I've just put a Ground Control T5 on the rear of my full sus for summer on the strength of this review. I didn't feel comfortable putting one up front so I went for a T7 Purgatory. After 45 miles I'm sold. Ridulously fast, far more grip than I'd have expected and a large weigh saving over my Minions. I'm not sure how they'd cope in the wet, but I'd guess a T7 Ground Control would do better than the T5. Oh and they run completely true. I'm sick of the 50/50 chance of a defective casing with Maxxis!
Hi Ben! I'm really happy that this helped you decide to give them a try. I have only used the T7 GCs but have wondered about the T5. The Purg T7 looks awesome and I may give it a go on the front, but I'm so happy with the GC T7s front and rear that it's hard to try something else.
@@ThunderStruckMTB I think if you don't ride in the wet and don't need the extra sidewall protection, the T5 is worth a shot. The rubber doesn't feel that hard to me, so it'd be interesting to see how the rolling resistance and grip is between the two compounds.
Hi Miguel! I'm glad my video helped you decide and I'm betting you'll love them. They should be perfect for Downieville! Let me know how you like them and how you finish..... FULL GAS!
Hi Colin. I do about 1.5 miles on the road every ride and have 17 rides on them (327 miles), so that's about 26 miles on the road. I have not seen the Vees before, so thanks for the info!
Hey there Vicious! The construction will be the same but there is less rubber on the sidewall (that's what makes a black sidewall tire black) so while it may be a little lighter it may also have a little less sidewall support and cut resistance. I have never used the tan wall version so I can't say if you will notice any difference either way.
Good info, I ride hardpack, roots, rocks, very little pavement, I found my lap times go down at first with new Specialized Viet Nam made tires over the older versions, but once those little nubs (tits) on top of the knobs wore off, it was amazing how the lap times went down, even faster rolling then the older version, I've tried the Renegade S-Works T5/T7 Renegade in the rear, they are FAST, light, but don't last near as long as the Fast Trax, I ride on the S-Works Fast Trax's front, and rear, just over 600 grams per tire, light, fast, super fast, they hook up, I think they make them from Octopi.. the new T compounds, with the GRID are amazing once the little tits wear off, Happy Trails..
Hey there Don, sorry for the late reply as I never got a notification of your comment. Awesome info! Spesh tires are so underrated and people just don't know what they're missing!
Hey Calma! Yes, they work. I had them installed on my DT Swiss XMC 1501 carbon wheelset which is a hookless rim and they worked flawless. I hope this helped!
