I agree so much Mina. I also parent this way. My ex-husband finally listened to me and saw the way I was interacting with our child and decided to change a bit. He told me he finally understand my approach and it wasn’t just “mommy being softer”. My son respects me and listens to me more even if he may vocally question a bit more than just blind compliance. My son has just finished 5th grade and got the highest score on their end of year testing out of the entire 5th grade class in multiple areas. Abraham Hicks said it best “Words don’t teach, life teaches”. Thanks again Mina for your wisdom.

As a parent you Birth an higher level of consciousness , guide what you know , and encouraged them to seek what you don’t know…and show support if they fail .

I totally resonate with this! In college I had a REALLY BAD recital on stage. I had underestimated the amount of practice time I needed to have a good performance. It was terrible - made a complete fool of myself on stage. 😱 I promised myself I'd never perform like that again. Years later when I was performing duets with a friend who'd get really nervous right before performing, she asked me "what's your secret? How do you have so much confidence on stage?" I told her after having one bad recital that's all I needed to get my sh*t together!

I like the back off approach. Only stepping in when necessary for instruction works beautifully. Forcing often leads the undesirable outcome you attempted to prevent in the first place!

Wow... great approach. My younger son & I are constantly in a battle. He is so strong-willed & independent. Because of this he hates to be told what to do & will resist direction. I will change my method of parenting and shift my energy. Claiming a lifestyle of freedom & luxury a queen & unbothered. Thank you Mina!

I am a huge believer in natural consequences. When my son was younger I used it a lot ( after reading shivalis book) my husband on the other hand Is a controller. He thinks I am a lazy parent. I don’t know how to reconcile our different parenting skills. Thank you for showing me my parenting skills are ok. Not great but I do have a good relationship with my son

Be glad and grateful that you can live and learn from your mistakes (if you want to call them that) now. It's a process that never ends for everyone. That's life. You live and you learn. Perhaps their parenting provided you with an example framework of how you don't want to raise your own kids (if you have them or decide to have them). So you can learn from your parents' mistakes, too.

First by taking accountability for your own actions and don't blame your parents. As you would have resented them if they raised you without structure. What you need to understand is that you now have perspective they didn't.

I had a long distance relationship. He was planning to come overseas to visit me. 3 times! Cancelled. I said goodbye as natural concequences. Did i do wrong? He is well stablished provider. But busy man.

Can you talk more about natural consequences in marriage? Like what if your husband won’t help with house chores and responsibilities?

Ok so we begin by identifying the problem. Right now you think the problem is that Hubby won’t help. But the root cause issue is: Too many chores and you need help. Possible solutions. ✨Force Husband to help even if he doesn’t want to. ✨Declutter house so we have less to clean. ✨Find new streamlined ways to cleaning, cooking, chores. Etc. ✨Hire help. These other things may actually result in him helping because you no longer see him as a problem instead of the actual problem.

@@Theuniverseguru so the first option seems like I would be trying to force a consequence or punish him. However, I have tried making him help. He just doesn't. The other three options are not possible. We don't have a lot of things to clean, I just do everything by myself so it's overwhelming, I streamline as much as possible but my husband works construction so he's always bringing dust into the house that has to be cleaned, and we can't afford to hire help. I feel stuck. Would a natural consequence here be to stop doing his laundry since he is not contributing? However that could also be construed as punishment but truly I want to take at least one thing off my plate.
