Spectacular A-10 Live Fire Action in the Desert 

This was the machine that made me understand what military aircraft really are. They're not "planes" or "aircraft", exactly. I have 2 years toward an aerospace engineering degree, so I thought I knew what aircraft were, but for combat aircraft, I was wrong. In the military, an "aircraft" is a weapons delivery system that happens to fly. This bird, more than any other, reveals that fact. It's a massive gun that has been made to fly, with a small perch for a pilot to control the festivities. With low wings and powerful engines mounted in the rear, it's the aerial equivalent of a Porsche 911. Cool, cool stuff, in my opinion.

Love this aircraft. Got to see this from the business end a couple of years ago. Fishing a lake in Arizona with a flotilla of about 25 boats. These guys came out of nowhere and made repeated passes on us. I realized they were practicing runs with our boats as targets. Just glad they weren't carrying live ammo! Still, one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Made my day.

A most terrifying flying machine.

That is one hell of a sexy airplane. I can't even imagine what terror the bad guys must feel when an A10 swoops in like a ghost and you realize you have no time to run. And then the plane banks a hard right and comes around for another pass. I can't imagine why anyone would want to replace something this exceptional airframe.

How can the Pentagon possibly be stupid enough to retire this machine? Totally reliable, hideously lethal, almost impossible to bring down, and relatively cheap to buy and maintain.

Am I the only one that the a10 is beautiful and scary

I have seen the A-10 in action over here in Belgium on the Nato shooting range Sonisheide. The gatling is very impressive. always visual impact first followed by the "fart"!

when I was about 8, I had a collection of toy war planes. the A-10 was my favorite.

It is a sad thing that I have but one "Like" to give for this video. Because after the music kicked in I wanted to "Like" it 10 MILLION more times. The plane is awesome, no doubt about it. Would own a fleet! But that song is fantastic!!

My dad flew with the 104th FW from 80-97 and before he joined ANG he flew F-105s out of Tahkli with the 355thFW stationed out of Moody AFB...retired in 97’...Great Video

Back in 2003, we had 2 A-10's fly over our apartment complex, in Platte County, Norther West Kansas City, Missouri, never knew why, but they were low enough to see the pilots, what a thrill that was.

I was stationed at Edwards AFB from May 1972-September1974, and was present for the A-9A & A-10 fly-off competition, the YF-16 & YF-17 fly-off, and the development testing of the F-15A (was actually there, on the ramp, outside Transient Alert, for the C-5A delivery of the wingless F-15A prototype). As a Transient Alert team member, I used to pull Last Chance end-of-runway inspection on all the prototypes, after the initial stages of the test programs (when Last Chance was part of contractor end-of-runway operations) continued.I am crazy stunned when I look back on how lucky I was to have been part of this aviation history, watching these planes fly against each other in the skies over Edwards, and getting to climb underneath them, inspecting them prior to takeoff. I will never forget the first time we watched the prototype A-10, out on the gun range, firing the 30mm cannon, with a brrrrrrrrpt!, brrrrrrrrpt! Awesome! And, if you do the math, that was about 46 years ago, AND THIS PLANE IS STILL FLYING! It's no surprise pilots love it! I fly the simulator version, and will forever hold it close to my heart that I got to play some ridiculously minor role in watching this plane come to life. I've still got two of the original 30mm casings, from one of the two prototypes, and I once had a blue 30mm dummy round, which somebody relieved me of years ago... God bless the men who put this weapon of war together, to save the lives of those men advancing on the enemy combatants. God bless the USA! God bless those that have fought to keep this plane in the skies, since it can take a (HUGE) licking, and keep right on ticking!

just think these angels of the battlefield are assisting our troops and I am thankful that we have the technology to use these aircrafts and also the fact that one of these saved my brothers but numerous times

Jet fire sounds terrifying, and that's why I love it.

Stupid air force thinks the F35 can replace this beast in the close support role. The F-35 couldn't do half the stuff the A-10 does in ground support.

What a badass jet. To bad they aren't making new ones, and the government is thinking about retiring them soon. I honestly don't think there is any other jet that looks as cool as these.

It is slow, ugly as shit, and technologically sub par. But it is a combat proven air frame that can operate from forward areas effectively, execute mission requirements efficiently, survive massive damage, and return the pilot to the ground in one piece. Why the fuck would the Air Force ground this bird?

I had a pair of them flying at just above tree top level following the terrain break the mountain peak behind my house while I was fishing in the pond and you could hear them coming just not real loud. Sadly the shut down the A-10 fighter wing about 45 miles from me and upset the hell out of a lot of people. Using it for drone work...

The A10 thunderbolt was turned into A10 Warthog in the late 2000s but. The Warthog is a bad ass plane in my eyes

Thankfully the A-10's retirement has been blocked. Can you imagine replacing that magnificent jet with the F-35?

It's no wonder that A-10s were credited with over 900 tank kills in the first Gulf war. It would be a shame for this platform to be retired in the name of cost savings given how lethal it has proven to be.

I find it hard to understand why they want to retire this plane. People harp on about the reliability, the survivability and the weapon load, but the greatest fear to ever enter the hearts of any 'terrorist' is the fact that the gun sounds like the best wet fart in human history. Bet you can't beat that, mr F35.
