Spectrum TV Choice: Full Review 

We only offer this to people who have internet with spectrum... that's one detail you forgot to mention.

Also and FYI... some of the channels will be greyed out, specially the local channels. You can't view those channels outside your home if you are not connected to your spectrum home network....

The lack of a DVR is most definitely the biggest con in the pros and cons list. Honestly, the whopping 15 channels you get to choose, for the price, is the only pro if you need something in that column. We went without cable for over 18 months, and adjusted to the loss of some favorite channels. The antenna we bought for $15, provided a decent channel lineup and we had no monthly bill to pay just to watch tv. Now, we've discovered that with this Choice plan, we're having to use some of our 15 choices for channels we used to get for free when we were without a cable provider. Overall, Choice is a good option at a very affordable rate.

Me and my wife were actually able to do this, but, we did their tv select package through it being as we originally had the main box, tv silver package etc. so we were able to switch to this through the Apple TV and I love it more through streaming rather than the traditional cable option, plus we have the cloud DVR for $9.99 and the only thing you can pause, rewind etc is your recorded shows.

so glad you mentioned the dvr functionality for live TV. That's never mentioned in any other review i've seen and SO glad you went there!!

Thanks, and I appreciated the info, however, for us, we left Spectrum TV, and we stream what we want and no fees! I am over paying for TV, but your video informative! The DVR is like 35.00, so you may as well keep the packages.😵‍💫

Is there a Streaming Box that has a simple use remote for an 85 year old? I only need him to use my Spectrum TV app but he can not use the Arrow and OK functions.

I use Spectrum wifi and firestick TV so I don't need cable because it charges you a ridiculous amount of money.

I did sign up for this service about a month ago. I tried to sign up online but that option was not available, I had to call. I am using a Samsung smart tv and a MacBook pro. My biggest complaint is that the picture quality is not stable and goes "fuzzy" a lot and locks up and or buffers constantly. My tv and computer are not that old. Still, it is cheap and allows me to watch TV on those occasions I want to watch it. So my feelings about it are mixed.

After 48 hours waiting and still no service, I canceled , its a great idea love the choice but poorly executed sign up procedures. Sorry spectrum close but still not there.

Thanks for posting this item. I recently bought a home in the Spectrum supported area and also have a Samsung SMART TV that also supports the Spectrum app. However after watching you video I'll add the ROKU to the spare tv and loose the desktop box.

Antenna reception in my area is difficult and I was never able to get a strong signal so when Spectrum came out with their streaming service I signed up. Last week I found out about their Choice service and switched to it. Got a cable card from them and am using my Tivo Bolt which has 4 tuners and allows me to do all the things I want (pause live tv, commercial skip, record series etc). There is one glitch that no one has been able to correct and I'm still working with Spectrum to correct. I am not able to get FXM movies on Tivo, which is one of the 10 options I selected. I am able to get it when I go on the app with Roku or my Samsung TV. Also with Choice I'm able to get all the Hallmark and Lifetime movies, which are part of the 10 optional channels. When I was on the streaming only service both Hallmark and Lifetime were part of "skinny" bundles that didn't include the movies, which my wife gave me hell for. Using my 4 tuner Tivo Bolt with the Spectrum TV Choice package allows me to have the programming we want without the big cost. I have the Tivo connected to the main TV and use a mini for our bedroom TV. I use the app on the other TV's in the house. Bottom line is the service is worth it. I have a super strong signal on all channels, (95%) plus. When I was on antenna only my signal strength ranged from 42% to 67% with intermittent pixilation. We all know how frustrating that can be, especially if it's on a recorded program. I also subscribe to their premium channel package for an additional $15 per month. This gives us HBo Go, Showtime Anytime, TMC, Starz and Starz Encore. These are streaming only require the app to receive.

just signed up for $21.99 per month. they say that the dvr service will be up by the end of the month (jan 2019). Sports channels i got: ESPN, ESPN2, NBC-SN, FS1, TNT (for NBA, NCAAB), TBS (for MLB, NCAAB) plus all the news channels and kids channels for my kid. Plus with Netflix and CBS all access, i don't need anymore programming. While i was talking to phone rep, my spectrum app worked instantly and i was able to watch while talking to the spectrum rep. as much as i hate TWC and spectrum, this was simple and easy for me.

