Hmm tried a few other screw extractors for a laptop screw and they didn't work. Decided to get this one and it worked! I put in side A first and started slow and it actually went out the first time without having to use the other side. Maybe the other ones helped but glad it's gone.

I'm bad about reading the detailed instructions. I just looked at the quickie instruction card that says it's as easy as 1. drill out, 2. flip bit, 3 extract. In number 1 drill out it doesn't mention putting drill in REVERSE, as would be done using a regular drill bit, although if you look carefully you can seethe little arrow on the drill bit is counter clockwise. Seems to me that would have been spelled out and maybe others have done the same thing. I did not notice the littler counter clockwise arrow and drilled with high pressure (clockwise) and just barely made a dimple not deep enough to use the extractor side. I used a regular drill bit in my drill which you must use in clockwise motion of course, and that was what I and most others that had to do this was used to. Then I used the Speedout bit in reverse as would normally be done with any screw extractor and it worked.

Have a Fisher and Paykel top loader gas dryer that was making a screeching noise due to a bad bearing. The M5 allen bolt on the inside of the drum was frozen and I ended up rounding it so that nothing would work to get it out. Went to Lowe's and bought a SpeedOut kit and ended up using the largest of the extractors and followed the instructions to the letter. Reamed it first with the drill in reverse to at least 1/16" of an inch into the bolt and then flipped the bit and used the extractor. The 1/2" drill I was using didn't have the power to turn the bolt (only to bite the bit into the bolt), so I clamped on a Vise-Grips locking pliers to the extractor bit and gave it a very slow, hard turn. And sure enough, I heard a snap and that bolt came loose. The extractor was into the bolt deep enough so that the heavy 1/2" drill I was using was literally hanging from it, but it didn't have the torque to do break the bolt. But, the SpeedOut did do the job. Consider me impressed with the tool. It may not work in all circumstances, but it is definitely something to have in the toolkit when all else fails. For $10 and a trip to Lowe's, it saved the day.

The problem I see with this video is we don't know just how tight those screws were in the wood. There was no paint on them, no rust. Wonder how it REALLY works on the screws that are in actual distress.

the speedout isn't completely useless. i had to use a drill bit i had on hand to get anywhere through the screw's head for the speedout to work which essentially makes this tool functionally the same as a screw extractor which you can buy for something like 1/4 of the price. you're better off with a quality drill bit that'll get through metal and matching screw extractor sizing to use afterwards from my experience.

Sorry for the delay. I had the broken water pump bolt soaking all week. I just tried the Speed Out Pro and it was an epic failure. It hardly cut into the bolt and the extractor end just smoothed out the hole. It didn't bite into the bolt one bit. Now I don't know if I want to purchase a real bolt extractor or just drill the broken bolt out and tap the hole. Regardless I need to get this bolt out so I have a plow vehicle for the winter. Speed Out Pro vs broken engine block bolt = FAIL.

With a standard extractor after drilling the hole you hammer in the extractor(for solid grip) then use the extractor in a t-handle slowly and carefully.they also tend to have more aggressive patterns for griping the screw than these speed outs. I have been wanting to test the speed out but doubt it's effectiveness for these reasons.
@DrMattCole
@DrMattCole 8 лет назад
Speed out works but you need to know what you are doing. I'd have to say from personal experience that the trick to speed out is to use a lot of downward pressure and to run your drill as slow as possible in reverse (yes, speed out is designed for reverse drill action).

I bought the Titanium version to remove two rusted over screws on my Maytag dryer - the ones you need to remove to access the inside of the dryer to replace a broken belt. UNFORTUNATELY for me mine was a total FAIL. I used an 18 volt cordless driver. The side A bit was unable to penetrate the screw.

@CitrusCountyBeatnik
@CitrusCountyBeatnik 5 лет назад
@@faiyafire6633 Upon advice of a contractor at Home Depot I bought a $2.50 cobalt drill bit. The object is to drill away the core of the screw's head, and knock off the head . Then I could remove the dryer's top and access the remainder of the screw from underneath, the remove it with vice grips. I don't know what the hell those screws are made of - kryptonite, depleted uranium....I'm still working ion it. If I can't get them out, I'll have to buy a new dryer.

what if the head of the screw broke off because it was rusted?
@Gavedissian
@Gavedissian 2 года назад
Good information if you are trying to remove newly installed screws and not old rusted ones. I wasted my time trying to remove #9x3" rusted deck screws, and then realized that these extractors are designed to work on screws smaller than 2" inches based on the following note "can become damaged if extracting large screws or bolts exceeding 2" inches in length and/or those with aggressive threads" found inside the box on the instructions sheet. My so called titanium coated bit tips are now damaged and won't drill into the screw heads... I did not even find any details inside the box for the free replacement as mentioned on the back of the box with their "Lifetime Performance Guarantee"!

My screw head is stronger than the extractor. Tried for half an hour. First it was slipping nonstop, eventually got it to go a tiny bit applying enormous force but wouldn’t drill far enough to extract. Straight to the trash bin.

If you have a stripped dryer screw, don't bother with speed out, as it probably will not work. I used a nut driver (after wasting 15.00$ on Speedout), and had it out in seconds. Interestingly enough, I went to home depot for a nut driver, and an employee said it wouldn't work, and sold me on Speed out. Luckily, a few days later I found the correct nut driver at home and it worked. I was so happy because I sure didn't want to buy another dryer.

$14 bucks at Lowes but it wouldn't extract a rusted silcock screw rusted in metal. It just spun and spun like nobody's business. Sprayed some WD40 on the exposed threads: FAIL!
