In the first course athletes had to pass several envirohurdles, then scale a wall, and leap over two gaps. Finally they were faced with a 16 foot gap over foam with several options to clear. A fifteen second time penalty was added to the athletes time if they fell into the pit of foam!

Why is everyone losing their hats over "Oh this isn't real parkour, this is NOT what David Belle worked for, parkour doesn't have competitions." Who the hell cares? its a friendly competition, its not like they are all a bunch of ignorant meat-headed jocks worried about demolishing their opponents. They are happy! The entire time. They even hug and shake hands. Because they realize and appreciate the skill their opponents have brought to the table and the hard work that came with acquiring that skill. The free runners I practice with perform training exercises that are very similar to these games DURING TRAINING. "Who can run the best time through these obstacles?" ect. ect. So just, seriously, save your comments. These guys bust their ass at home training every single day and then some douche nugget on the RU-vid comment section is going to try and degrade basically his entire art. The free runner is getting paid to do what he loves to do. For a long time it was probably just a dream. One that the free runner busted his ass for, and now he/she does it every single day FOR A LIVIING.

Big difference. That’s something I learned today. Free running is about looking cool efficiently. Parkour is about getting around efficiently.

The course should've been longer. When it's as short as this, there is very little room for error or improvement. With just a slightly longer course; athletes would have more obstacles to scale either better or worse than the others, making for more interesting times and runs.

The fact that the "dedicated structures" pre-existed the competition is important. The space was adapted for contest usage, and regardless of whether it happened in the gym or outside, a fixed, long-term series of obstacles is required for the early stage of the sportification process. The fact that the competition took place in a ‘dedicated’ space has more to do with convenience, liability, and community building than with ‘unnaturalness,’ which I assume would be your point.

I'm not thinking about what he was trying to get being the fastest, whether was fun or trophy . Yeah, that's a thin line between quick, efficient, and safety, that it's really hard to understand, being a new sport and such, but yet it' really important, I don't even know if I understand this well, I can be wrong here. It's was a hard decision for the judges. But as The FreeRunning grows, we'll have more studies about the discipline, and those questions are going to become more clear for everyone
@allan2oo7
@allan2oo7 11 лет назад
I know, and it was really impressive, and I really see your point. But he could got hurt there, imagine giving a medal for someone injured. I don't know if that goes with the goal of not being only strong, but staying strong, maybe that rule can go beyond of the touch the green paper, or he can do the course with perfection or he should find other ways, like the guy who climb the roof, that Parkour has. Anyway, just something to think about.
@Teghead
@Teghead 11 лет назад
I think he was just chilled lol, it's his french swagger. That was just a little before filming multiple action films, doing workshops in Germany, and visiting America and Canada again where he did a bunch of Parkour (and famously bailed on camera). There's *rumours* & stories he's done big drops that haven't been filmed, like from the top to the 'cave' of dame du lac. Anyway the guy is an enigma, I'd like to know how screwed his body is which is why I asked.

Should have a pressure plate on the starting wall. Lots of false starts in here.
@OllisonDElitavrilMZBian
@OllisonDElitavrilMZBian 11 лет назад
Also, the main point of this competition was to have fun and get some pros together, none of the athletes aimed for a trophy, I'm sure that Brandon didn't fall because he tried hard to win, however accidents do happen... Anyways what my point is that, he did eventually get the fastest time, and I'm sure that all of the athletes respect his time, if they've be given him penalty, then things would have been more complicated, and again, he did smash the course, he was the fastest from A to B...

I may have overstated this. I was actually referring to 2007 footage of him in New York. His posture is awful and his gait looks rather unhealthy aswell. Seeing as you've been in this longer than I have I assume you've already seen the footage when it was new and didn't take away the same thing? It just seems to me that he is working against his body rather than with it.

Ill be your audio guy next time. The audio in this video is a little hard to understand. You could take a split from the mixer and run it into a recorder for better audio quality. Alternatively, you could mic up near the speaker and record that through the camera if it has audio input capability.

I mean... I'm not exactly a fan of competition either, and I strongly believe parkour/ ADD/ freerunning/ whatever is best practiced in the greatest variety of environments possible, but that doesn't mean this not parkour. I mean people claim that David Belle's definition of parkour is anti-competition and anti-parkour specific parks but the fact that he himself is designing a "parkour city" and is in favor of parkour in the olympics kind of ruins that whole argument.

he is right, parkour isn't about that, be the best or the faster, and don't you see as competition make things dangerous, the tried jump to many far for them, if they tried that in real condition, they were death, so, I think parkour is not that we just saw, and call this video parkour do not respect the reals parkour values...
