I went out and found some speakers that work great with my CRT Broadcasting Video Monitor or BVM for short. If you need a good set these are the ones for you. Thanks for the view, don't forget to like the video and subscribe to the channel.

I’m not convinced that speakers on flatscreen TVs have ever reached the quality of speakers that were in CRTTVs. It’s very hard to make a decent speaker into something 1” deep. Nobody needed a sound bar on a CRT.

At one point i had magnetically shielded sony speakers, BIC america subwoofer and Sony receiver all from goodwill. Bought em from different times and locations and total it was all under 70 dollars. Used em for my set up for a while until i needed space when i got my kv-27fs120 and the srs mode on that tv is just sounds good n punchy

Nice, so what did you use to shield them?
@cesar6479
@cesar6479 2 года назад
@@JoeRetroWorld oh they were already magnetically shielded, i just kept the speakers further away (like 3 feet on each side) from the crt in case there could any distortion since they were pretty big three-way speakers

@@JoeRetroWorld no problem and if anything you can look up old speakers (either from sony, jvc or any quality brand from the 80s, 90s and 2000s) on offerup or Facebook market place and there will be speakers out there that will be cheap and have been shielded. And the info should be listed on the same sticker that has the model number as "magnetically shielded". If you ever do come across any listings of those speakers that may look like from those decades. Ask them to post a picture of the sticker or atleast the model number so you can do a little bit of research to see if its shielded or not 👍🏽

You have some of the finest gaming CRTs I’ve seen! How many CRT tvs do you currently have and what is your “champion” set?
@JoeRetroWorld
@JoeRetroWorld Год назад
Thank you, I have 8 sets now. The 2 you see in this video and a Toshiba MW20FN1 that is a vcr/DVD combo set. Then a Panasonic VCR combo, 8" Sony Trinitron, 9" Samsung dvd combo then a 8" RCA VCR combo . Last on the list is my Dell E773c crt monitor for use with my Dreamcast. It took 3 years of searching to find them, some where just luck like this Toshiba 36a43 beast that was in the trash. So what kinds do you have?
@RetrofIex
@RetrofIex Год назад
@@JoeRetroWorld I currently have 8, which is my limit due to space. I have two in my office for all my consoles, a 31” Sanyo DS31520 from 2003 and a high end 27” Philips ( component and Svideo) from 2004. I have 6 backup tvs which are a 27” trinitron, a 27” Panasonic, a 13” woodgrain GE from 1991, a 20” Panasonic from 1990, a funai made Emerson 20”, a 19” philips.

The most ive ever paid for a CRT ever is $25. Almost all have been free or maybe $5-$10. I am a firm believer that the only time you want to invest big $$ in a CRT is if its a fine tuned BVM or PVM. Otherwise offerup, curbs, and garage sales will yield many nice sets for next to nothing
@JoeRetroWorld
@JoeRetroWorld Год назад
@Matthew Sisk that is so true. Paid 400 usd for my Ikegami TM20-90RH that is like new but my regular crt sets. I paid $5-20 and that's it. There are way to many for free on offerup and Facebook, yes more people are looking for them so you have to act fast. I am done looking for more, these are all I need unless a new in box lands at my feet, lol.

i'am having the same speakers close to a crt, do you have any news i'am affraid to damage my crt tv from 1979 but your video made me a little happy ? are thoses speakers shielded to not cause any issue ?
@JoeRetroWorld
@JoeRetroWorld Год назад
They have to be 1" from the tube to effect it, I have them in front of the big Toshiba and to the side of the monitor with no issues. I use the speakers all the time, I am using them now to view a movie on an old cell phone. Now the only issue I have is the bass is loud so now matter the source. It will sound like you are in the movie theater even at low volume. Super clean audio with a kick. Since this video was posted, many viewers from Facebook, Reddit, and Instagram have reported they use them with no issues themselves.

I've bought 14' CRT tv for retro PSX games however its only mono speaker is 'farting'/distorting. So I connected 10-15 years old 2+1 speakers and I don't feel the full retro experience but it's still better than listening to distortion everytime when the sound is loud :D

So, how far is far enough away to place an UN-shielded speaker by your CRT tv? Given the effects aren't noticeable sometimes, how do I know if I'm in the clear or not? If I don't notice any discoloration effects when placing it about 16 inches away from the CRT, would that be safe? Thanks and I appreciate the insightful video!
@JoeRetroWorld
@JoeRetroWorld 11 месяцев назад
I move the speakers closer to the tv slowly. Once I see discoloration from the magnetic field. I move the speakers double the distance away. So if the speakers discolor the television at 5 inches away. They will need to be at least 10 inches away to be perfectly safe.
@necronomitom

A lot of the old manuals for unshielded subwoofers recommend keeping it 18 inches away.

@@necronomitom ok thanks. Reason I ask is I have a large floorstanding Klipsch speaker right next to my crt. Even though I don’t see discoloration when the tv is on, I want to ensure it’s still a safe distance away because I’m 95% sure the speaker is unshielded

@@JoeRetroWorld thank you. The issue though is that I don’t see discoloration. But I’m almost positive my large speaker is unshielded. And I watched a retro rgb video recently where he mentioned magnetic field effects aren’t always visible

Hi, is it safe to put the subwoofer next to the crt ?
@JoeRetroWorld
@JoeRetroWorld Год назад
No, it has a hugh magnet that will break your crt tv or monitor. The wires are about 5 feet long so you will be able to place the sub woofer down next to it or behind the tv stand in a safe far away location. I hope this helps you.

When using headphone, i have the feeling those old games aren't meant to be play with headphone, it's too loud !!! It's sound more natural with speakers now...Probably and pretty sure that playing snes or psone with headphone wasn't possible in 90s, anyway...So I guess speakers are the normal way to play, tho i still need want to play with headphone correctly.
