I use a homemade trimmer similar to the LE Wilson trimmer and a Lyman case prep station. I finish each case with a cut down 300WM case with an 8-32 screw through the primmer hole. I stuff steel wool in the case and attach it to my prep station. This polishes the neck and makes for consistent bullet seating.

I use a hornady case prep trio with an adapter that let's me thread a lee trimmer into one of the stations. The other 2 stations are chamfer and deburr. Instead of the lee chuck going into a drill you can hold it and let the cutter spin in the case prep trio.

I have a Giraud tri-way trimmer for .223 and I've noticed pretty close trim lengths within 2-3 thousandths of all my mixed range brass. My fingers do get a little tired after a few hundred cases tho 😅 so the Henderson looks quite nice 👍 👌

I just started trimming with the Lyman case trim express. At first I was having a difficult time getting consistent results and then I removed the overpowered spring that comes installed in it and everything was dead on after. Just have to go slower because you will run through cutters quick if you just jam every case in without the spring to help slow you down.

Looks nice! I used the Giraud trimmer for years. Now that I am doing less shooting, I am using my Wilson hand trimmer. Not as fast, extremely accurate and far less expensive. If you are going through a large quantity of brass, I am sure this would be a great tool to have.

It's been so long since I started doing this. I started out with hand held Lee . Lyman universal for everyday hunting or target plinking. Forster for the gotta be best can be. Both can be turned by hand but I built a high speed d.c. motor drive for them on linear bearing tracks semalar to the trimmer your showing today. Did this 15 or so years ago. It saves on trimmer bearing surfaces and definitely keeps the arthritis from being aggravated as much. I like what you showed to day however when a person has muscle ticks or uncontrollable movements sometimes, trying to put a shell init holder and the cutter still spinning, I can see a possible ooops moment and so damaged fingers.

I currently use the Lyman Universal Trimmer. It's a manual operation but for the amount of brass that I work with, it suits my needs. The whole brass prep process is tedious and I'd love to gain some efficiency. That Henderson trimmer would be awesome. But at this time, I cannot justify the cost. Of the motorized trimmers that I have looked at, I think that this would be the one I'd go with. Maybe one day...

I currently use the RCBS with the 3-way head. Works “just OK”… does the job but is soooooo slow compared to the Henderson. Ensuring the case is centered along the axis of the trimmer is more work too. I shoot Grendel in my AR for 3-Gun and had a ton of brass to process. Even at its slow speed, the RCBS was far superior to doing them all by hand. The Henderson is on my “things I need to upgrade” list!

I love my Henderson trimmer. I had to change my brass prep process though due to the neck needing to fit over the mandrel. So after annealing I use a Short Actions die to bump my shoulder back 2 thousands without affecting the neck, due to needing the mandrel to slide inside the neck of the brass. I need this step prior to trimming as the brass can become longer after full sizing. Then I trim, chamfer & debur with the Henderson and then afterwards put through a neck sizing die which is set up to not affect the shoulder only the neck. It would be nice if someone sold different sized mandrels replacements for the trimmer heads based on caliber and final neck tension after using bushing or expander mandrel.

For precision stuff, which I don’t shoot very often these days, I use the Hornady case prep system. It’s slow but works for me. I do a lot more handgun shooting the last couple of years, that or AR15s, so bulk loading is my thing now. Unfortunately for me, I’m a paraplegic, so even though I’m using progressive presses I can’t load a hopper with cases so it runs a bit slower than it should. If you have any solutions for those of us that lack an ability to reach heights required for something like Dillon’s hopper I’d love to hear them

Sinclair sells a caliber specific item that will give you the max case length for YOUR gun. You'll have to sacrifice a case by trimming the neck way back and inserting this item. Closing the bolt will push it back at the point of nominal (SAAMI) dimension. Sinclair still reccommends using the official case length. In my 260 rem, the tool measures +.008" over the 2.035" SAAMI spec. Nice to know I won't be pinching bullets at max length.

L.E. Wilson with the power head adapter all the way. No variation in trim lengths of my 7mm brass, Peterson. When preparing brass, I'm not out to run a foot race. Referring to the tortoise and the hair. Consistency is the name of the game which leads to precision.

