To mark 40 years since the 1981 Ashes, one of the greatest Test series ever played, Lord Ian Botham, who bestrode the encounter with bat and ball, dove deep into his reminiscences of the contest that changed English cricket with Wisden Cricket Monthly editor-in-chief Phil Walker.
Starting from the ill-fated West Indies tour which preceded the series, Botham recalls the lows of the death of much-loved tour manager Ken Barrington, his own departure from the captaincy, as well as recalling his magnificent performances at Headingley, Edgbaston and Old Trafford, with the great all-rounder Player of the Match in each game England won.
They also discuss Botham's life after cricket. He has since launched his own wine company, Botham's Wines, with whom this video is produced in association.

This is such a great interview. The interviewer is excellent because he knows both the game and his history. Really enjoyed this 👍

Great all-rounder. One of the very best all-rounder who has won matches for England by bowling or batting or both single handedly.

Ian Botham is a famous player in cricket. The Ashes is a big series. I know cricket is popular in Australia, England, India and Pakistan. I think cricket should grow. I think that Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Cornwall, Brittany, and the Isle of Man should copy the West Indies and have a composite international side. A Celtic Nations International side would cover a region of 20 million people and could grow cricket. A Celtic Nations side could play teams like Australia, India, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand, and England.

Also remember Geoff boycott 45 in that second innings and stick around for a long time he was brilliant in that second innings that never seems to get mentioned
@anthonydent5798
@anthonydent5798 Год назад
Probably because when Boycott was out England needed over 100 to make Australia bat again with only 4 wickets left. Boycott's contribution was of little importance

Boycott was out at 133 for 6. He really wasn't "brilliant" that day.

Come now make new memories England. Instead of reliving flashes in the pan events. Shows how pathetic England have been. Ask Australia to relive good Ashes moments and they’ll be like which one!
