Don't forget if you want a one for one of your disc you can rip it in ISO and Zidoo plays the disk as it was created with menus while maintaining the option to just play the video separately all from the ISO.

The UHD8000 does not support Dolby Vision 7 FEL. Only actual UHD blu-ray players (physical discs) or the Ugoos AM6B Plus can play back the FEL layer.

What I am concerned with is how does this media box player device thing makes media playing better? This box sits between your media stored somewhere - on a NAS or a PC HDD library, and your smart TV. But you can already access all your media and play it without having this box inbetween. So what does it add as functionality or quality? It seems redundant.

Yeah, it's pretty time-consuming, and you'll want powerful hardware (CPU/GPU) and a good bit of fast storage. You can let other people do the hard work and download their files, as this other person has suggested, but the downloads will be quite large for reference quality rips, so better have fast download speeds and hopefully generous or unlimited bandwidth - and of course use a VPN.

I don't know about performance of the R_volution. I do know the team behind the player is the same team that was behind the Zappiti player before they went out of business after an ugly court case in France. I had the latest model Zappiti before the Zidoo Z9X Pro (previous generation and entry model to this one in review). Poster Wall matching is a lot better with Zidoo. If you can't find a title because it got miss matched, a world easier task of finding it and re-matching correctly with Zidoo. Poster Wall performace is supposedly addressed in the R_Volution but Zidoo blew the Zappiti out of the water! As demonstrated in this video of finding other movies in your collection based off of a star or director didn't exist in the Zappiti, does it in the R_volution? Zappiti did play music files but interface was horrible old school folder/list where the Zidoo has a dedicated Music Player app with an interface and poster wall like the Home Theater app for movies and TV. It will even pull and display the lyrics if it can find them. Does the R_volution have that? Looking at the R_volution website you only have one option to get this level of performance. The entire 8K line of Zidoo has the same chipset. Price increases based on enclosure of whether it supports a hard drive in it or not, how many drives, amount and type of ports, and RAM. You can find a Zidoo that suits your budget and needs. Go Zidoo is my suggestion.

@@BruceSiegel I have the previous generation Zidoo Z9X Pro. I do not do music streaming. I play music through the Zidoo that is CD rips mp3 files and new rips that are flac. the file structure of my music is folder of band name, sub folder of album name, then track titles. The music player shows a poster wall of the bands and then when open list the albums and play from there. You can create playlists as well. My music goes over HDMI to my receiver and the receiver is the DAC.

Yes, I have mine in separate folders, then Zidoo combines them in the Poster Wall.
@jjchmiel78
@jjchmiel78 16 дней назад
You can or you can like you had to with Zappiti or could just throw everything on the Hard Drive and let Zidoo sort it out. In the Zidoo poster wall there is categories. "All" shows everything, "Movies" just shows the movies "TV" Just shows TV shows, "4K" shows just 4K titles, "Collections" shows things like Transformers and the sequels, Fast and the Furious and sequels, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars etc. And the Zidoo does all this by default.

Also for 4K discs you will need to go onto the MakeMKV forums and find a compatible drive you can purchase and flash or a seller that will sell you one pre-flashed to work with 4K discs. Most are not compatible.

@jjchmiel78
@jjchmiel78 16 дней назад
Only other way to match the quality of disc is the Kaleidescape player and ecosystem. Problem with them is it is a $4000 entry point. For me it would be the cheaper route in the long run but they just got the cheaper entry point player available this year after I have over 3000 title on discs and already invested in my setup. For casual viewers I suggest just a disc player and the titles you pickup along the way. For someone starting out that wants to watch 3-7 movies a week in the best quality but don't have anything the Kaleidescape makes sense despite it's high cost. For someone like me with years of collecting a player like this and the work of getting your disc into format for Hard Drives make sense in that I can store my discs in boxes in a closet as I don't have the wall/shelf space to put them all on.

@@HomeTheaterHobbyist it doesn't look like you fixed the file name after you ripped it. Beavis and Butthead still says disc 2 etc when it needs to say Beavis and Butthead S01E01 or whatever its respective season and episode happens to be. Same thing with the big bang theory. The file name says the title but then disc 2 and t01 . It needs to say The Big Bang Theory S02Exx.

You can do both but if you have a bunch and just starting new on the player add them to the drive first on the computer before putting drive into the player. Once in the player and you have free space you can add new movies to the drive over the network using SMB protocol. (enable SMB on the player and SMB network discovery on your computer and it pop up as a shared network device) Just slower transfer speed to transfer the large file.

