I bought the Geraud power trimmer and it is a joy to use. Once you use it, you will never use anything else.

Awesome screwdriver, after seeing it I did some research so I don’t have to use my bulky power drills. The Ryobi QT ticked all the boxes and is the perfect tool.... thx Gavin

Looks like the shavings fall into a tray. I like that! Currently using a Lyman trimmer with the power adapter. Works good enough, but leaves a little to be desired.

I would love to see a full review of the Lee Auto Breech Lock Pro when they start shipping them. It looks like the LoadMaster and the Turret Press had a baby. Also, the long range rifle vids are always fun.

Talk about precision, for the average backyard reloader, Wilson is a tough one to beat. - Update -2yrs later. I finally bought this LE Wilson trimmer but I use it for internal and external neck turning of my new pet brass! Forsters trimmer also will do both internal and external neck turning. These are the 2 best options I found below the 1799.00 IDOD trimmer. I also got Wilsons inline seating dies and the arbor press with force gauge for seating all my loads in my 2 best long range rifles. Consequently I have been using Wilson case gauges and micrometer for them. When I got my 1st box of Lapua brass I knew I had to step up and neck turn and do everything as accurate as possible to get the most concentricity out of my loads as possible. The motorized neck trimmers are tough to beat for speed but now I have another option for precision trimming with my LE Wilson neck turner as well!

Any idea on how to accurately spin a tapered case at high speed for neck turning? I have tried the K&M power adapter with the Lee shell holder and it does not work very well. Thanks and nice video.

100-200 rpm for this tool...

Redding case trimmers grab the cartridge by the base and the entire case then rotates, which works great when used for case neck trimming. For actual case trimming, the Wilson is much, much better, but the Redding trimmer works very well as a brass spinner alone. I'd look for a used Redding trimmer... they should be out there and pretty cheap from people that have upgraded.

I need to get a cheapo screwdriver already, I bought the adapter a year ago, lol. Mine is in a little set up from Sinclair and the crank handle over 100 cases is killing me. I like the WFT I have for high volume, but it is very sensitive to how you hold the case for good, square trims. Also, what is your opinion of Peterson Brass?
@mrhangfire1
@mrhangfire1 6 лет назад
This one does pretty good, it indexes off of the case taper that was created by your chamber and uses the case head to index off of for case length. So if your barrel was chambered properly, and your bolt face is square, it is about as good as it is going to get.

So what exactly happens if you use a drill driver? Even one with an easily controllable speed via the trigger?
@RHall1
@RHall1 6 лет назад
spyderxtra777 it tends to create burrs and can roll over the brass instead of biting into it an cutting it. It really just makes for more deburring in the end.
@spyderxtra777
@spyderxtra777 6 лет назад
Randal Hall ok but should I be good if I just go slowly with the drill driver? I know with my dewalt 18v I could fairly reliably mimic the speed of that tool he has there
@RHall1
@RHall1 6 лет назад
spyderxtra777 yes it is a combination of speed vs. feed. The slower the feed vs. the speed of rotation equals the smaller the chips generated. Small chip equals less burrs.
@aaronm8694
@aaronm8694 6 лет назад
I use a cordless drill on slow setting.
@RHall1
@RHall1 6 лет назад
spyderxtra777 I personally use a cordless drill and just go slow. Mine has a high and low speed so I just set it on slow and go lightly on the feed pressure. A clue that you are going to fast is larger chips and possibly strips. Also if you see the burr roll over the mouth use less feed pressure.

Do you know the thread of the trimmer? It would be simple to build an adapter with a tap and die.
@zoidelux
@zoidelux 6 лет назад
cool gavin, you should compare the accuracy of this to the Giraud trimmer!! i have the hornady power prep station, but im looking at the giraud, because with that, you don't have to mount each case in a holder and take it back out for every case.
@Ultimatereloader
@Ultimatereloader 6 лет назад
The giraud trimmer is great, but works by headspacing- so there's a different kind of accuracy there (shoulder to case mouth, not case overall length).
@zoidelux
@zoidelux 6 лет назад
gavintoobe right, but maybe it will still be accurate if all the cases are bumped the same?
@RollerCam

You won't beat the accuracy of the Wilson trimmer.

