I remember watching this back in the 70’s on Wide World of Sports. It looked a lot different back then…no helmets, different skis and probably a lot shorter distances.
Taking a crash off the water ski jump at 100 feet/30.5 m I know is not fun. So when I watched Jaret Llewellyn crashed at over 200 feet/ 61 m it made my stomach queasy. But that is the thing with this sport and everyone that goes over a jump has not always landed on their skis.
igoski1 I had a spiral fracture in my left femur when I was practicing the jump event the year I made Boys 2 and I never got on jump skis again. I just stuck with slalom skiing. It worked out well for me, I ended up getting 3rd at nationals, 1st at regionals and set an AWSA SCR slalom ski record (it has since been shattered but I can say in 1997 I held a record)
@@aemondtargaryen972 That is so cool to be able to say you set a skiing record. At the age of 12 years old I too set a skiing record. It was for speed skiing at 77.586 mph. It only stood for a year but I was the fastest kid on a water ski for a little while.
