7:00 the air force used to have the "SKYHOOK" system to recover people. A guy would wear a harness attached to a rope. The rope would have a balloon inflated on the other end and an airplane would fly at the line and catch it and it'd yank the guy up into the air. Definitely should find a video on it. 👍🏻

In the Marines in '74 I began my love for these beasts. My first experience was a 53 that took us to Wild Horse Canyon in the Philippines. It took us to the top of a mountain canyon side so I could practice calling in airstrikes for a couple of weeks. We couldn't land because of excessive winds so this chopper held steady a couple feet off the ground while we bailed out the side. After that I caught a ride in one every chance I got.

Germany is buying 60 of the Chinooks because it won their competition for heavy lift. Even though the basic design is from 1961 the Chinook has had massive upgrades from engines to digital software interfaces to armor to weapons. The US has plans for it to be around to 2060, a full century of service!

Love watching you guys react! One thing they didn't show is the Special Forces version of the CH-47 can actually land on the water. I've seen many videos of them landing and SEALs or SF drive a boat right up in the back of it. I got to fly in these a few times in my career in Afghanistan and on training missions here in the states and they truly are BEASTs!

I went to dinner two weeks ago with a girl in the Navy who looks more like a hippie than someone in the military. She had a huge tattoo of a bumblebee on her stomach and several more elsewhere. But her job is pretty serious...babysitting the nuclear reactor that powers an aircraft carrier. I asked her if it ever made her nervous and she just chuckled. She said people take in more radiation from the sun every time they fly than she ever will on board the ship.

In Iraq we had Chinooks. Terrifying. When your sitting in it, you can feel your ass spin with the blades, and when it lands it launches flares, which is terrifying if you weren't told. It's a terrifying bastard to behold.

When I was working in construction, my job brought me to many military bases and defense contractors. One of those was the Boeing Defense, Space, and Security's Chinook plant in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. I worked on the heliport there and was able to see brand new Chinooks taking off, flying, and landing on their first test flights. It was quite an experience and one amazing helicopter.

I think you'd be interested in hearing his story of amazing heroism and why soldiers refer to each other as "brothers". You would never, ever expect anyone to survive what he did for his "brother".

On my last deployment...during a mission...one guy got left behind after finishing up 😂😂😂😂. They do head counts when you get off the helicopter and when you get back on....somehow the new guy was pulling security but missed the radio call to go back to the helicopter...And there was a misscount and he got left. They had to turn around and go back for him. Luckily he wasn't in any danger and got back safe. I laughed and couldn't believe he got left behind. I got on the radio and was like, "ummm...you're one guy short...he is still pulling security and hasn't noticed he is alone" 😂😂

The first thing they tell you when you get in a military helicopter (as a troop being transported) is to point your rifle muzzle down. In the case of some idiot having a negligent discharge, they prefer the bullet going down to the floor than up where the engines and rotors are.

Is the "Merlin" special to the navy or coasties never herd of it looks like a modified Blackhawk
@sadiekincaid5310
@sadiekincaid5310 Год назад
@XxGoFkYrselfxX the US Navy's version of the Blackhawk is called the Seahawk. The US Navy and the US Coast Guard both use the Seahawk which is a modified version of the Blackhawk. The Merlin is a bigger helicopter than the Blackhawk/ Seahawk is. The Merlin is most likely used by the US Army or the US Marines.