It is a chipset issues shared across all players using it like R_volution, Dune, etc. They trade 3D support for better HDR/Dolby Vision processing. I am very happing with the previous generation Z9X Pro HDR/Dolby Vision performance and the player also supports 3D.

In my opinion, it's impossible to claim that a streaming player (including this UHD8000) delivers exactly the same image quality as a Blu-Ray player. Dolby Vision charges Blu-Ray player manufacturers a (very expensive) license to decode the highest-quality Dolby Vision profile: Profile 7 FEL (Full Enhancement Layer). Players that don't have the license downgrade to DV profiles reserved for streaming (5 or 8) or outright HDR10 or HDR10+, if the TV isn't compatible. Certainly 99% of people don't see the difference between these profiles on their TV screen, but for the remaining 1% (I'm one of them) who have invested $3500 in their OLED TV, it's necessary to qualify your initial assertion.

Questions ❓😳❓😁🤔 How do you record onto those hard drives ❓ How much are the hard drives ❓ If you own say the DVD 📀 version will it let you upgrade for a lower price than going out and buying a physical copy ❓🤔 What internet speed is required to make sure everything runs good❓🤔 Wondering 🤔 do you connect your 4k player to it so it can record❓ Well nice video. I hope you see all my questions 👍😎
@jjchmiel78
@jjchmiel78 16 дней назад
You have to have a computer with a Blu-ray drive for DVD and Blu-ray, and a special compatible/flashed Blu-ray drive for 4K. I paid $140 for mine, figure $200 now. Then you need software. MakeMKV is free and if patient they will provide new code on the forums every couple months to continue using it for free. Support the work and just spend the $65 for it. DVDFab looks interesting and more capable but also pricey real fast. Then you convert your discs to ISO format so it plays like does on your disc player through this or you can select just the movie and the language you want to make a mkv file. Doing the mkv file gets rid of menus, forced previews, extras, and the languages you don't need making a smaller file size to save on hard drive space and fitting more on it. With Zidoo you don't have to get the most expensive model here in this video. Do you need high quality analog DACs for music playback or are you ok sending it over HDMI to your receiver/soundbar? Do you need a serial port for home integration with something like Control4 or is a standard remote or phone/tablet app ok? Do you need dual HDMI so you can send video to display and audio only separate to receiver or are you ok sending everything through one HDMI to your receiver/soundbar and letting it pass through the video to the display? Do you need it to have 1/2 drive bays or are you ok connecting vis USB an external hard drive or over the network to a home NAS? Beauty of this is once you have the poster wall for identifying content or adding new, you don't need outside home internet. You are playing back directly from the hard drive. Then why have this and do all that when I can just use my disc player? Well disc players are not being upgraded. The best dis player Oppo stopped making players in 2018. They sell for triple or more of original price on ebay still because they are still the best players. Samsung stopped making disc players shortly after. LG announced this year they are stopping making disc players. That leaves Sony that hasn't updated their models since 2018 and still has the annoying feature where you have to manually turn on Dolby Vision for Dolby Vision content before watching and Panasonic which again hasn't updated their players in years. There was Reavon which came on the market in 2021 that was good and pricey but they are basically gone now and replaced with Magnetar which gets great reviews but is expensive. Then even with these players what kind of support do you have if the disc drive stops spinning or power supply goes bad? You are stuck buying another one. So why do disc at all and just stream everything? First is quality. Streaming can't match disc. Especially in the audio department! Now if you are sitting 10 feet away from a 55" TV and using a soundbar I would say almost no one would be able to tell the difference. Second is rotating rights. One month this available here and the next over on that streaming source. A lot not at all or never available. Say you want to watch and your provider is having a network outage? Or like me recently when a storm came through and knocked power out due to tree damage taking lines out. My neighborhood didn't have power for 4 days. Home gas powered generator kept me watching with physical media. Now Kaleidescape does offer the quality, the ease of downloading the movie online, once purchased always there so no worry of network outages like I described, very easy to use interface and no time spent converting discs. Problem I have with them is price price and price! For the ENTRY price of a Kaledeiscape and some personal time mostly letting the computer do it's thing while I am away doing other stuff, I can get a entry level Zidoo player, a special 4K compatible Disc drive for my computer, the software, a 22TB external hard drive (will need to be formatted as two partitions of 11TB for the Zidoo) capable of holding over 275 4K movies and 100 4K movies brand new at the average new price of $30.
