I believe that's a technical limitation of the battery packs/clips used to power the weapons. The mounted weapons work at long range because they're plugged into much bigger external power sources (or they jerry rig one like at 4:29)
That's the issue with all energy weapons, the inverse square law is a bitch. It's why despite having lasers for decades we are only just bringing them in for counter drone and point defence, power and focusing issues over range make them impractical over range
Then why not just using the mounted ones? They have tons of helicopters and robots, so why not relying on the heavy stuff, instead of sending troops forward? Stupid writing. @@All_Mighty672
Extremely underrated sci-fi movie, and one of my favorites. This is a semi-lowbudget sci-fi action and it has WAY better CGI than the trainwreck Justice League.
@@Brother-Martell no, again, it really isnt. Its how much Joker cost, and in the top 800 budgets for every film ever made. Movies are VERY expensive to make, but people forget you can make seriously great films with a much lower budget than 70 MILLION
To be honest Spectral is a supremely underrated movie in my opinion. The movie was really good, hell it is better than a large sum of the actions that are created today. Plus they decided to make a awesome villains and the tank scene and final fight was awesome.
No it was SiFi war movie 2068 all the way to the end. The mighty American Army was out matched and about to fall (notice the enemy was reconstituting into larger agglomerations of their substance) if they hadn't gotten in and decoupled the energizers to the wraith lab ending all of those who had gotten the surgery to die.
One of my favourite recent films. One thing I liked was you can see the scientist / engineer working it out. You see him watching things, seeing what works, come up with ideas and adapt as he gets more info. No one was an idiot in the film or a stereotype, they all behaved in line with what they knew at the time.
@@theonefrancis696 Maybe he just had a LOT of coffee? :D I'm willing to give that a pass, you do see other characters working on things, so in my head, he built the originals and had people do simpler bits.
Film looks like absolute garbage, but it’s somehow reassuring that no matter how objectively awful something is there on a planet of 8 billion people there will always be at least one person who thinks it’s not only good, but actually just misunderstood genius.
@@Marchochias 🤣Aww, *pats your head* it actually thinks it's people. Just goes to prove the old saying about empty vessels sounding the loudest etc. People are allowed to think different things you know, now go play and know your crowning achievement was my being bored enough while sending the kids to the pool to reply. Silly 🤣
This movie is truly a hidden gem from 2016, and it remains underrated to this day. The special effects are outstanding, the costumes are wonderful, and the weaponry is amazing. It's a prime example of how alien movies should be made, filled with great action and more.
I think they’re wearing them because the bad guys cause everything around them to rapidly freeze. For those that don’t know, it fucking hurts to breathe air colder than -55 Fahrenheit. At those temperatures you start needing to wear something that warms the air before you breathe it in.
This movie kept me hooked for a change compared to all the generic bad guy villain hero movies. It felt special because the enemy was mysterious and of unknown origin upto the end. This made them even more terrifying as I couldn't really predict how it was going to end. The movie felt bleak, hopeless and almost non existent humor which gave the feeling of seriousness to the situation they are up against. If you loved spectral then you will enjoy- Final Fantasy Spirits within.
I really liked Final Fantasy Spirits Within. It was way ahead of its time!! I think it was too much of a great story and that made it too heady for most of the audience that saw it. It was from when the early 2010's. Too big a concept for most westerners seeing it.
@@ericlevine8970 I think one of the problems with Final Fantasy: Spirits Within was that it didn't tie into any of the Final Fantasy games like FF7,8 , etc which some people expected because of the Final Fantasy name. That said, I loved Spirits Within and would love to see it re-released or rebooted. It definitely deserved a much better reception than it actually got.
How I like the "boston dynamics"-robots in this scene. They really feel like something we will see as infantry support in a not so distant future. Not at all scary as long as you are on the right team =)
I've already seen I think it was LAPD SWAT using a BostonD Dog! They used it to approach a barricaded suspect and then used the claw to pick up his gun and drag it away and all. It was surreal. A couple more iterations and I think we'll definitely be seeing them more widespread. Even just to carry soldier's gear.
@@GeorgeThoughts so far theres only a couple concerns, specificly how it moves in water, mountains, and swamps, deserts(etc), as it seems to only move well in urban enviornments not blown to hell. which would limit their usefulness in the field.
I stumbled upon this a few years ago by accident. I'd seen no advertising for it what so ever & I've watched it at least 8 times already. Bloody outstanding movie & I really hope they make a second...
We don't need no stinking sequels. I'm all sequel-ed out. Many great movies are so, because they have no sequel or equal. It's the producers that want sequels, because they are all about the money, and not the art of film. This film is a work of art. I would not cheapen it by making bad photocopies of it.
Awesome CGI, tight script, competent scientist, no supernatural bs but scientific process to solve the mystery. One of the least known gems of recent sci-fi.
This movie was outstanding in every way. There should be a second part with THIS QUALITY on the fights. This is a true sci fi movie done right. We need more scenes like this in Spectral 2. A tactical war on the last fight simply outstanding. We NEED more movies like this.
3:00 imagine the pain she feels. You can't. She might've been as young as 16, to be captured, experimented on, having your mind ripped out of your body and put into something that's not even the same. She might have been able to feel it all, but having no control over it. And the worst of all, to lose two of your limbs to something hotter than fire and die slowly. Condensate forms are freezing, does she feel the cold? Is she still conscious? And worst of all, they can't kill themselves, because until now, there's nothing that could harm them.