This video shows exactly what not to do... how not to slam the cases after they have been properly trimmed and chamfered... especially for a precision shooter. Shoot lots and stay safe.
@lanceschul
@lanceschul 6 лет назад
Wilson instructs you to do that. I have this trimmer and haven't had any issues with the cases by lightly tapping them. However, you can never be too careful!
@spyderxtra777
@spyderxtra777 6 лет назад
bison uberti tapping them in and out doesn’t hurt a thing, it just bothers people with ocd that haven’t tried this trimmer lol
@Ultimatereloader
@Ultimatereloader 6 лет назад
It’s a light tap, this is wet quite a few benchrest shooters do and what Wilson instructs you to do, even sat down with the president and he showed me first hand.
@robleo69
@robleo69 6 лет назад
I have the Wilson trimmer. Mine came with a "hockey puck like" white 1/2" vinyl disk (cutting board material) on the tray in it's own slot that I bought some years ago from Sinclair Intl. I tap it on the disk every time and it does not effect the case mouth whatsoever. I'm sure the way Gavin is doing is fine as well. However, as the old saying goes, "to each their own". Everyone has an opinion based upon "their own experience" and that doesn't translate to, "you are doing it wrong". Just my .002. Keep'em coming Gavin.
@bisonuberti
@bisonuberti 6 лет назад
Gavin... those were no slight taps those were slams. And... yes it does affect the necks concentric shape did you ask Wilson's President that question... because I did, or at least their employees.
@aaronm8694
@aaronm8694 6 лет назад
Swapping between power adapter or crank handle wont make difference to length settings. It spaces off the nut which is fixed to the cutter :) I got the Sinclair version. Identical.
@Ultimatereloader
@Ultimatereloader 6 лет назад
On the version I have, the nut is not fixed to the cutter, so it does affect trim length in my case!
@RollerCam
@RollerCam 5 лет назад
My Wilson trimmer is 8 years old and the nut is definitely NOT fixed to the cutter. You WILL change the dimensions with a different handle.

Slamming the sized, trimmed and chamfered case mouth on the table to remove the case can't be good for minimizing runout. Also, slamming the case into the holder could affect headspace.
@spyderxtra777
@spyderxtra777 6 лет назад
njgrplr2007 yep, you would think, but it doesn’t. And it’s less of a slam and more of a tap.
@mrhangfire1
@mrhangfire1 6 лет назад
I am interested to know how headspace would be affected? It is a straight tapered bore in a piece of steel. If you mean slamming it so hard that it begins to squeeze the case into the shape of the holder, ok, but it seems obvious that you shouldn't do that.
@Ultimatereloader
@Ultimatereloader 6 лет назад
Hey guys, it totally doesn’t matter how far the case is in the case holder because there’s a rear stopped and a cutting-edge those are the only two reference points always - you can get it under thousandth of an inch if you’re careful (consistency).
@mrhangfire1
@mrhangfire1 6 лет назад
Correct, the amount that the case enters will vary depending on the sizing that is done, but the OAL case length is consistent regardless. The Sinclair mic on mine leaves something to be desired though. The graduations are not equal to the amount that will be trimmed. If I may make a few suggestions for video topics? - Recent advancements in high BC bullets, especially 6.5mm, as compared to other heavy for caliber bullets from its neighbors the 6mm and 7mm. - Your thoughts on Rem/age prefit barrels as it relates to accuracy. Viable option for precision rifle use or are there alignment issues that are bound to happen a-la receiver faces and thread tolerances? - Lab Radar: the future or flash in the pan? Calculating true BC's (maybe?) and being able to use it in overcast conditions is appealing. I use a traditional chronograph and it is a constant source of irritation (CED).
