The song takes inspiration from a Martha Graham quote ( ultra famous ballerina and teacher) “ a dancer dies twice- once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.” It’s about them losing passion for the art they once loved. They hit a point where their work and stardom became overwhelming and they no longer had the same love for it. I know they also feared the day they wouldn’t be able to dance like they used to. But, in the end, the song is uplifting. They vow that they will never let the darkness consume them again. This is one of my favorite songs by them! As someone who danced all throughout school, I know exactly what they’re getting at with this song.

I perceive this song as how they do not want to lose their passion in music because they talk about their "first death" that they're so afraid of. A passionate artist that has done art for a long time will be hit hard when they realize they can't do art or simply lost the interest they had for so many years, like a "first death" because your art doesn't make your heart beat with excitement anymore. Blackswan easily one of my top bts songs because I can relate to this. Also the place where this mv was filmed is stunning.💜

Another chill BTS song I think you'd really like is *Louder Than Bombs.* ARMY once voted it the song we'd most like them to perform live (of the ones they haven't) but because of the technical complexity needed to truly do the song justice they still haven't and sadly probably won't perform it. Another fandom favorite is *134340 Pluto* where they use Pluto's demotion from planet to dwarf planet as an allegory for a relationship. Then there's *Mikrokosmos* which is a gorgeous love song to ARMY that they often end concerts with, have done drone shows to and generally really make a big deal of when performing it. And lastly there's *Magic Shop* which is another great love song to ARMY (with fan participation) centered around the psychological concept of the same name. All four songs are incredibly beautiful and meaningful but sadly none of them have a MV. You can however find great live versions of three of them - the ones on Enjoy BTS More are subbed and safe to react to. Then there's "the Queen" aka *Spring Day,* a chill song with an incredibly meaningful MV filled with references to a national tragedy. This one is an excellent example of the huge political riscs they've been willing to take to get a point across HOWEVER with this one watching the explanation video made by Italian ARMY is an absolute must: "What you still don't know about BTS Spring Day MV": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FrT4a_Fw6pE.html This song has been on the South Korean charts non-stop for six years so far and for good reason! 🤯 - a danish ARMY, age 47 💜

We're very adamant about lyrics to BTS songs (exception of a few songs) because they're very deep & introspective. Not to mention these are Artists creating the Art that is their music layering their inner self & experience and weaving it with other influences from the Arts (whether it's a time period, various Artists, literature, philosophers, psychologists, etc). There's too much about BTS to write in this comment section so I'll keep it short. They're definitely on a whole different level on their own. Like an onion, there are so many layers to them. They're very deep like the ocean. "Sea" is the title to one of their many hidden tracks gifted to ARMYs. Their discography is extremely massive considering the fact that we've just celebrated their 10th Anniversary since their debut in 2013. 💜 #ARMYsince2014

really enjoyed your reaction !! bts has some love songs that are lovey dovey or sexy similar to other western pop however its always gonna be poetic with bts to me it feels real from real experiences not something thrown together for a hit song that goes for all their music not just the love topic ones. black swan is about their fear of losing their passion for music. its based off the quote "a dancer dies twice but the first death is the more painful" by martha graham. this was when they started going through a burn out but towards the end of the song they found their inspiration again the lyrics get hopefully again at 9:03 they discussed how the kpop industry doesnt allow growth and thats why right now theyre taking the time besides to go to military to also work on themselves as solo artists. they always released solo music but they never really focused on it by itself without group music at the same time. theyre all writers and producers so they genuinely care about the music they make not all kpop artists have the freedom to make their own music or put passion and care into it which is why lyrics arent as important for many other artists but bts started as a hip hop group and even though they do many genres the core values of hip hop are found in all their music the same care they would put into the lyrics of a hip hop song is the same care they put in a pop song. please react to guide to bts the bangtan 7 by taylor and bts hardships 2013 - 2021 by xceleste to understand more about bts. :)

BTS has built its reputation around their lyricism and their eagerness to dive into the deeper things in life. It's really what attracted so many people to be so loyal to them (among many other reasons). They definitely have their purely-fun, silly songs -- but often, even in those, they'll throw in a lyric or two that is just a BAR. You'll find that pretty much every social media trend in the kpop world stems from their ingenuity (and their fanbase's ingenuity that was necessary to get their name out there when the industry shut them out as nobodies -- things like member guides, theory videos, crackhead videos -- that is all thanks to the originality and genius of BTS).

