It's my favorite scene from Revenge of the Sith, when Khorne and the other Gods tells the Great Horned Rat that he may now be a member of the Chaos Pantheon, but they do not grant him the rank of Chaos God.
Doug is top tier guest and an asset to the sigmar community. Glad youre both so positive about spearhead it boosts my confidence in what's coming and my local woll be running a spearhead tourney on launch day
Cant wait for the 2025 GHB that says "instead of getting a manifestation lore for free, you can choose a manifestation lore instead of a spell or prayer lore". Give Tzeentch theirs for free as a battle trait and call it a day. Assuming you can still get multiple enhancements, this is how it should work from day 1, but GW needs everyone to buy up all the endless spells first before they fix it
Great show. GW have been releasing limited edition boxes that are two forces of around three units and one new hero sculpt for years now. I wouldn't be shocked if they're rethemed as Spearhead expansions with a board, cards, terrain sprue etc.
Spearhead using easy rules, less than half a dozen warscrolls, not too many miniatures and a small board means that you can kinda treat it like a board game. Invite friends who don't own any AoS minis but are generally interested to play the game to come to you and play with your Spearheads on your table. If you own 4+ spearheads, you can run two parallel games and make a little mini tournament at home. When the format was announced, I checked for my 8 armies and I already had 3 Spearheads (SLV, FS, SoB) ready to go. Currently assembling the last minis for a 4th one (StD). Gotta buy and assemble 10 more skeletons and I would have a 5th (SBGL). And then said mini tournament would be ready to go.
In AoS 3, Yndrasta is a 3+/4++ So in AoS 4, she will actually be less tough than she is now However, she will be far far more capable in combat and with a profile and abilities that better reflect the "Huntress of Heaven" title
Plus she can pop Finest Hour to make her deadlier and tougher which is pretty scary. Nvm what all the new Ruination/Relictor priests will be able to buff her with
17:15 So the way it works is you use the Deploy Regiment ability. And that tells you to keep using Deploy abilities until the regiment is done. The Celestial Realm is a deploy ability so when you're given the opportunity you can use it instead of the Deploy Unit ability. It's a little wonky at first but it's super clear once you put all the pieces in the same place to see how it works
A neat thing someone noticed about Krondys’ Roar is that it should also shut down the command ability for the Gnawhole summon since it uses a command point. I love that idea that the roar echoed through the wormhole and scared the Skaven back down it. xD Otherwise way love our boi Krondys’ rules and hope Karazai is just Crit City on all his different attacks. 💥 Lastly, I agree we’ll probably see some Eshin units and a Eshin formation pop up in the battletome, I just hope some more Skryre goodies like exo-suits are among that wave. 🤞 🤖
What I found to be pretty interesting over this weeks first faction focus articles: all Spearhead armies got a new paintjob. Meaning: they are not just re-using stuff from their shelves in the studio, but did completely fresh forces. 40K did not get this treatment. I appreciate it.
Knight Arcarnum is also never gonna be a 5" move, as she'll be on the d Dias Arcarnum Spell hoverboarding everywhere, so that null zones gonna be able to go where you need it
So, any info on how the Spearhead system will be sold, if you aren’t planning on buying Skaventide? I get it that the Spearhead battle scrolls will be available online, but what about the boards, terrain pieces and battle tactics and twist cards?
Maybe Eshin are waiting in the wings for a 2nd wave when we go to the Realm of Shadows? Or perhaps they will get gutter runners in warcry (like Chamelion Skinks), and the battle formation will be in the book but not the initial index? It is an odd one.
Since placing a Gnawhole happens at the beginning of the BATTLEROUND and using it happens in your turn, maybe Skaven will like to go first, so that the opponent cannot destroy the things before they can be used... interesting.
In a game without sideboarding, I hope they don't lean into making units too niche or role defined. If Yndrasta is paying a lot for her anti-monster stuff, she's gonna be bad if there are no monsters on the other side of the table.
Thank you for the show. I'm excited for spearhead and wonder if it would be a good ground for campaigns like path to glory. Also, love when Doug is on the show!
Had a good look at the launch box, and it is probably the best one yet, but decided I am not buying it. I am just not excited for the models or AoS 4 and at the price point there are other things I am excited to paint and game which are competing favourably. I will see what the experience with downloads and options that are available outside the box. Spearhead might be the option I engage with, or my break from AoS may continue. I think the launch box not being a starter is a downside here, if I look to pick up later. It seems silly though to try force interest
Spearhead sure sounds great! My hobby ADHD will for sure be satiated. Accidentally I already have enough minis built for LRL to play in Spearhead, even though I only play IJ at the moment :D I wonder if IJ has their own Spearhead, I am not a fan of KBZ. Can't wait for 4th ed!
Especially since it’s actually the lead picture for the “Armored Dragons” tv tropes wiki. I think it’s just a mounted big monster basis in general they wanted them all at 4+
Do you know if a units control score is capped at 1 or 0? With abilities that take away your score can you end up just unable to capture objectives? Like the squig herd is max 1 but ghost lady subtracts 3 from the score.
