Yup. Sounds about right. But I visualize myself constantly using it and having so much fun. Edit: I bought it and use it all the time. You can use a lot of reverb, which I really would never normally use, but you can play with it because the gift of this pedal besides the ridiculous hi-fi tones, is that doesn’t get in the way of your playing. Also, if you record anything besides guitar, this is the pedal you want for vocals, drums or synths. My favorite are the effect on vocals and drums. It completely transforms vocals but also drum sounds as well.
I love that Dan said "...these reverbs go one step beyond", and without missing a beat, Mick hums the first few notes of the Madness classic! These moments are so ephemeral, yet so fun.
The Blackhole: Those pads! The size! The depth! I'm dying.... The NighSky: The excitement! The energy! I'm flying... The CMX: The access! The quality of the sound (its like its really happening in the room)! The PRICE! I'm crying...
Spot on about these sorts of reverbs being transformative instruments in and of themselves. When I was trracking our first ep with my group we were lacking a synth/piano player at the time. I grabbed a big sky, no instructions, found a texture I like, cranked extreme setting and had a go. Ended up with what sounded more like a synth and orchestra than anything guitar related. You really just have to let go and let them do their thing. I sat with the guitar on my lap for most of it with a glass slide. Once you break out of that headspace the possibilities are endless and this isn't even for ambient music necessarily but just sonic soundscapes you could not achieve otherwise
I echo (appropriately) everyone saying you should play with 2 guitars together more. Not only are the jams wonderful, but it really demonstrates the points you make about sitting in a mix, or having a part with an effect for texture, or comparing frequencies. More, please!
Very good chemistry between the two of you. Always a good listen and a watch. You both give each other plenty of space to talk AND listen. More please!
Check out Pauline Oliveros and Stuart Dempster for their recordings in the Dan Harpole Cistern Chapel, a 2 mil gallon underground cistern that has 45-sec reverb time.
i cannot stress enough the huge smile that swept my face when listening to yall in the intro. please continue to do more of this! love your synergy and energy. also i will say that les paul tone melted my face off on the first notes. simply brilliant !
Loved seeing Mick play the gold top LP. The sound suits him and he always sounds good playing them. And on topic, I can't live without reverb. It and a boost are the only effects I can't live without.
Oddly enough, I was chatting with a buddy of mine that I needed a reverb pedal as the delay I was using to get "close" wasn't quite what I wanted. Way more than what I would use normally.... normally. I think I just want to have the Blackhole so I can say that I turned off the gravity.
Its great to see how far you guys have come, and its been great fun watching the show's progress over the years. I hope to show never ends though, because then ill have to start learning how things work myself...!!
@@jamiebarr9810 Yum! Maybe your comment just spawned a new genre of music with people singing about 🥓 bacon 🥓 with ping pong delays and thick reverb. If they brought in a B3 organ it would be Hammond Bacon!
When I got The Eventide Space it sounded like I was in a huge cinematic production like Star Wars, Kuebrick, or Spielberg movies. The stereo field was swallowed by the black hole for sure. Unbelievable but I decided to ditch it for the Big Sky which is a great multi purpose studio reverb too. The Night Sky is wild but it will not replace your main reverb.
I've never gone to Andertons faster. In four years of weekly obsessive watching and rewatching of your shows, learning as I go, I didn't even wait til half way. You were about a minute into the Nightsky, Dan, and programming that infinite loop with arpeggio. Honestly never pressed the big red danger button as quickly. Unchuffing believable. Massive respect to Strymon - I've been playing with programmable effects in DAW for years but it's never felt right. The way you both responded to the output coming from that thing was enough - that's what I've been missing. Awesome. Truly awesome. 🙌🏻 for TPS as always. Yas!
Just wanted to say I love you guys and your show. It's hard to explain the "simple" stuff while getting some depth and making it entertaining and interesting. Thanks for doing it
Whole show I was saying to myself, please don't let the Chase Bliss be amazing, I'll never afford it. One note into the demo.. I could probably live on rice...
Rice and a little bit of fish or chicken for protein and you’ll be just fine! Most bodybuilders prepping for shows eat measured cups of rice and a protein so you could get into amazing shape and own the best reverb unit lol btw I bought one myself. It was not easy to spend all that money but it’s one of the only pedals I’ve ever bought that I wasn’t back and forth on or considered selling for something new or different. I sold a few pedals and bought it. Not as hard as most make it seem if you have enough pedals you’re willing to part with.
