Greg Weisman and the writers of this series really understood the essence of Spider-Man, I find. There's so many little moments like that in this series that really work for me. It's the same essence they really nail at the end of the Lizard arc, where he nearly gives it all up because life is SO hard only to realize that he saved Connors, and got Billy his Dad back. The whole "Spidey stays because Spidey is needed" is such a core aspect of the character, and I love that this series was able to nail that down three episodes in.

While I would agree that I would much prefer Spectacular Spider-Man to come back, we also have to face the harsh reality that it is much much easier for the 90s Animated Spider-Man series to come back as opposed to Spectacular, unless we ever find ourselves in a world where Sony decided to relinquish full rights to Spider-Man tv media to Marvel/Disney

6:42 I disagree. I get Gwen is frustrated that Peter has failed to communicate with her. Although SHE’S the one who unintentionally confused him so she shouldn’t expect him to figure it all out by himself. She should try to at least try to talk to him herself, not guilt trip him. When I was a kid, I was so mad Peter missed Gwen by a few seconds. Now, having watched several times over the years, I much prefer Peter and Liz. I can’t blame Liz - she made her move and did it right. She explained how she felt then kissed him; she didn’t kiss him and run off.

She’s not blameless and should’ve tried to communicate with Peter obviously, but Liz is intentionally putting herself between them and Gwen is just trying to protect herself, she sees Peter actively not showing interest in her pretty often You can’t really fault Gwen for simply not having the same confidence to go for something like Liz did, especially when Peter is the king of mixed signals

I like how they build the tension with Gwen because Peter is very immature when it comes to romance and his feelings. Deep down he loves Gwen but a pretty face is all it takes to distract him. I also like Gwen not playing the second choice just because she has feelings for him. And MJ is pretty much a counsellor.

When Peter McNicol speaks he sounds intellectual and he is my second favorite actor who voiced Otto Octavious with the first being the late Efrem Zimbalist Jr., who voiced him in the 90s Spiderman: TAS. Darren Norris my god is just great as Jameson mixing it up between Asner and Simmons.

Akshually!☝️🤓 Doc Ock was indeed the Master Planner in the Stan & Ditko Era. Who you might be confusing him with is the character Crime Master, a separate underrated Spidey Foe. Another little detail other than Cletus is Morris Bench who is the slippery Hydro Man. Coy might be interested to know that the two cops we keep seeing in the show are named Jean DeWolff and Stan Carter. I’d look up who Stan is Coy! It might blow your mind!

I noticed that Ock and Electro have their own leitmotifs as well. The fights in Shear Strength have music that is only played in their introductory episodes. Ock’s being a “remix” of sorts.

Not them being excited for Hydro-Man and Carnage later only for neither of them to appear again in the entire series. 😂😂 Also, *(SPOILERS)* for this season: My favourite villain of this season (and the entire series) is none other than Doctor Octopus, aka. The Master Planner, himself. The *_ONLY_* villain in the entire series to not only almost take over the city, but the entire *_WORLD._* In terms of the scale of planning and threat, none matched The Master Planner, Doc Ock. Green Goblin and Tombstone are close runners-up for my favourite villain in this series, though.

It’s too bad we didn’t get Hydro Man or Carnage this season. They were planned for Season 3 I believe but the show was unfortunately cancelled before we could get there… I feel it’s best to just say that now so you guys don’t get disappointed they never showed up by the end of the season.
