I actually really love the Wraithmarked edition of Sword of Kaigen. They're both beautiful, but I love the simplicity of the physical book itself with the traditional Japanese design. I do want to walk into the scene on the Page and Wick edition though. The Litjoy Crate editions of The Folk of the Air Trilogy are absolutely stunning! 🤩

I literally finished The Sword of Kaigen yesterday night/ this morning. And while I had seen the Wraithmarked cover and LOVE it I'd never seen the Wick one. Watching the video (and also familiarity bias) I was thinking the dueling scene cover was better but then I saw the inside cover art and the naked hardcover quote of the Page and Wick one and changed my mind. Tonally I think the Wick edition seems to fit better with the end of the book.

SEs are primarily about paper quality for me. I'm spoilt by the Folio Society so it's rare that any other non-custom publishing house (like Centipede Press) will get my attention. The exceptions are the Harper Collins Illustrated Tolkein hardbacks. Gorgeous art, paper.

Yes to more videos like this and yes to Strange the Dreamer! I love to collect special editions. I have the Owlcrate set of Strange the Dreamer. From the ones you showed, I have Page and Wick Sword of Kaigen, Fairyloot Bridge Kingdom and Fairyloot Bonesmith. You can pre-order Fairyloot Ghostsmith right now if you haven't done so. I think I will get the new Iron Editions of Folk of the Air, the problem is, I have the Stolen Heir Duology from Illumicrate because I preferred those more. And trying to get the matching Stolen Heir from Fairyloot secondhand is expensive right now lol. But the art work on the sleeves and hardcovers of the iron editions are so stunning! 😅

I actually got a copy for one of the stolen heir books second hand fairly cheap because the interior of the book was printed upside down. But hey, I thought it gave it more charm, so I was excited about it (and the lower price point 😂). Hope you’re able to find a copy too!

I read The Sword of Kaigen before purchasing either special edition. I own both the Page & Wick and the Wraithmarked edition. I prefer the Wraithmarked version, but I am a sucker for silver, so that may have skewed my opinion a bit. I love the new Red Rising series covers by Fairyloot (which I own), I also love those sprayed edges, but I think I prefer the original covers of the Fairyloot editions. I listened to the Red Rising series before purchasing the special editions.

You need to check out the Polish edition of Sword of Kaigen (Miecz Kaigenu). It is also stunning and marvelous. The graphics on the cover were created by Dominik Broniek. He is known as the author of the European editions of Sanderson's books.

My favs: Folk of the Air, have read, definitely LitJoy Crate edition. Bonesmith, haven't read, FairyLoot. The Sword of Kaigen, haven't read, def. Wraithmarked. Bridge Kingdom, have read, def. FairyLoot. Red Rising trilogy, have read, hands down the FL Iron Editions! 🤩 This is a cool video idea, I would definitely watch the Strange the Dreamer editions video! 😄👏🏻

I have the Bookish Box edition of Bone Smith and I LOVE it. The naked hardback is actually my favorite part about it, and I display it that way without the dust jacket. I think that edition has so much more character between the unique stenciled edges, gorgeous dust jacket and naked hardback, overall just such a stunner. Haven't read it yet, but soon! Definitely for spooky season. I hope they do the sequel as a special edition also!

Really love the editing in this video! Those transitions are smooth. It's a pleasant surprise since i don't see this kind of editing in your channel often. Just noting that I got confused which edition is the naked cover, inverted cover, etc for since they get mixed around with the other edition being compared with. It doesn't help that they don't remain in the same side in the layout, like example the fairyloot ed would be in the right side and the other edition in the left side in the first clip, and then theyll switch in the next clip. Just pointing it out since the purpose of the video is to compare editions. Also would love more in depth comments along with the cool shots. I reckon those books aint cheap so vids like this are super helpful when making a decision whether they are worth the price.

I dunno, I really dislike dust jackets. I know when you order "standard" printings of hardbacks, you're getting the dust jacket. Not stopping me from buying first printings of new stuff. But in a special edition? Make the book look good naked plz. You're just gonna take it off when you read it.

Omg, I would love to see Strange the Dreamer! I had the original US hardcovers, but I was always disappointed by the color choice for the second book so I wanted to replace it with the paperbacks. But then OwlCrate did a version that I fell in love with and had to get. I'm still kind of eyeing the paperbacks, though, lol

For 'Sword of Kaigen' I prefer the Page and Wick Cover. It's bigger and more colorful and prettier. For 'Bonesmith' I prefer Fairyloot Edition. For 'Folk of the Air' I like the Litjoy Crate more. For 'The Bridge Kingdom' I like the Fairyloot Edition more. And for the 'Red Rising' I think the Fairy loot i prefer just a little bit but not sure. And I haven't read any of these books.

I don't buy special editions. I'm used to fold my books, write on them ... love my books so much I can't hold my hands off xD but special editions seem too precious...and I can't just look at them 😭

Yeah... they're beautiful, but usually I already own the book, and I'm not buying a second just because it's pretty lmao. But sometimes I'll get one if it happens to be a book I read at the library years ago and will reread. I like the mass market paperbacks because they're easy to hold while reading, and cheap so I don't feel bad folding a page lol.

I love the ones with nice illustrations of the main character. Also, the ones with a beautiful hardcover under the dust jacket. I've become so used to them being plain AF. It's nice to see. Still dont like sprayed page edges 😅 give me proper gold/silver gilded edges any day! but they are eye-catching at least.

Edges out only really confuses me, and only when there's no obvious reason. Pretty sprayed/stenciled edges being displayed is obvious. I even kinda understand "too many of the spines of my books are creased and it bugs me." I don't get the for the uniform aesthetic. Even if they're all "white" they're a whole bunch of different shades of white and the book edges still show.

The reason for the purple on Golden Son is because purple is the colour of royalty: A 'gold' is essentially royalty in the Red Rising trilogy.

I love dust jackets. I personally won't buy a hardcover without a dust jacket. I could care less about the naked hardback. I also hate paperback books.