Such an epic intro ! I should have known I would love the tones from the great playing and ridiculous reverbs. At this point, I’m going to want so many reverb and delay pedals, my pedalboard will sound like I’ve launched a space shuttle into the next galaxy.
That 'hall' algorithm on the CXM is possibly (probably) the best hall-type reverb I have ever heard. I am lucky enough to own some amazing reverb pedals and an Axe FX III. The best reverbs I have used, up to now, have been from plugins. This pedal looks very well thought-out with a perfect feauture set IMO. My £50 Valhalla Room plugin will probably get me close enough for the sake of an £850 saving, but this is the best reverb I have heard in a pedal. Wow.
I just bought a JHS 3 Series reverb, and I tell you what, for the price it's simply phenomenal. It's only mono, but the tails are so clean and there is a lot of variation within a very simple design.
Dan, I let Dani (Marbin) know about you wanting him on the show. He had me send him the timestamp in the video and seemed thrilled about the idea. I was a bit late sending him the message because of heading to work, but I do think he's keen on the idea, based on his messages. So I'm sure you two can work out something after this pandemic mess is sorted out. I'm not affiliated with him or his band, just a fan. Dani reminds me so much of a cousin of mine. They look a lot alike and both play guitar. If I told Dani I know he'd joke and say something like, "He's a very handsome guy then." Lol. Don't know if he contacted you yet, just letting you know I contacted him about your idea. Stephen
I get so much inspiration from your videos that help me with creativity. I actually purchased a Roland Jazz chorus and a strymon nightsky because of your videos. Thanks so much. Great show you guys!
In respect to the strymon doing a lot of crazy sounds and in search for inspiration, here’s something you may or maybe not aware of - The H9 (which has The Blackhole) has a feature in the control software called Random. This is an incredible thing and works on every single algorithm. 👍🏻
@@RaxFx Why would it be a paperweight? It's a pedal. It sounded great great when they came out, it still sounds great now. Just because there's nothing new coming out doesn't mean it's a paperweight. Strymon pedals don't get new or updated algorithms and I don't see anyone complaining.
@@JELIFISH19 you've hit the nail on the head right there with that comment. I mostly buy used gear. I think we've hit a point a few tears ago when we were presented with an infinite number of fx and recording/playback devices, that sound amazing, noise free, high definition. The creators of this tech are constantly turning out new gear. People buy it up and lasts years model seems old hat. It was awesome then and still is, a lot of tech these days have so many functions that many barely get used. We just move on to the next shiny knob box.
Omg, the end of show jam. Made me smile and also so beautiful, teary. And... You two have such nice personality styles and a supreme interaction style. My GF will watch just bc she finds you two so endearing. That's a win! TX, you two, as always.
Terrific show. That plate reverb tone you were getting out of the Chase Bliss at 44:35-ish was insane. And then Mick going full "inspiration machine" with it at 49:00... so fun to watch. Cheers guys. Stay safe. Play lots.
What fantastic playing in the intro! Brilliant reverbs with space for days! Top video as always fellas. Stereo into headphones is insane! “It’s going straight to the poolroom” - most aspiring guitarists dreaming of the tomatoverb
Yet again I'm late to an episode but THIS has to be one of the most musical, mind-boggling, fabulously stimulating, informative and inspiring shows you guys have ever put out. I may never be able to afford the necessary 'dinero' for any of these but man alive am I going to be experimenting with all those pedals I do have. Thank you Dan & Mick, love all that you do for opening my mind and ears (despite the hearing aids...).
Fantastic show! One of my favourites so far. You guys must play together more often. The pedals were inspiring but not nearly as much as seeing you both create and get lost in soundscapes together. Loved it!!!
I want a sign language interpreter on the show!!! So i don't have to listen and feed my 🤟🤟🤟 *REVERB GAS* 🤟🤟🤟 Thank god i can't afford one right now because i'm getting the real deal, a tube reverb 😁 Thank you boiz for some relaxing time. Stay safe and healthy.
Dan for sure, and even Mick had that inspired playing thing that happened when they played the CXM... pretty cool to watch it transform them instantly!
Thanks Emmet. I think the massive amounts of gain and reverb/delay help. Unfortunately I don’t need to do much hunting. I just need about 8 grand. Gulp.