No where near your precision reloading as I’m relatively new to reloading but after many videos and reviews, I went with the LE Wilson hand trimmer. So far it seems super accurate and repeatable but not really fast, small batches only so speed is no big deal yet. After that I just use a RCBS prep center for chamfer, debur and brushing the inside. Keep up the great videos and instructions.

Why not mention the LE Wilson setup? I am using that with a power adaptor. Very consistent and smooth process. Does not beburr/chamfer so that needs to be done separately though. But for a 1/4 of the price over a Henderson unit, I'll take that.

Started with a Forster about 43 yrs ago, still have it, still like it. I have tried a few different trimmers, Hornady, RCBS Trimpro 2, Hornady case prep/trim center, didn't like any of them. The only saving grace on the Hornady trim/prep ctr is the prep ctr on it, I made a mistake buying that POS. Don't like the shell holder setup on Hornady, maybe I'm just too used to the Forster, but, the Hornady one does roll around and has to be reset , which bugs me. Don't like the "unversal" setup on the RCBS Trimpro 2 shellholder either after trying it, it needs to be adjustable, and it isn't. A few yrs back I picked a 21st Century neck turner, then the lathe pcs for it, then the 3way trim setups for it, it works really well, no beefs, it works really well. That was over 6-7 yrs, probably cost me same as Henderson. Also have a 3way trimmer head for the Forster, works fine by me. I looked hard at Henderson, Giraud, Wilson about 8-9 yrs ago, had to buy a lot of custom stuff for them at the time, added up to too much loot for my tastes, and weren't as versatile as 21st Century was , for me. The first couple of versions, Henderson used Forster made cutters, and they didn't make everything I needed back then, still don't, even with the new cutters.

For my own information, would the shoulder to neck reference not be more suitable for accuracy since it directly influences how much time it takes the bullet to exit the case? I realize they are both important, just curious if one is more important than the other.

Ok, so I have a rather specific question here regarding trimming. There are two sides to the trimming topic here. One side is to trim it short of SAAMI, and the other is to measure the overall length of your specific chamber, and then trim to about .006 short of that length. The reason is to have the longest neck possible, and to help eliminate the formation of a carbon ring. Ok so here's my question. In my particular rifle, I used the Sinclair chamber length gauge and found the actual max length of my chamber. Right now the length of that is about .038 longer than my longest piece of brass after 5x firings. This length is also about .040 longer than SAAMI max. With that being the case, excluding consistency as that is the most important part, no need to debate or argue on that. Can a cartridge neck (6.5prc Lapua) even grow that long if I were to just not trim at all and only chamfer for better seating? With this much gap between my chamber (custom) and SAAMI max, how does one decide on where to set the overall length of your case?

You didn't go into the adjustments for this trimmer! And from what I can see is an allen bolt, not very high tec on adjustments. I am on my second RCBS case trimmer and it does a nice job trimming my brass needs, and it has nice adjustment marks.

I've owned a Lyman lathe style for years and still use it for pistol brass but I just found the Ugly annealer case trimmer and found it fast and easy and I'm measuring all trimmed cases to less than a .001 of each other. Usually less than .0005" but then I've got to inside and outside chamfer. I do that with a Milwaukee cordless screw driver and Sinclair tools.

so what does all this mean if I am not concerned with precision? I reload primarily for my milsurp rifles due to the cost of factory ammo now being a dollar per round for most of them now and all I really care about is that the round goes bang when i want them to and that the bullet lands somewhere on a man sized target.

yes, you should not be trimming a case ever before sizing as the brass grows from the sizing process squeezing it back to size. That brass will make the case longer overall.

I think you’d be surprised by the amazing consistency of the Henderson (Gen3). If you really try hard enough, your technique can introduce a bit of inconsistency, but it’s built strong enough that normal operation will not cause flexing of the parts. Also, referencing the overall length makes it super easy/quick to verify (the same verification on the Giraud is a bit more time consuming since it’s referencing off the shoulder datum). Also, changing cartridge cases is very inexpensive on the Henderson for those reloading for more than one cartridge.
