Man that looks wicked parked up in the sun, the new triumph badge really pops. Glad you're keeping the wheels black. Can't wait to pick mine up in 3 weeks.
Good choice, black looks best in my opinion. I've never been a bronze gold wheel fan, too glitzy for me I suppose. Seriously, you should be a narrator for documentaries your voice is soothing and a pleasure to listen to. I enjoy all of your videos!
Excellent decision! I like the stock black rims! But, if not for the exorbitant cost and I just had to paint them, I like your bronze choice. But, as I said, I like the black the best. Take care and ride safe my friend!
I have a little CB300R in dark matte blue. I've been toying with the idea of having the gas tank panels painted in a darker gloss blue, and your BMW color is fantastic. Not a fan of matte finishes either. My bike has bronze colored wheels, which really set off the look - I think they'll look great on your bike. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hey RM, i just got my triumph ordered and will be here next month. ive been going through countless mods i wanted and your vids have helped a lot. Thanks! I have always been a fan of black and gold bikes so i have been struggling with finding a good balance as well. Im planning on blacking out the bike and doing gold highlights here and there
Thanks. I have considered stripes/decals, but have yet to find a colour/design that really appeals😊

I do prefer them black... but if you are feeling adventurous... plastidip the rim to see how it looks like? in theory it is removable. I plastidiped my rims black... it is holding together real fine. Not showroom perfect, but it works.
I think you made the right choice ( at that price ) around 250 euros, and I think I would have changed the wheels to bronze, or even gold. However, I think the MG V100 looks great in the colour in your video, so we're, probably, miles apart in taste.
OMG i new it was too good to be true & I'm on about the quote for the wheels to be painted no wonder that made up your mind as it would me too!! 🙄 Nice little update RocketMan!! 👌🏻👍🏻
@@RocketMan_Moto They won't get much business carrying on with quotes like that though or should I say two quotes one well cheap and the other ridiculous!! 🙄 Would maybe be another option but get the outside of the wheels wrapped just another suggestion? 😁👍🏻
If it were mine, I'd be wanting the wheels powder coated - not painted. So add new wheel bearings to the cost. Then I would be losing that gold chain because it would look crass against the bronze - more cost. The bike is fine as it is. Take the 500 and enjoy yourself :)
Glad you took the right decision. It is absolutely lovely as it is. Now that’s sorted, what luggage options would you opt for if you wanted to go on a ten day tour on the bike? Leather saddlebags, a temporary rack with topbox? It may not be to your taste, but if you absolutely had to fit luggage…?
Thanks, Stephen. If I had to fit luggage, I would go for SW Motech Blaze Pro side bags. They may not be quite big enough for a 10-day trip, but as we all know, fitting a top case to a Speed Twin is completely illegal on aesthetic grounds :)
That looked like a convincing photoshop in the video ! I thought you'd done it !!!! I think you made the correct choice. This side of some huge lottery win, I'm guessing for you money is not "no object". That's 420 Euros for something else bike related. Like when you get bored of the Speed Twin !
Yes, my son did the Photoshop for me. It was very convincing. Not sure I'll ever get bored of the ST... unless Triumph bring out a Mark 2 with another 40hp :)
@@RocketMan_Moto Awesome ! If Triumph shove a 1050 to 1200cc 130 -> 140 BHP triple in something that looks like a Speed Twin, has a quick shifter , and handles like the new Speed Triple, well they could sell me one of them . I don't need 178 BHP !
@@RocketMan_Moto I think I've said something similar on the countless surveys Triumph send me , because I've bought a couple of their bikes in the last 3 years !
I really think keeping the black wheels makes for a much better look. If you really want to add more colour, I would go for something completely different, no colour which is already on the bike. But then maybe you should do not only the rhims, but also other parts of the bike. And maybe have the Union Jack painted on the tank in that very same shade of colour, whichever you choose. Sure that will be much more expensive, but IMO you then went the whole nine yards.
I have never and never will customise a motorcycle. It is money down the drain. I just ride them, without gripping the tank. Back to the Algarve in a couple of weeks. Can't wait.
in my view , the tank looks great , its also dark enough without adding more black in the form of knee pads ,, if the paint job is good then allow it to fully harden and protect with a top end polish . as for the ohlins = the average rider would not get the best from these . the mistake people make is to bolt on these high end bits and know nothing about them ;;; buying and fitting is just the start ,= the shocks would have to be set up to your riding style to get any benefit at all , = then as you progress reset or re built to suit . waste of money unless your the best track day rider out there .... bike looks smart ..
