Nea Wells sorry I just saw my alerts on this. I had kinda of an interesting journey to my career. I did undergrad and grad school for Soci and you really should have a “focus” or “concentration” of a topic you really are interested in and use your Soci methods to learn more about it. For me, I have always been interested in disabilities research and long story short that has landed in me in a healthcare quality role. Healthcare in general is VAST with a lot of opportunities, but Healthcare Quality and Data Management are of the biggest and most needed. You can find things with a bachelors, but if you’re able to get grants/scholarships to pay for it then I’d recommend doing grad school as well. Best of luck!

If you know you want to be a social worker, I'd say to try and find a school that offers a major in Social work and then advance to a Masters in Social work. If your school choices don't have social work, then go for sociology. Most sociology programs will have a plethora of courses that will prepare you to embark on your journey. Classes to consider taking are Family Violence and Domestic Violence Prevention (if your school offers similar courses). In general, most sociology classes will allow you to dive into these topics so i'd say sociology is your best option. If you love psychology, you can always minor in that as well :) hope that helps! (Also a tip, look for internships in the career field you're looking for while in college to gain experience and see if thats the path you want to pursue after graduating!)

Which majors are useless without graduate school? Sociology Psychology Anthropology Geology Oceanography Astronomy Just to name a few, ok? Select a program that is in demand after graduation. Otherwise you will be in my situation at 57 years old and working at a dead-end job surviving check to check. Understand?

from my experience, it's heavily based on applicable and transferrable experience/ skills more than the degree. I'm not sure when your expected graduation date is but I would recommend looking at the job descriptions/ qualifications of the jobs you're looking to aim for post grad! It gives you an idea of what they are looking for specifically and an opportunity to add to resume if you don't meet some key requirements. I hope that helps!

Hello! No, it wouldn’t be. Sociology is a field in Social Sciences but Social Science is not specifically only sociology. Social Science would encompass a study in most major social science areas of study such as: sociology, psychology, anthropology, criminal justice, and many others! Depending on your specific program, a social science major can include classes in all of these topics as it is a more broad major. Again, it depends on how your school has the major requirements set up. I hope that helps :)

Hello! Depending on where you live, in order to be a social worker you need your social work license which may require you to obtain a masters degree in Social Work!

I'm not too sure how a masters in nutritional science works in terms of pre-recs. However, if you truly want to major in sociology, just make sure you check the pre-recs for your masters to ensure you take the classes needed for that! For example, my cousin is also majoring in Sociology and will be pursuing his Physician Assistant degree after. He took his science pre-recs that his masters program requires while majoring in sociology. It may be a little extra work since sociology doesn't require any hard science classes (eg: chemistry, physics, etc) but it is definitely doable :) I hope that helps!

I'm not too sure how international job applications might work but i'd say to call or email the company you are interested in applying to and see if there are any specific things you need to submit in order to apply since you're international. don't let it stop you from applying though!

Nope! In most cases, you only need your A-G requirements to apply for a university. I believe included in that is Algebra 2. I would highly recommend talking with a high school guidance counselor to double check because its been almost 7 years since i've applied to an undergrad university and i'm not 100% sure if the requirements have changed! But if they haven't, that would be the highest math you would need in high school and thats for any undergrad university and not specific to the major. Once you're working on your application, you can decide what your major is. And then once you've been admitted, your university and program will let you know what math courses and research courses will be required to take based on your chosen major.

If you are coming from high school straight to a university, you would need to ensure you complete the A-G classes before applying to a university. Once you apply, you can pick whatever major you choose at that time. There are no pre-requisites to apply for a psychology major. If you are transferring from another college or university then you would need to check with the school you are transferring to and make sure you've met their transfer pre-recs for that major. It truly just depends on the school you're applying to. I hope this helps!

I used Indeed.com to search for these jobs and you're able to pick the city or providence you want to search for. If any of these titles, I recommend searching those specific titles in whichever providence you're wanting to live in.

i'm not too sure how applying works but you'd have to apply as an international student and see which schools offer the type of major you're looking for. I believe you'll also have to take the TOFL but i'm not 100% sure! I'd recommend checking the schools websites and see how the application process is for international students. Sorry if this wasn't much help :/

Sorry to hear that! although I can see where your frustration is coming from, this can and might happen with ANY major chosen. I hope you're able to find a job that allows you to use the set of skills you learned while in school! A degree is more of what skills you learned and how you applied them, not just the material alone.

How about when your professors are hiding reality from you and lying by omission about the truth?

Don’t forget starting small jobs like a front desk at a doctor office first to get some health experience and skills that you can always get in school.

@Maxey I would. I graduated summa cum Laude at my college in 2014(ASU). I got a job quick at CPS (Child protective services) I was not emotionally suited for that job, had no promotion opportunities (government nepotism), and it emotionally wrecked me. I looked for other jobs and just could not live on the pay. I loved the subject and that is why i did academically well but it didnt help professionally really. I went to trade school and became a welder. I am so much happier now. When I was working at CPS I often had dark thoughts and was majorly depressed. I gained a ton of weight and now I am on medication for related issues because of the weight gain. If I could do it all over again I would not have even gone to college because I didnt not know what I specifically wanted to do. I noticed that being a constant among my peers. Im not saying this to discourage but i hate to see anyhone in the kind of misery I was in. Still paying off loans as well.

my best advice for anyone struggling with majors particularly this one, is have a plan. I didn't. I was just hopefully. In the end, it didnt pay off for me. dont pick a major just because its interesting unless you are going to school for personal fulfillment only. What I didn't realize is college is a major investment and you need a plan at the end to earn that money back.