Thanks for your reaction ... It is one of my favorites songs of BTS. The group had its beginnings being more hip hop... over time it diversified handling genres such as: R&B, Pop, EDM, Rock, Jazz. So to me all their songs are different, is hard to tell a song with the same style of Black Swan It seems good to me that you watch the video first and then the lyrics if you are more into the beat and the visuals on the MV. There are many songs that you can enjoy a lot with the beat they have, even without understanding their meaning, but there are other songs that are better appreciated when we know what BTS wants to convey with their lyrics, so that's why Army insists you pay attention to the lyrics so much. Although not all of the group's songs have a deep meaning, there are also songs that are just to brighten our mood, that are fun... but if you pay attention to the lyrics you will realize that in several of their "upbeat songs" have a reflective message where they criticize a social issue (like "Baepsae", "Go go", "Spine Breaker", "Jump") Let me give you some suggestions for your consideration for future reactions: • "Blood, Sweat & Tears": the video is inspired by Hermann Hesse's book, "Demian" The 1919 novel tells a story of a boy who fluctuates between the "world of light" and "world of illusion" This song is part of the Wings Album. The entire album is inspired by the novel Demian: Emil Sinclair's Youth Story, by Hermann Hesse. The novel recounts Sinclair's passage from childhood to maturity, going through moments of dreams, lies and destruction. It reflects the transition from innocence to falling into the temptation of adulthood ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hmE9f-TEutc.html • "Fake Love": the lyrics signify the desperation of staying in a relationship that no longer has any love and happiness left in it. With the song’s lyrics focusing on deception and angst, BTS essentially is trying to convey the message that it’s better to let go of a fake relationship that holds no value. It can affect individuals negatively, leading them to feel trapped, useless and powerless. The song also encourages individuals to understand themselves better and not pretend to be someone they’re not. Is a reminder that real love starts with self-love - loving and accepting oneself for who they truly are. The MV has a lot of simbolisms, many of them about the BU (Bangtan Universe, the paralel story that goes through several BTS MV) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7C2z4GqqS5E.html • "Film Out": the title of the song directly references film cameras. When a camera hits the limit of exposures on a film roll, the film is out and needs to get processed in order to obtain the photos that were taken. With such restrictions, people try their best to take the best pictures to capture the most beautiful moments in life since a film roll contains a limited number of exposures. Unfortunately, not every moment can be captured because the exposures eventually run out. The title also implies that the limit of the film roll has been reached and all that’s left are the memories inside the film roll. However, another meaning of the song title is that a person shouldn’t limit themselves or else they’ll miss out on the important and beautiful things in life because life is made up of experiences. You will also see some scenes that are related to the "Bangtan Universe" that you may not understand so well but it is still an interesting video that has many symbolisms ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zFT3f9biz68.html • "Louther than bombs": this is one of my favorites songs from the group but it doesn't have a music video or a live performance... Is just the color coded lyrics video but the vocals, the lyrics, the beat, the rap in the song to my are so dope Based on the introduction of what RM has shared to us in a past broadcast of him, the song tells a story of how sadness and fear grow as a person encounters pain/struggles in life. He particularly shared about relating to ARMYs letters, comments and posts in social media who expressed themselves when feeling down and seeking comfort and being grateful to BTS as they became a huge role to motivate strength, acceptance and love. He imagined that during concert tours, fans share the fun with them but he realized that beyond those faces are fragile lives who have different stories to tell and fans count on their songs and presence. As for BTS, who encourages everyone to ''speak yourself/ourselves" (from their voices of reasons in many ways) the message or rather, main inspiration of the song is that, they are going to continue to listen to our stories and will never stop singing for us, while we speak ourselves. Personally, it transmits to me the power of resilience, how you can break when everything gets difficult and uphill but you can be stronger than that, as they say: what doesn't kill you makes you stronger... and in the end, your voice and your spirit must be stronger than that. It is a reminder that we are not alone, that there is someone who feels and understands our pain, that it is for this very reason that we must continue forward with determination, having the support of others... It is a recognition from BTS to their fans for giving them strength with his love in the face of bad times and vice versa. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BVzTBj2O6Dc.html • "Magic Shop": is inspired by the book "Into the Magic Shop: a neurosurgeon's quest to discover the mysteries of the brain and the secrets of the heart", by the American clinical professor of neurosurgery James R. Doty. The book is a memoir by James R. Doty, about the lessons he learned from Ruth, a woman he met in a magic shop, one of the lessons or tricks was to open his heart. It is a psychodramatic technique that exchanges fear for a positive attitude. BTS’s “Magic Shop” is a fan song produced by Jungkook, in which BTS asks fans to open their hearts when they are in pain, and tells fans about their own experiences, letting them know that they are not alone. Magic Shop doesn't have an official MV but there is a live performance of the guys that I really like ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c1IQEbl25Tw.html Regards from México 💜