Agreed. The engineer says something like they are in pain when he sees the life sign monitors. Maybe they were seeking out the heat of things that are alive, a need to balance out the cold, even if it is in vain for them.
I love that they took what could have been a generic scifi ghost villain and made it a complex and nuanced well developed sympathetic enemy. Everyone involved in this movie REALLY outdid themselves.
Such an underrated film. Good action and battle scenes, likeable characters. A novel enemy and some good "science" moments. Also any film that has the balls to kill as kid (as most shy away from it) is a bold film because many sugar coat the reality of battle.
Couldn't have said it any better. I remember thinking it was going to be cheesey, but the sci-fi geek in me had to try. Now it's one of the first films I recommend to any war or sci-fi junkie.
movie was nice and intense, i only wish they showed that us and local combined forces cooperate for the last assault. at the very least the local highly trained military forces were good enough to deploy whole delta platoon to fight them. and they did not have any moment to show their skills
I mean, the local forces were the regime the US was there to take down, and the ghosts were either kidnapped individuals by the regime, or the regime soldiers itself. In either case, they wouldn’t team with the US
I do love the standard Hollywood tactic of running towards the enemy like you're weilding a short sword until you get close enough to start shooting haphazardly with no coordination or organization. But overall seems pretty neat. The idea of scifi vs ghosts is very fun
It's still the 2nd movie I watched having zero expectations ended up being thrilled and amazed by the stuff they've managed to put on in the story and cinematography,, District 9 was the first 🙂🔥🔥❤️
Let the people of the whole earth join hands and sing songs, and peace to the whole world, and tears only for joy, and birds build nests near the house.
I love this movie. I've watched it 300+ times on Netflix, and because of that, it never gets discontinued. It looks like I'm going to watch it again tonight when I get home.
Just done watching this. This is so good. No overacting sht. No seksual sht. Haven't seen anything like this. Their gears are cool. The weaponized bose-einstein condensate is terrifying. It seems possible in reality. I dunno.
quite an awesome and creative film! Though I can't help but giggle a little at the idea they built all these incredibly-advanced plasma weapons in a single night. Still both build-up charges and moments of firing those two shots were fantastic.
Lmfao so the guy just hooks a bunch of energy based weaponry together, somehow everything is compatible with enough ports for the task and all is rated/capable of handling the load, and it all works. Truly great script writing.
@@Yosser70 I stumbled across it on a SciFi movie review nearly two years after it was dumped on the ass end of streaming platforms and you had to search: name it for it to appear
This needs a sequel , these guys scientists and cameraman stopped an unimaginable armageddon. Great story and it punched with special effects and action kept it entertaining
COD needs to make a single player campaign of SPECTRAL!!! the effects in this movie would be amazing to see done in full UNREAL ENGINE 5. pls i hope someone makes it!!
I kinda miss back in the 2010s when we had all these cool hard sci fi movies with dope vfx and cgi. There's been a few in the 2020s so far but they just don't have the same gritty vibe to them
At the top you have SEALS, DELTA, JSOC, then even higher BlackOps and then at the VERY, VERY top these Mothereffers… you would need to be insane AND skilled to get into such a insane fight!!! 😂😂😂
Perfect use of both setbuilding and perfectly gritty CGI. And suprisingly scifi-esc, which is a rare gem for itself. It not even fall short on uplifting ideas of unity and bravery, with also delivering a propper anti-war message. 10/10. I'd be ashamed to be a bloated Marvel movie or something in a cinema taking place less than a hundred kilomteres away of where this is shown.
I don't know about anti-war in this context of a war film. 2068 - American Empire comes up against a new devastating weapon in Fascist Hungary. if they lose could change the face of Europe for the foreseeable future.
@@randallbesch2424 As anti-war messages have been ignored by generations of movie audiences. I'm always a bit alienated by modern movies/audiences seem to need the straight line in ther faces that war is bad. Aren't people able to read the situation and come to a conclusion? Anyway. War and political extremist brought the world a weapon too dangerous to be controled, and there is a lot of killing without any side making a difference or deaths having a meaning. Then these two very different groups ally as humans and fight back, even that very likely means ther sacrifice. Yeah, my takeaway is that war and extremism is kinda bad. I mean the americans could (and realistically had) just pulled back and said "fk it", and some people have just decided to strategically vacuum-bomb the area mile by mile - but that's stroytelling simplicity, focusing on everyone is just human and humans fight back on war itself. Maybe that has been too meta.
Some regime in conflict with the US tried to make a weapon out of exotic matter, a form of condensate, and managed to download minds into the system that controls it. However, the individuals in the system were, for all purposes, feral. The ongoing war damaged the facility, the specters broke out, and were slowly spreading through the city.
No ,a foreign power creates and fields a new type of weapon to halt the American Empire's hegemony as they see it. Not ghosts despite their spectral appearance more like super cold clouds under intelligent control. A very well thought out smart SF idea.
i really loved this movie! no only did i loved the action and the sci-fi science, it was the very first content i watched when i made an account back in 2016. im pretty annoyed that it's no longer is since that account was deleted by netflix. 10 months was really too short of a time period for inactivity purge.
Once you have known what your enemies really are and their weakness, you don't need to be blindly afraid of them. Your weakness doesn't exist outside you, but within you.
The suits are to protect the soldiers from the effects of the guns. Until the first shot, no one knows for sure what would happen when the trigger is pulled.