Any indication of what’s happening with Ironjawz and spearhead? If the orruks get split out into their own faction again then only kruelboyz have a box at the minute.
As long as they continue to release more board/card- packs for variety in the future as well as add even more Spearhead rules for sub-factions like Darkoath I can see this being a continous success.
The rumours were that Gutter Runners are gone but night runners weren't on the list. Deathmasters and Verminlord Deceiver also weren't on the list. Therefore Eshin is still a thing but perhaps they just decided that there won't be enough units on the table to make a battle formation worth it. Hopefully they come in a second wave with new units.
Do you think that you could double the size of Spearhead and have it work? We both use 2 spearheads each (not duplicated, but in same faction) double the board size place terrain and objectives in the proper spots? Either treat it as spearhead doubles or you just doubled the size of the game? Same deck size or double the deck? Or would you just then move on to building a 2k army? Your thoughts…
Do weapon options matter for spearhead? I've never played AOS before, and im wondering if i should glue the pointy arms or the choppy arms on my Gutrippaz.
Weapon options don't really matter for AoS writ large, its whatever. :) - in this case, they have always said just build what's on the front of the box.
GW clearly had more investment in Spearhead vs Combat Patrol. I think thats largely due to GW trying to get more traction with AoS 4th ed. I believe CP was just the test model for SH, even going as far back as 9th ed 40k where I believe we would have gotten that game mode had it not been for Covid and GW's massive scheduling delays, just my conspiracy. I also stopped with Dawnbringers after book 4, I just didnt care for it with 4th edition so close to being announced. Ill probably pick up the books anyways as Tom pointed out for collection purposes. If anything this narrative has given me two fantastic discount boxes and 2 amazing mounted characters in Belthanos and Abraxia. The Belthanos box was literally everything I need more of and I dont own a single model in the StD box so definitely getting that one.
I'm looking forward to all your takes over the next month or so to the new edition. I am looking forward to adding more stormcast with the dominion & dragons I have in my collection to be added to. Also look forward to more stuff shown off when the battle tombes come out. Really pleased for you vince hopefully a lot more new skaven to come finally after all this time 😊
I am glad that you both liked Spearhead, my plan is to try to get people in the club to try it with me and then run an event later in the year. My interest in full AoS is somewhat dead until the Spearhead way of tactics and twists is easy to implement in there. Hopefully multiplayer rules aren’t far off.
What I find ironic is that Skaven are supposed to be treacherous and cowardly, but the rules never reflect this. Also the Skaven tech is supposed to be wild and unsafe...but it's only when it's at it's most powerful and then only really rarely...So not really wild at all.
Plenty of cowardly flavored rules. Retreat for free. In 3rd heros could retreat out of combat instead of attacking and the army had some of the worst bravery in the game. Warp lighting cannons would often blow themselves up in one overcharged shooting phase. Wizards all had chances to blow themselves up.
I think they hit the right mix of fun, playability and theme. You are incentivized to use the overcharges and hence you always kill yourself and make it dangerous. I've foudn it very on theme.
I probably won't be casting endless spells because they're expensive models that are rarely in stock and are hard to proxy due to not being on real bases for the most part
I am really struggling to like AoS 4, in fact I don't like any of the info given so far, including your info on Spearhead. When I heard AoS 4 was gonna be a total reset edition, I were hopeful, but alas, it seems AoS 4 the same pos game AoS 3 were, sadly.
@@VinceVenturella Something simple akin to 2nd edition and not a bloated game with battle tactics, battle traits, battle formations, manifestations, commands, army terrain, seasonal rules, and god know what else is coming. Its too much. I get bored reading all the different rules for all the various useless stuff. Spearhead was my last hope, but after listening to your experience, I think I’m gonna pass. Sorry😟
I have a question! Haven't been a part of this hobby for very long. The stuff we're currently being shown are from the Faction Packs right? So does this mean we're not getting battletomes? I don't follow 40K but are they not getting the battletome equivalents even though they started with indexes? Is it possible that what we're seeing from the Faction Packs isn't going to reflect what the factions will be like when the faction specific battletomes release? So we're effectively seeing 3rd edition tomes being brought forward to 4th edition but balanced quickly?
@@VinceVenturella So things can change even more in the future with the actual battletomes? No real reason to be concerned with anything in the faction packs, just fun to see how they're making 3rd work in 4th. 🙂
@@VinceVenturella Here again. Their reasoning is based on the coloration of AOA, that it is red thus only meant to be used in combat phase. Seems strange to me but I can see the argument
Great show, guys. Spearhead is the thing im most excited about in 4th. I already have two friends who have picked up spearhead boxes as their first ever AoS purchase to try it out. I think I’ve asked you this before, but now that you’ve played it, what do you think of the possibility for multiplayer or team game modes down the road for spearhead on a bigger map? I’d love to see something like T&T using spearhead boxes in a future book.