Turn on the subtitltes/captions they are the correct one's as it's their official MV. All BTS lyric's are important they don't write meaningless lyric's it's one of the many reason they are so successful they write about real issue's. It's anything but chill it's their heart felt cry about the fear of losing their passion for their art. It even the shadow has the psychological meaning it's part of Carl Jungs map of the mind. It's goes along with Ego and Persona. As someone who was psychology major I've studied Jungian Psychology. Shadow is the part of the psychology of the Mind where are darkest thoughts lie, where we fears are were we hid away the things don't want others to know about ourselves. In the MV that Shadow represents their fears for losing their passion for their art eg writing songs, composing producing, singing, rapping Dancing or ever the fear of going up onstage. When you see the 'Shadow' falling down/shrinking to nothing it represents that inner conflict being over come of them as group overcoming their fears of losing their passion and ability to do what they love.

I think with kpop it's fine not to read the lyrics. They're very often glorified sound effects. But with BTS it is. They tell us that all the the time. The rappers write almost every line of their music and the vocalists contribute sometimes too and it's all so sincere. And their sincerity, their vulnerability, their artistry, their story...that's why we're all here and that's why we've made them the biggest band in the world. Because we know that there's magic there and that the more people in this world that get to hear them, the more people that will know a comfort and joy like no other. That sounds dramatic and cult-y. But I'm a 30 year old lawyer from the US and a life-long cynic and they changed my life. Then I watched them do it for both of my sisters, two friends, and a coworker. Anyway...the lyrics matter with BTS. So I get being into the vibe of a song and enjoying it on the surface level. BTS' songs are great quality and you can totally enjoy them that way. But you'll never really *get it* if you skip the lyrics.

I'd like to toss in a pitch for some of the other groups also having lyrics that matter 😁 it's fine if you're not interested, but not all of kpop is meaningless. There are other groups that write their own songs and have something to say. 💜

I'm with you. When I first watch a music video I do it without the captions because a video is meant to be heard and seen - NOT read. With BTS the music says it all. There's plenty of time for the lyrics later.

There is a lot to say about Black Swan. there are some people that summarized what the lyrics are about so i won't do that. Did you notice that when Jin turned away from the mirror to look into the camera his mirror image was not moving with him? Yeah, that is a reminder of the movie - among other things. There are also reminders of Swan Lake because of that. We are on the Map of the Soul - which is also the title of a book by Murray Stein about the psychology theory of Carl Jung - one of the founding fathers of psychology. Jung talked about the parts that make a human inside. Which is why we have a "Intro: Persona" (RM), "Interlude: Shadow" (Suga) and "Outro: Ego" (J-Hope). All songs under the concept can be interpreted under this concept. The Persona(s) being what the environment wants to see in us. Different people will see different things because we behave differently with different people - to children, strangers, parents, friends etc. The shadow is our unconsicous part. The part we even hide from ourself, that is unacceptable not only to others but that makes us angry, afraid etc, that keeps us up at night and brings us to our knees when we least expect it if we deny it too long. Black Swan is about the shadow: Their discovery what their greatest fear is: that music will not move them anymore, that they lost their passion for their art. The shadow moves independently of them for a reason. Since no one has mentioned it it seems - HYBE artrists MV have CC/official subtitles on the down right. The newer the better the translations. (Some of their first MVs have none and those and Fire should probably be watched on the channel 1theK which also counts as official for those) Colorcoded lyrics are not that good. The ones with the most views? Fastfood translations - the faster they are out the more views they get - despite the translations actually not being that great. Doolsetbangtan has some of the best translations (that is not a youtube channel but a website for their songs with context) You don't miss anything when you do not know the lyrics of most K-pop/Pop artists. It's usually superficial - not always but most of it. With BTS? While there are some fun songs there are a lot more with a message - the title of the album is often the key to the meaning of the songs on the albums. Lyrics are the true reason why they are so big - especially since there are involved from the melody till the end production (everyone has at least one song they produced I think). Not alone but more than most artists. Without that drive of wanting to be heard with their message they would have given up long ago/never have made it - Idol music being too competetive for an artist from a small company with no real connections. bby gang mag: "BTS: More than K-pop" (the difference), "BTS vs. K-pop" (definition of what K-pop even is) help to explain - the channel is very good. P.S. You really need to do something with the changing lighting. Sometimes it is almost white and than again very dark. Maybe only use artificial light? IDK. You nice! Keep going! 💜

To understand more of this song, watch the prerelease of this song which was put out by BigHit. Search for Black Swan Art Film where they use classical instruments and song, and they used a dance troupe who used ballet/contemporary style of dance while dancing in bare feet. Then watch the video of BTS watching this Art Film where they mention that Jimin should dance the lead like the main dancer in that Art Film video. Then you should watch the Late Late show with James Corden where BTS came out with their own version of the dance and also the song as you hear it now and not the Classical version. They did do the classical representation in their live show with just the dance in a performance when they did Black Swan, On, Life Goes On, and Dynamite medley.