Why don't they allow you to change your selected premium TV channels manually? they make you call the customer service every time just to change what you want?!

Dang. So many “hate” Spectrum. I haven’t had any problems so I can’t relate. Had immediate access, no technical problems, mostly got it for the walking dead and Vikings, but the “On Demand” area has some TV shows like Blacklist and some movies which is ok as icing on the cake. I’m thinking about trying Crave though. Seems like a lot more value.

We have Spectrum T.V. and Inernet. Our cable TV used to receive channel 613 which is CW-14. The view on our TV is all broken up into pixels. It wasn't like this before. Even the playoff football game of the Bengel's was interrupted ... This is not acceptable. Fix

They fixed the app works in media and also DVR you can start programs from the beginning.

Supposedly you lose any bundle discount you are currently receiving if you switch to choice from one of the other packages. That means Internet and phone both increase by $10. Probably not be a big deal since the price of TV alone goes down so much, but possibly something to consider. Also if you are getting some kind of promotional discount due to switching from a competitive service such as Dish or AT&T, you will lose that also.

Spectrum is my provider. I've had a RCA Roku with preinstalled 3400X (oldest version). I tried the app and didn't like the performance, buffering, so got rid of it. $21.99 for 2 yrs w/no contract now, pick 10 shows but No DVR functionality? I may look into a 7 day free trial to see if anything has improved. Thanks so much for what you do.

Spectrum is great for internet but they need to step up their game big time when it comes to tv. Their user interface reminds me of something in the early to mid 2000's.

All the negatives right below this are true but you don't necessarily need a DVR because contrary to what is implied in the video, the On Demand is your DVR. You get next day episodes of all your OTA type channels and within a few days to a week the latest episodes of your Cable Type channels. You can also get a low cost lifetime license to an app called PlayOn Desktop or Cloud (just Google it) that records automatically from On Demand automatically and includes the Spectrum app as well as many direct channels and keeps track of your credentials and allows playback with AdSkip and skip forward and back.

When I watch the weather channel I can no longer see the local forecast blah I got rid of my two boxes today and saved money.

This video is 3yrs old. I was wondering if there was any changes or upgrades that you kno about? Any DVR service?

Tried for several months. Dumped it. Service is horrible during Prime Time or High demand times, ie Sunday afternoon 1pm when you want to watch sports.

Still paying an arm and a leg with Spectrum ONLY because I want to watch my Lakers, Dodgers and Kings. I can only get that on Spectrum.. Occasionally I can catch a local game on TNT.

Use a windows media center pc with an ati digital wonder box. And rent a cable card and tuning adapter. $2 per month for DVR.

Starz doesn't include Starz Encore Westerns. I think you have to subscribe to that independently.

I have a question... I currently have AT&T TV now... The company used to be DirecTV now.... Since they have switched I haven't been able to get in contact... With no live chat operators and the numbers they provide is AT&T and they can't help me with that app at all other than bill.... Not to mention when I signed up they told me it would be $35 a month it would never go up it would stay at that and in the last 2 years it's been up $10 every month they were given me credit for but when the company changed I no longer get credit to make it 35... Now the bills about $60.... Anyhow the one main feature that I like is that I can go on to all the different apps like if I wanted to go into the MTV app or if I wanted to go into the The Nickelodeon app... This service does allow me to sign in to those apps so I can go watch all the shows I missed that arent playing live... The spectrum allow you to do as well can I go on the MTV app or the Nickelodeon app and sign in with my Spectrum.. Is my question?

Hi. my Question is: What do you mean when you say that you can watch local news, that others providers dont offer. What are those stream providers? Do you mean Netflix and Hulu..etc?. Thanks for the video.

