Thanks for your reaction 😊 Let me give you an insight about some meanings of the video The band members appear not even as young men, but as children - this is especially noticeable in the first frames of the video. Suga rides around the museum on a bike, Jimin holds a slingshot, Jungkook hangs on a swing eating a lollipop, Jin appears in the frame with a balloon. However, as the plot develops, children’s games change. Instead of the slingshot Jimin was holding, there is a bow and arrow in J-Hope’s hands, Jungkook leaves the swing, Jin releases the balloon. One way or another, the band members symbolically say goodbye to childhood. And then another motive comes to the fore - temptation, sin. The dance symbolizes an attempt not to notice the evil around them: the guys cover their eyes with their hands, then their lips, then their ears Now other symbols appear in the frame: Jimin’s apple refers us to the biblical idea of original sin; Rap Monster drinks absinthe while bathing in clouds of smoke (probably opium) in a gloomy room resembling a den. By the way, here is how Rap Monster himself explains the meaning of the Blood, Sweat & Tears video: “The stronger the temptation, the more you think about it and hesitate. This uncertainty is part of the process of growing up. The song Blood, Sweat & Tears shows how we think, choose and grow.” If we give in to temptation, then we are not perfect. Recognizing one’s own imperfection is a task that confronts a teenager at the time of growing up. The key scene in which the heroes of the video accept the duality of human nature is a kiss with a statue The statue of an angel is snow-white, but black wings spread out behind its back. This is the symbol of imperfection: each of us carries both black and white, good and evil, children and adults, sin and its redemption. When Jin touches his lips to the lips of the statue, he takes a conscious step towards accepting his dual nature. The next frame carries the same meaning - V with wings carved on the back. But accepting evil as an integral part of the real world and oneself is not so easy. A teenager who is on the verge of growing up, with childish naivety, tries to close his eyes to the evil around him. This inner struggle, the struggle with one’s own ignorance, is brought to the fore in BTS’ Blood, Sweat & Tears video. Take a closer look at the dance that the guys perform: sometimes closing their hands, sometimes opening their eyes, ears, mouths, they show their desire to hide the unpleasant aspects of life from themselves. This movement is more clearly manifested in the scene with Jin: the band members cover his face with their hands, and then remove them - this is the moment of awareness and acceptance of life as it is, along with injustice, evil, temptation and imperfection. The same motif is repeated by frames It’s hard not to notice the sheer amount of fine art references scattered across the frames of BTS’ Blood, Sweat & Tears video. However, not only to the pictorial: in the first frames, both a book and theater binoculars appear. But the focus is still painting and sculpture. The action of the clip takes place in a museum, and the paintings become the backdrop for the unfolding events. Jin freezes in front of Pieter Brueghel’s The Fall of the Rebellious Angels. Jungkook’s room has Herbert Draper’s Lament on Icarus, and Pieter Bruegel’s Fall of Icarus is in the frame of the V jump. It is not difficult to deduce the general arithmetic - the flight of Icarus, which ended with burned wings and a fall. The scenes of flying and falling are played out by the guys themselves - V, jumping from the balcony, and Jungkook, hovering under the ceiling of his room. However, although the fate of Icarus was tragic, in the video his story is used more as a warning. Wings can lead to a fall, but they can also lift their owner to unprecedented heights. Suga confirms this idea: “The song conveys the desire of a man to rise high on his wings, despite all the temptations with which he is surrounded in life.” Source: blimey.pro/bts-blood-sweat-tears/ Regards from México 💜

The concept album this song is on is based around the book ‘Demian’ by Herman Hesse - at its simplest, a story about losing the innocence of childhood in order to grow. Every single piece of art in the MV has significance relating to this theme, as does the clip of organ music in the middle of the song, and the spoken phrase which is a quote from the book. There’s more but I’d be writing a full essay! We do hassle reactors about lyrics (sorry😆) but forget that with BTS context is often really important in fully understanding a song.