Love your reaction. Just found you today. The instrument sounds like a Korean gayageum and maybe an erhu. I don't know if it is synthesized or how it was altered. BTS use a lot of traditional Korean instruments in their music. Most recently in the solo by Suga aka Agust D Haegeum. A haegeum is a 2 stringed instrument and in one of the live performances it is actually played. Really cool. It's about the fear of losing your passion. Secondly, Black Swan only has in common with the movie, that it is based on the famous ballet Swan Lake. About two swans, one white/good and the other black/evil. In many modern productions both parts are played by the same dancer. It symbolizes the struggle within oneself between light and dark. BTS did a whole series of music based on the works of Carl Jung and Daemian by Herrmann Hesse. All about the shadowself, ego and persona. Their lyrics and ideas are just amazing. Enjoy the rabbit hole. 😘💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🫰🏻

Appreciate your review and welcome to the rabbit hole. If you like the slow and cinematic videos, try Blood, Sweat, and Tears, "On" the official MV, or Spring Day. Their discography is extensive and their music is relevant and relatable. You won't hear any cursing, sex, drugs, guns etc. in their songs. Lyrics are deep and it helps to read them. If you watch A Guide to BTS, the Bangtan 7, by Taylor Mari, this will give you better understanding of the group and why they are so big. I am 66 yrs old and have been ARMY for a little over 3 yrs. They helped me thru a dark time in my life and I will be forever grateful. Thank you for taking the time to listen. Borahae 💜💜💜

That’s a bit of a… lie?? They do have cursing in their songs, especially once you delve into their earlier songs and solo albums. They like to express themselves through cursing, the difference is just that they use it for a purpose. They might not take drugs or use drugs but yoongi has mentioned ‘pill poppers’ in his solo stuff and he has mentioned and shown us that he has taken meds for something… assuming it was his depression. Their earlier stuff has a lot of gun sounds in the actual music and one video does show a gun because the music itself uses the sounds. Their most recent song with gun sounds is probably ‘ugh’ and yoongi uses a gun in his mvs quite a bit. I think you meant that they don’t talk about those stereotypical things hip hop artist talk about, which of course they don’t. They have a purpose to them when used when it comes to BTS but they have cursed, used gun imagery or sounds and at least mentioned drugs/prescription, in their music quite a bit. The rappers sometimes do reference sex in their music but it’s used more in a throw away line or a diss or through a metaphor. They don’t make songs about purely sex. Sorry if I’m coming off as mean? That’s not my intention I’m just trying to not start any misconceptions. You’re right 90% of BTS (emphasis on BTS) don’t have those things but when you delve into the solo stuff or their earlier discography, youll find they do make use of those things for the purpose they need.

BTS is beyond KPop. Their work has a lot of depth. Their music is also socially conscious commenting on social phenomenon through popular music. For BTS it is advisable to look "underneath" as there are many layers to the lyrics. For songs like Black Swan, Fake Love, Ddeang and Idol and Spring Day for example it is worth looking for explanation videos to appreciate the meaning behind the songs, visuals and choreography if you are really commited reactor. If not it might be touch and go and a missed opportunity. Please refer to other commentators suggestions as they are good ones.

I know you mentioned you like to check out new songs without the lyrics as a priority, but with BTS the lyrics are part of the experience. They are true, complete musicians even though they're Kpop. Next, I would recommend "Singularity" and "Serendipity". At the beginning of BTS's albums, they have an "Intro" track that is sung by one member. "Singularity" is V's intro track and "Serendipity" is Jimin's intro track. They are called trailers, but they are full songs. The music videos for those two are also very artistic.

Thank you for your reaction. Black Swan is one of my favorites, every version of it is art. Which, given the meaning of the song, is very appropriate. It's so incredibly beautiful. Watching you get lost in it reminded me of watching it for the first time. In the future, if you want to read the lyrics ahead of time so you can watch without subtitles and still know what's going on, just know that Army wouldn't mind that. Purely blind reactions aren't super important to us. We just like watching people come to an appreciation of BTS 😁 They don't really have bad songs... People will suggest so many things for you to watch 😁 I suggest you follow your own curiosity and approach their ten years of work in whatever way makes sense to you. But if you tell us what you'd like to see or learn, we'll have suggestions. And we're always happy to explain things. So happy. Sorry, I know we get overwhelming. 🤣 They hit a bunch of genres, they all have solo work, they have a variety show that's very fun (and a good way to learn their names), they write about important things... There's a lot of fun ahead of you 💜
