Just when I thought that RU-vid was going to suck today, one of the best content creators popped up a 40 minute video. This is officially the first video that I’m gonna watch this year.
i used to see that thing rolling around monroe ny all the time growing up in the 90s/00s. it actually dug the footings for the back deck on my house back in 94. was owned by bilt-well fence co in monroe ny.
You Vice Grip and Junkyard Diggs are my go to channels! Great job. You have everything in that small garage. I hope you get a bigger shop. Can't wait for your next road trip. Just wait until spring been a lot of crazy weather lately.
1968 worked a summer job at a fence company in Phoenix AZ. They asked me to nibble the ends of steel pipe sections not being sure what they were for. As I watched a Guy Named John Smith (really) started assembling them into a square contraption and said it was a post hole digger for mounting on the back of a jeep. A few days later as the digger was being finished a rail car pulls up hauling a brand new CJ5. We did all the PTO assembly and jeep modes then mounted the digger to the back. when completed it was towed out to a large open area in the NE between Phoenix and Scottsdale. They had 5 miles of post holes to dig and did it in the afternoon. It was a great experience for this young guy.
My dad had a 76 CJ5 with a dealer installed Ramsey winch that ran off the pto. I remember running through the gears to run the winch. Cool setup, tons of pulling power
Now easily one of my favorite channels. Boats. Jet Skis. 4-Wheelers. Jeeps. Classic cars. Tow trucks, military vehicles... I mean... you just never know what the heck you might see on here. Happy New Year Chris, Jen, Turbo and to the Gus-Man as well!! You guys are so much fun - just awesome People! My kind of Americans for sure!
That is definitely the most unique vehicle I have ever seen in my life and I do bodywork for a living…33yrs. I’ve seen some unique vehicles. That thing is crazy lol😄👍
Couple months ago a buddy & I drove almost 5hrs to get a truck we get there guy sold it after I gave him a deposit then he had to run to the bank which took an hour cause he was eating breakfast told me I had to wait wasn't a great situation. Pretty cool jeep NNKH ur content is top notch always 👌
The New Year’s Eve fog in the tristate area shows what a quick turnaround you managed on this. Your industriousness in getting content out is only matched by the great energy and handiness that you bring to the work. Chris you made 2022 better for all of us. Hope ‘23 continues great for you and your crew.
I bought a brand new 1985 CJ7 right after high school. It literally started rusting within 2 years. Biggest hunk of garbage ever. That said, I love them. I currently have a 1969 CJ5 that I restored from the ground up. Now currently looking for the right CJ7. Keep them both!!
Chris, my grandfather hired (ha, ha) my older sibling, my cousin, and one of our neighbors to put up a dividing fence in the pasture next to our home. We used post hole diggers, shovels, a jig digger, and a wooden mallet to dig the holes for the fence posts. After we had made good progress, we ran into solidly packed clay and rock. Granddaddy contacted a man nearby who had a tractor with a drill rig similar to the one on your CJ. After drilling several holes, he broke the drill bit on his rig. That was the end of that! Happy New Year to you, Jen, Gus-man, and Turbo da cat!
Man, having dug many many holes with a 2 man gas auger, I would say keep it intact. Great to see a vid from you on New Years Day. All the best in 2023 for you and Jenn.
HI CHRIS AND JEN , WOW!!! MY SON AND I ARE HAVING A GREAT TIME WATCHING THIS VIDEO .. WE HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY THING LIKE THIS ON A JEEP ,, INTERESTING!!! WE CANT WAIT TO SEE MORE OF HOW YOU DO YOUR MAGIC ON THIS JEEP.. WE ARE GLAD YOU STILL HAVE THE TOW TRUCK AND THE RED FORD GRAN. THE JEEP IS GREAT LIKE IT IS IT'S TOGETHER ,,... GO DIG FOR GOLD ,, . THANK'S WE ENJOYED THE VIDEO!!!!!!
Hey, my family lived in Ewing which brought me to your channel. Over holidays when we go back to NJ we play, "Did someone fart or is that NJ." Northern Jersey of course. Love the channel!
I worked with a guy that had a 1988 Jeep Comanche truck with the 4.2 I-6 motor back in the late 1990's and his motor had the same exact knocking noise.