@@K-RossReacts in Kpop Industry they prioritize the Visuals first and then the Music In West Music Industry they prioritize the Music first and then the song lyrics and meaning BTS on the other hand has 4 priorities. First is the song lyrics and messages Next is the music Then the context of the song (back story and the purpose of the song) Lastly is the Visual The visuals have deep meanings too and it's important to know the context in order to understand their songs Anyways, all I'm gonna say is: BTS is not Kpop and so is the soloist IU They seem like Kpop so people just categorized then as such but that's actually very misleading First of all, BTS technically is bigger than Kpop Even their accomplishments is bigger than all Kpop acts combined Second of all, BTS are not supported by any Industry including Kpop and the West Music Industry Thirdly, BTS is one of the biggest independent artist in the World

@@K-RossReacts also, BTS music and discography is a lot bigger and deeper than you'll ever think. They have hundreds of songs and 30+ overall albums Also, BTS also write, compose, and produce their own music and sometimes direct their own music video. Unlike 1 Direction or BlackPink or any other groups that are popular from the start of their career because they were created and we're under by the largest and biggest label in their Music Industry which help them become popular BTS on the other hand don't have that luxury, because they came from a very small company near bankruptcy that has no power to promote them or whatsoever BTS themselves were the ones personally promoting themselves on the streets, asking random strangers to come to their free concert, knocking door to door to ask people to watch their performance and even asking strangers on the streets to be one of their cast in their Music Videos since they lack power and resources As a result, the strangers or anyone who saw them and appreciate their music instantly became their loyal fans And those fans were the ones who wanted BTS to get big since they clearly deserve it So they were the ones who promoted BTS They shared BTS contents via online, even putting translations and subtitles so that foreigners can understand them And as years go by, BTS fans are getting larger and lager day by day and they are the main vehicle of BTS success Not some industry, media play, or capital or authority BTS just became big naturally And their company got bigger too

Only BTS can give you a sumptuous and gorgeous music video and a song about temptation and good and evil based on an existentialist philosophical coming of age novel from the beginning of the 20th century with psychological theory in it and using many works of art, biblical references and other imagery, as well as their typical interpretive storytelling dance moves. By the way, the organ player is Suga. The quote above the mirror at the end is from Nietzsche “ One must have chaos in oneself to give birth to a dancing star.” It is a reference to needing balance, needing the knowledge or both the good and the evil inside yourself, the chaos, to become a fully realized human being and grow into your adult self. The statue is Abraxis, a God of both Good and Evil, the balance, the duality, and is mentioned by them in other work related to this album. V has scars on his back because he represents a fallen Angel, which is a theme throughout the video, and we see him fall from the balcony. Jungkook plays Icarus, the son Deadalus who flew too close to the sun and melted his wings made of feathers and wax, falling into the sea. In the scene where he is suspended near the ceiling we see feathers float around him as though he is either falling or already floating underwater in the sea. Jin cracking at the end is the shell of childhood cracking like an age, to fall away as his adult self is born. It’s bittersweet but a necessary part of growing up.

I appreciate how upfront you were about not being into lyrics too much. Everybody has their own preference on how they enjoy art or music. You're more into how the vocals and the melody affects you more than the lyrics. Although lyrics are an integral part of BTS song productions in general, I think it's fine if you just love them for their musical productions as well like classical music. There are a lot of great songs with great vocals and moving melodies in their vast discography that you'll enjoy. For suggestions, House Of Cards, Mikrokosmos, Home, Zero O'Clock are some of my favorites you may like. Enjoy your BTS musical journey!

As the previous poster said plus it's based on the book Daimen by the German Author Herman Hesse about a boy growing up, encountering Temptation, his lose of Innocence and acceptance. It lead to the book being sold out and having to be reprinted. Schools were trying to get their pupils to read this classic book but after Blood, Sweat and Tear's teachers were thanking BTS for the sudden uptake in their pupils buying and reading the book. RM reads a line the line out of the book in it's English translation. Also there's a quote above the mirror Jin is looking into after kissing the statue that's also from the book in the Original German. Don't worry a lot of BTS work is influenced by art, books and Psychology.

This is why they are the Biggest Global band that sell out the biggest stadiums in the world. They are all solo artists in their own right. The main Song Writers, Composers and Producers of the group are the 3 Rappers RM, Suga(aka Agust D) and J Hope however the vocalist Jin, Vm Jimin and Jungkook (JK) are also Song Writers, composers and Producers each to a greater or lesser extend. Most of the members play at least one instrument. They have far more creative freedom than any other group/artist in the Kpop Industry and They tactual topic's that are uncommon in Kpop. Also their Rappers were part of the underground Hip Hop scene RM as a Rapper, Suga as a Rapper and Producer and J Hope as a street Dancer.