Does anyone know how timely the On Demand content is with Choice? I have the full Spectrum app and the On Demand content is next day or a few days depending on the channel. With DTVN some channels were a week to two weeks but most were next day or the day after. I don't watch anything live now. Also for those that complain about not having a DVR and/or not being able to skip commercials with On Demand content, I use Desktop PlayOn DVR (just Google it just like that). They have a Cloud version but I don't like it as much. It records from On Demand automatically. You can play back most content with AdSkip and the Spectrum app is built into the PlayOn app which works with devices like Roku.

You never mention the $3 service fee or taxes. You can get a DVR, but it costs extra. You should have asked about those things. And doesn't it require a Spectrum Internet service? Hey, they offer a new one called Spectrum TV Stream for the same price, I think. Try that and tell us the differences.

Good review. As of March 2019, the Spectrum App is available for Apple TV, select Samsung TVs and Roku. The app for Apple TV has some intermittent issues like the live video freezing unexpectedly. The app is very nice. New subscriptions here in Florida using the App give access to all channels (except premium). You no longer have to select your favorite few. But the real story is the premium channels (HBO, Showtime, etc) at $3 each is a steal! I agree totally, even a very limited DVR that allows a pause and/or rewind would be nice. I believe only the Apple TV would have enough internal memory to hold the video as the Roku and Samsung wouldn’t have the memory. So until then, better hold it until a commercial.

I signed up 3 days ago and it now has DVR service but it will not appear on the Menu Screen. Everything else works. Very frustrating. I wish you would re-visit their "updated" services.

I had their home setup box delivered today. Tried for a couple hours to set it up. Ended up calling in for help. Well the tech found out I had everything connected correctly and then realized Spectrum hadn't actually finished setting up my service. He had it set up then it still wouldn't work. We went thru the set up again and everything was set up correctly. I turned my tv back on and again it said "stick around" Looks like it's gonna set up for a few more hours, if not days. The tech told me to go to the local office and ask for the Advanced " channel box. I will do that tomorrow. I use a HiSense Android TV and I'm worried it might not load onto it. I told the tech I had a Android TV but he made no comment. Hmmm...maybe he didn't know what it was. Does anyone else using Spectrum have that set up on an Android TV...not a firestick? Let me know, plese.

The Samsung tv gots the spectrum app now. Since we already paying monthly for wifi and cable... i was curious and download the app and started watching cable right away. Didnt have to do any sign in. I guess since we have wifi from them

Great video, sorry if this was asked already but is it really only 10 channels?! That seems very low for $20 . In your video it seemed you had way more than 10 channels.

I like it but there are time's when it gets blurry for a few seconds then clears up happens too often never did it before been going on about 3 weeks and it only does it on the charter app

ROKU is out and Apple is in for having the Spectrum App/Channel.

Streaming services are good but isos a traditional cable should just go down in price to match the same prices they 40-50 a month. I wonder how it will work with everyone streaming and if there will be enough data to support it in the future. also if all you want is your local channels just get an HD antenna completely free and good for those that don't have high speed internet. When was better this or Hulu plus.

Spectrum is full of crap!! Don't forget to read the minimzed fine print in additional charges when they send offers. Get Spectrum for 89.98 the real number is 160.00 after taxes, equipment and lots of deception. We need better choices both Verizon & Spectrum aren't consumer friendly.

I have a Samsung Qled 900r 8k tv and I downloaded the app...just to realize the app doesn't support HD!?!? Wow

No DVR? Oh hell no. Not an option. When my DIrecTV commitment expires in April, I guess Spectrum will not be an option.

I only had internet from spectrum for a while. Then i get a phone call from spectrum. Offering me the the app service. So now I have internet and the app... I'll like the app. But I did notice for some channels for some reason need my WiFi for it to be available.

you can't use their app on the firestick no matter what u do even using a 3rd party download app it ask you to update which says unavailable

Thanks for the video great wish I would of watch before I got it. It was a waste of time for me to even get it only a few channel I could watch the rest had to be connected to my WiFi. Tried using at my other address wouldn't work wasn't happy.

I just got a new Sony X950H. It’s a 2020 tv yet I can’t seem to find the app on my google play search. Is it not compatible with Sony TV’s??? I thought it was compatible with TV android OS.
