I cannot understand how someone dislikes this video. Your art is so lovely, I wish I was that talented! I'll try your technique this week - I was thinking about giving the painting to my mum for mothers day if I'm successful! Thank you for inspiring me!
Betty you have a beautiful gift as well as beautiful Hands. God lead me to watch this because I was ready to stop painting because of pain in my hands, and facing surgery. God bless you:)
Hi Penny! I wish you well on your hand surgery with a great outcome! Not sure how well you can see my hands and fingers, but they are somewhat bend and crippled with arthritis. I refuse to let it stop me from painting.....and I know you will be painting again too! Best wishes on your surgery!
Comment from Linda Schenck...Beautiful. I really enjoyed watching and I like the way you kept the loose feeling even after you added detail. Thanks for sharing.
Bravo! Gorgeous work of art! What a fantastic tutorial Bette and so very inspiring. Your music selection was terrific! All three magical components came together for this masterpiece!
Bette , my son and I watched in amazement from start to finish. We were in awe watching you paint, stroke by stroke. God blessed you with immense talent. So very proud of you!! Keep up the awesome work, dear friend. Natalie
Bette, I am just beginning in this amazing world of watercolor... and you simply amaze me!!! Watching you on Episode 1... I absolutely love the passion you share!!!!! what a special gift you have... and I thank you for sharing it! Truly! There is a quote by Nita Engle... Because watercolor actually moves on the paper, it is the most active of all mediums... almost a performance art! I can tell you, as do I, love to see the magic that happens... watercolor pigment meeting water on paper... sheer madness!!! Beautiful madness that is! Thank you for inspiring me to be brave!!! Blessings and then some! gloria
Thank you, Gloria! I just now found your comment and it is much appreciated. Watercolor truly is an amazing medium with never-ending beautiful surprises. Best wishes!
Ulla Zita Kring Thank you, Ulla! I painted very realistically for many years and got so bored with it. It has taken many more years to learn to loosen up....not an easy thing to do! I think the looser style of painting really showcases the beautiful fluidity of watercolor, unlike any other medium.
Amazing and Love are the two words for you, your technique, colours, painting and background music !! I love you for making this a bit easier for a lazy person like me :) All my best regards for you and your Art . Looking forward for more simple yet fantastic techniques :)
Bette, this is absolutely the most beautiful watercolor painting!!! I absolutely Love this style! I hope one day I can make something almost as beautiful as your painting. I am a absolute beginner I will have to try something soon. Thank you Bette for sharing your talents. Sincerely Rosalinda
Rosalinda Salas Thank you, Rosalina!! If you would be interested, I will be doing an online loose watercolor course for beginners in a couple weeks. For more information, you can email me at bette@betteorr.com.
Barbara Barger Thank you Barbara! I do work fast, but not quite this fast....lol! This video is speeded up 3x so viewers don’t get bored watching a long video.
Bette, Hydrangeas are my favorite flowers, and I just love your painting of them! I'm new to watercolor and have watched lots of youtube videos, and I think you are the first artist who has used fresh squeezed paint instead of paint that is rewetted in a palette! Is this the way you usually paint? It makes so much sense to me to get more vibrant colors, etc, that I can't believe I've never tried it!
Barbara Verser Thank you! Yes, I usually do paint this way as you can see from my other videos. I love using lots of juicy color and water to exploit color!
Mildred Grey Hi Mildred! Thank you, and so glad you enjoyed! If you liked this video, be sure to see my other hydrangea demonstration, and my other videos. Please give this a LIKE and SUBSCRIBE! Thanks so much!
I am recently retired and beginning watercolor classes. I enjoyed watching and learning from your techniques. How long have you been painting? You are so talented. Thank you for the demonstration.
Carmen Alma I have been painting 20+ years. I just recently presented my first online course, Spontaneous Watercolor Florals. You can check it out on my website at www.betteorr.com. I teach the way I paint.....loose watercolor thats stress-free and fun! There is a trailer for the course here on my RU-vid channel.....and also another painting demo you may enjoy. Be sure to “Subscribe” as there are more demos to come! Glad you enjoyed the painting!
Bette, I LOVED this demo! I'm from RI, live in Denver, and was one of the lucky few Colordoians who were able to grow a successful bush in our yard. I clicked on your above link to gets "tips for loose watercolor" but it said it was an error, couldn't be found. Elsewhere possible? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS GORGRGEOUS PAINTING! Fanna Turano
Hi Fanna! So sorry about the link.....not sure what was wrong as I have sent out a lot of the tips. I te-entered it and it seems to be fine now. Give it another try and please let me know it there’s still a problem. Thanks for letting me know!
Really gorgeous this is more like I WOULD paint, just starting but love the free form....would also love to know what brushes you are using..it's a couple of different ones correct?
Maryanne Sullivan Maryanne Sullivan Hi Maryanne......thanks so much! I used a #10 round and 5/8” flat slanted, and switched to a #4 round to finish leaf details. If you would be interested, I currently have two online watercolor courses listed under in the video.
Hi Bette! Thank you for fixing this. SOOOO beautiful! I've new to wc--a year now, and am utterly perplexed on leaves. I paint loose also, big brushes, lots of water, but for the life of me, I cannot produce a successful leaves or greenery? Do you have a photo to work from, a picture? How do marvelous painters like you figure that out? Does that come in time? I've been working on glass the last 2 days with decent success, but greenery continues to evade me. I just LOVE your hydrangea! Thank you for posting it! Oh, btw, did you also paint some snow paintings? For some reason, your name is familiar. Have a lovely day! Fanna Turano
tont44 Possibly, you are putting too much importance on the foliage. I don’t worry too much about it and just use enough green tones to suggest some foliage to anchor my flowers. Sometimes I just use a couple of swipes of watery green to represent the leaves. Maybe try thinking about it differently!
Hi Pauline....thank you! I used size 2, 8 and 10 round brushes. You can slow down the the video at the 3 tiny dots in a row at the top right corner.....hope that helps!
NotAName If I remember correctly, the deep red is Alizarin, also Quinacridone Red....both watered down to pinks, Cobalt Violet, Sap Green and a Yellow. All colors were mixed back and forth.
Karen Ruggles Hi Karen! I’m sorry to hear you were disappointed. You can always turn the volume off if the music is distracting. This video is a not meant to be a tutorial, so there is no need for instruction. I have watercolor courses available, including one on hydrangeas, if you are interested. In all my courses, I give you full and complete instruction and carefully explain everything as I slowly guide you are step-by-step.....with no background music. The course links are in the description under this video.