Looks very similar to the jeep my company used many years ago, I never personally seen it in use. Sent a text to my boss he said it sure looks like it. We're out of upstate NY. Bilt well fence
Found out that it is indeed one of our old fence jeeps, we had two of them. The guy you bought it from is a coworkers brother who took both the jeeps years ago. We might even still have the doors for it somewhere.
The thing I love about your channel is I never know what you're going to get next..lol Wishing both you and Jen (including Gus and Turbo) a happy and healthy New Year! 🎉🥂
seems like you've got the right idea. sell the auger equipment and keep that jeep for the trails. you might have to go through that 4.2L but you could just do a quick, ultra cheap, 'rebuild' on it. just think of the fun camping trips you & Jen could take. plus, there are always huge jeep groups around that go on fun outings to different OHV parks and what not. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I second this! As you can see in my profile pic, I also have an 80s CJ7! Would love to see you fix some of the notorious problems on this thing so I can see how to make these repairs as well. Then we can go jeepin! Sad to see the older Jeep go but I think it’s for the best to focus on this newer one :)
Love your videos! Thanks for quality content. Be careful with antifreeze around Gus. Even him walking thru it then licking his paws could cause serious problems for the little man.
Since you are asking, I vote you sell the auger setup and get back the money you spent on the Jeep. Then keep the Jeep for all the running around stuff Jeeps are good for. But you do you Chris. Love watching you tinker.
Chris, I'm sure I speak for all of us in giving our thanks to you for your "no nonsense", 100% real down to earth content we can all relate to. Best to Jen and yourself (and pets) for 2023! 💯😎
Hi Chris, i would say to get rid of the digging stuff and restore the Jeep to go on 4wdriving adventures that will ad content to your channel. Great job and hope you have a great 2023! Regards from Australia.
Love you channel and your accent 👍. I'm Neil from Cheshire England and watch you,Jen and guss all the time. Can we see more of Jen on the channel please 🙏👍
Been loving the channel so far, very informative and organized. Would love to see a shop tour, organizational tour, or tool tour; if you already have a video that shows some of that please let me know. Could be interesting to see what kind of specialty tools you have.
Even with the possibility of scrapping the M38, you won't pull a WhistlinDiesel and deliberately destroy it- you know it doesn't deserve that. Cheers to a new year!
pretty sure nobody cares but iv got a son and we have become ships in the night which hurts ,3 months ago whilst i was watching Chris and Jen work together i thought about starting a project ,long story short ive got a father son project happening and im over the moon ,just need a lil dog now ,thankyou for the inspiration
Great video! On a side note, putting a pressure relief valve on the auger down circuit and adjusting the pressure just slightly less than what is needed to lift the jeep would help keeping it out of, "self distrust mode" Keep the videos coming.
Jeepin’, hell yeah!!😀 Decisions, decisions…. Good deal on the old Jeep for sure. I’d hate to see the newer Jeep and the auger split up, kind of a set, never seen that combo. But, gotta do what ya gotta do. Happy New Year to you n’ Jen n’ Gus n’ Turbo!!! Thanks for all the great videos, keep on keepin’ on!! Cheers 🍻
Happy New Year Chris and company ! I have been enjoying your channel for about 6 months and always look forward to the new content. I feel like part of the family with you showing some of your life with Jen and four-legged kids. Good stuff brother !
Love your content, thanks for what you do! That CJ is begging for a rear bumper with homemade outriggers and a tie-in to the drill mount. Might take a ton of stress off of the chassis, and make the drilling a bit more efficient!
Two things about the flat towing with the Dana 300, you need to every couple of hours stop and let the jeep idle, the upper transfer case bearing will burnout, Warn used to make rear locking hubs to fix this situation. Make sure your towing bar is tight from side to side, years ago I towed a jeep that had slop side to side, I saw my life pass before my eyes going down a hill.
For the GoPro camera on the head, I’d actually recommend turning the auto stabilization down and the angle up because the head usually is waaay more steady than the hand. As for being on a car I’d recommend auto stabilization because it’s a solid mount that vibrates with the motor and suspension. But I really do like the view, it creates a whole other aspect to videos.
I think you run a very clean and honest you tube channel! I like the fact that you bring us along and make us part of the group/family! Love Gus he's the best! Thank you for what you do! Love it! Happy New Year!
So glad you posted man. Gave me something to watch this morning. My opinion would be to sell the drill, maybe for a bit more than $600 but as long as you can make it financially work, someone will make something cool out of it.