Thank you. There is no wrong interpretation. They leave it up to the listener, and a lot of the songs seem to be on the surface about relationships, which they are too. Now, that being said, the deep meaning is based on Daemian by Hermann Hesse. About a young boy's journey into manhood hood. It's about facing temptation. In the beginning of the mv, Jin is looking at a painting, the Fall of the Rebel Angels by Pieter Breugel the Elder. In a short synopsis, it's about facing temptation and the fact that the psyche has to be broken or cracked, no longer pure in order to embrace adulthood. Hence, the cracking of Jin. The idea that the dark and the light must both inhabit a being to be whole. In the book, there is an evil being named Abraxas, who is represented by the statue. Jin then gives in to temptation. The quote is directly from the book. There is so much more symbolism, like the absinthe, the swing, Icarus who flew too close to the sun, the arrow, even the statues one is David slaying Goliath to name a few(more than a few 🤣🤣🤣) I'm glad you enjoyed it. It is outstanding, and we haven't been used to musicians having this depth. 😘💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🫰🏻

Temptation is the main theme, addiction/obsession, and maybe how learning or exposing yourself to knowledge can "corrupt" your innocence. In the lyrics, the focus is more focused on toxic/intoxicating/addictive love but the visuals of the MV are more about good/evil, dark/light, innocence/experience. Jin (yes, the "main character") is exposed to all this art and it affects him, tempts him into wanting to know more, wanting to push boundaries, entrances him with its "beauty" that also can lead to obsession. V (yup, the fallen angel is V) is the one...leading Jin astray. The progression of the visuals show all the guys starting off as mostly normal, innocent/ignorant guys goofing around in the museum but they all slowly...degenerate as they get deeper into the song/museum/trying new things until they're all kind of a mess and look like their drugged/drunk/wild. RM is drinking absinthe, JK has a scuker of some kind then is writhing around on the bed, J-hope is shooting paint at the art while the fountain spews colored water, Jimin is blindfolded, V is under the veil which is slowly lifting. Suga is...well, he's just Suga, hah, playing the organ. After the break with the organ music, it seems like they're back to normal as they leave but Jin...looks back (don't look back!) and is captured by the angel, gives in to the temptation to kiss it, and woo - chaos explodes. The Jin in the mirror (that's a mirror or window into an alternate dimension - see the flowers in the vase are different) is cracked now, no longer quite so pure and naive.

You did pretty well with the interpretation of the lyrics on the first level. The thing is that their songs have multiple levels. This song is more deeply about the temptations of youth and breaking free of them and moving into adulthood and leaving all the trappings of youth behind. "He too … was a tempter; he, too, was a link to the second, the evil world with which I no longer wanted to have anything to do." It’s a quote from the book “Demien” by Herman Hesse. The book is about an older man looking at and reflecting on his childhood, giving reasons and analysis as to why he acted in certain ways in different situations RM, in particular, is a deep thinker and reader. They also draw from the teachings of Carl Jung about the ego, the persona and the shadow. You will find these themes, both lyrically and visually, continuously showing up in many of their songs and music videos. If you recall, the shadow featured prominently in Black Swan.

There's really a sublayer of meaning visually and lyrically. RM took inspiration from Herman Hesse and Carl Jung. Bts is prolly one of the deepest groups in music. They had a whole story/life arc from the very beginning. Teen angst, temptations as they mature, meaning of love, self love. There's lots of theories and essays on this particular song. But the bottom line is it's a Banger. I've seen your twice vids, that's what got me to sub, and what you're experiencing is pretty much what I went thru when I found kpop and kept falling down that rabbit hole. I grew up with western music (rock pop metal) and the biggest surprise was that this parallel musical world existed simultaneously without me even being aware of it. Ck out their live stage of this...I think mnet stage. Dude, it's one of the best I've ever seen. I'm enjoying this journey of yours 🤟🫰

Great reaction I’ll add in one more detail the mirror has a German quote on it “It is a quote from Fredrick Nietzche who if you didn't already know is a famous German philosopher, cultural critic, poet and Latin and Greek scholar. The quote reads: "Man muss noch Chaos in sich haven, um einen tranzenden Stern gebaren zu konnen." Trabslation: "You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star."” Which is another very significant clue. Love how they incorporate literature, philosophy, art, religion all into this. It’s like a puzzle to find all the clues in their music and MVs.

The beat of this song was produced by Jimin just like Fake Love. Would you believe that Jin also wrote the beat of Idol and the beat of DNA was by Jhope, Zero O'Clock from V and Magicshop and Euphoria from JK? Although, it was of RM and Suga who were first hired as song writters and producers by BigHit at the oytset of their creation as a group, RM and Suga have never fell short in giving credit to the great contribution of their co-members in the production and writing of their songs. Suga have spoken alot about how big the vocal lines have contributed in enhancing the melody of their songs. RM have always been open about the members who participated in writing the lyrics of their song and how members participated in the artistic creation of their Albums.