That chain is for when the motor mounts just aren't enough, my dad.had some on his 460 big block Ford hi boy, both sides of the motor. I have done it before and I have ratchet straped my trans brace in
Awesome CJ7 my cousin had one growing up and we used it to hunt the farm in South Georgia..it could go anywhere..best trail rig you could own..us parts are everywhere C&C equipment in Indiana have all sorts of jeep stuff..just a fyi. Wishing you continued success in the new year both in your business and channel growth.😁🥳🇺🇸🔧😇🎉
I know this jeep!!! That road got it's name because of those RR Twin arches. Cool to see that you were up here in my area man. There are a lot of vehicle gems in this area bro!!!!! KEEP THE JEEP!!!!!!!!
Keep the Jeep intact. There are a million CJ5s and CJ7s out there if you want to make a trail rig. But this things is too cool to break up. Especially since it still works.
Chris that jeep is awesome.. me personally living in ranching country were there is tons of fence to repair, put in, fix.. you could hire someone rent him and it out, and in less then a year triple your money some TLC on the jeep and wow what a machine.... a money making machine. Here we move roads so there is always state and government contracts,. and then the blizzards where snow is pushed so far back and posts and fence is ripped out... and when all snow is gone they need to be put back in....then private ranch contracts OMG you couldn't sit down all summer fall if you had that thing here. So if your looking to sell it??? concentrate on North south Dakota's, Wyoming, Montana, even Nebraska. If i am thinking right put that up on a auction where farmers ranchers get together and i bet you you would have a bidding war. Sad thing is so many ranchers here and farmers do not have You tube nor face book they have other priorities to think about to waste their time on social media platforms. sure some will but 90% will not. But that is an awesome machine.. again i would keep it!. and fencing contracts are so lucrative !!. Happy New Year Buddy! wishing you Jen, Gus the best !
I saw some Lucas Oil Stabilizer on the shelf. That can be used in place of gear oil in Diffs and Transfers. Oh well. I'd say keep the Jeep as is. It's unique and should stay that way. I'm sure you could find another Jeep trail rider.
When I was a young guy I worked at an equipment rental yard where the owner got side jobs drilling post holes with an old auger on the back of a WWII Jeep. My job was to sit on the top of the auger where my added weight actually made it three point seven six more times efficient :)
I do ranch fences here in Texas. Not a bad setup just have to watch and make sure you don't put too much pressure on it as you are drilling. I was thinking you might be using it for that property you were looking at. Thanks for all your hard work and wishing you and Jen the best for 2023.
You'd be surprised where buried utilities run. I work as a splicer for the Company Formerly Known as Bell of Pennsylvania and my primary job is locating and marking all of our buried and underground copper and fiber facilities. Sometimes they run through the middle of nowhere.
$600 for the post hole digger apparatus is a good deal. If you kept it and could mount it on the back of your tow truck as a slide in unit. Then you'd have the best of both worlds. We have a bobcat backhoe attachment and we have a truck set up as a truckHO. It takes about 20 minutes to attach it unattached it. You can do a lot quicker but something of that weight and size best be careful with. Quick release on the hydraulic lines and a quick disconnect on the input shaft. Then we could use the truck for a truck . If you're going to use it on your Jeep you definitely would be a good idea to put outriggers at each of the four corners of the Jeep so it doesn't work it so hard. Of course I think you got the best idea if you're not using the post hole digger and you want to use the cheap has a trail Jeep sounds like a perfect plan. Especially after you go through the engine in my opinion. Hydraulic operations always seem to work a lower end of an engine. If you built it as a tow behind unit would be interesting how you counteract the stress with the lack of weight. It would definitely be something I would watch each episode. Thanks for making the episode is quite interesting and different. Bouncing around as you called it adds variety!
Get rid of the post hole digger. Get a fiberglass top and doors. It's your perfect vehicle for tow home and medium duty off-road fun rig! Soooooo easy to work on and everything is available and that motor is solid as a rock. Well worth it to keep around
Out here in Southern California, they use those Jeep rigs with a forklift setup on back, to drive around in the Avocado Groves and list up the large bins of gathered fruit and take down the hill. I think it would be cool if you keep it, if you don't have too much money tied up in it. I had that 4.2 L straight six in my AMC Eagle hooked up to a 5-speed.
Best to do to with the ignition if not already done is the nutter bypass or just delete the electronic control ignition and install Gm hei distributor . They run much better .