@@RocketMan_Moto as you can see - i am pretty well opinionated , its just for fun and any help i can give as i own up to making all the wrong decisions myself ,. thats what life is about ,. but back to serious stuff = as you may have seen from my older comments i do not like dark coloured bikes as they are hard to keep clean . but i think you have got it bang on with yours ;; not so much mud there .;;
How about rim tape? Cheaper than paint by far, less of a presence yet providing some color accent and easily removed if not liked. Could be a decent compromise, though I think there's something gimmicky about tape.
Best left black . Would love to share a few photos of my 2023 Speed Twin with mods ( I think you would approve ) , but can’t find a way to do so . Cheers, David Bodden ( ocayman )
Yes, I'm glad I have kept the wheels black. Unfortunately, AFAIK, there's no way for viewers to post pictures in these comments, unlike on Facebook, for example. Pity. Ride safe :)
Just about to buy my Speed Twin, trader in my R/S Speed Triple , did you consider the dresser bars ( crash bars). Thanks you so much for your video. Enjoy them self much. New prescriber.
I wouldn’t bother with crash bars. The Speed Twin is quite a small bike and very easy to hold up between your legs. Crash bars can amplify vibrations and if I do crash, I’ll be more worried about my own body than the tank on my bike😊
Yes, your decision after a lot of analysis, to me, has been the right one. Please, take in consideration that the colors like, gray, dark grey, Matt grey, Silver, bronze, brown, light brown, etc, are neutral colors that go along with more bold colors, open colors, giving a visual effect of movement when applied in alternation in a regular sequence with the more lively color which is the dominant one, in the object. They are as well called, transition colors, or rhythm colors. So, often their presence with the described function and nature, really work, and look good. The conflict emerges, when we try using more than one transition tone, or color in between the dominant one (and the latter should be only one color, too - as it is the case). It looks immediately weird and unattractive, confusing. That’s why the bronze rims were hurting the blue new paint job, they were getting a relevance and a central place in the whole aesthetic arrangement. Result, that was not wanted by the bike`s owner. I give you one example of a paint job, not too well thought by Triumph (in my humble opinion): - The 2022 thruxton ton up Club Edition. Look at the profusion of too much color elements, the open blue, its ok, but does it goes well with the white mud guard at the front and in black at the rear, under a white seat cowl? (which has what seems to be a sticker, if it isn’t a sticker, looks like it, in red, and the lettering “100” in black inside ? - allusive to the tourist trophy of the Isle of Man when this machine achieved the milestone, running to average speeds at the firs lap of 100mph) too messy, too “look at me! I have a special Edition Bike!”. The bike has an old racing style, a bonneville by Built, design and by technical characteristics. Does it need all that profusion of colors on it? That bike, is a keeper, not only for people on their Eighteens, I believe. It will look well on the race track. I don’t discuss that. But, where else? Cheers 😎✌️✌️
Sorry Rocketman but you're wrong about the XSR900, Z900RS SE or V100 Mandello. In the same way that the leather of your shoes, belt and wrist watch strap don't need to match perfectly the same is true for the color of wheels, forks and other parts of a motorcycle. In fact it is impossible to match since textures, alloys, paints and painting methods vary between parts. Matching perfectly leather of shoes, belt and watch comes across as trying too hard. You want a cohesive look and the XSR900, Z900RS SE and V100 Mandello are 3 examples of a great cohesive painting scheme.
@@RocketMan_Moto I don't particularly like the look of the fairings of the Mandello. And there is one color detail of it that I don't understand. The orange under the dynamic fairings. Otherwise, and as is usual with Italian bikes, I'm sure the Mandello will be striking in person. I love the traditional Guzzi green and silver with the gold wheels. But I love gold wheels in general, on bikes and cars.
Do you mean the half Union Flag? They’re on AliExpress, but unfortunately they’re only available in silver or gold. I ordered silver, but found it too bright. I’m working on a custom matt anthracite version😊
I'm a big believer that people should be paid a fair wage in general, but, €420 is twice what I would have expected to pay to end up with different coloured wheels. :)
I read a few months ago in a French moto magazine that Dymag ‘secretly’ supply Triumph’s wheels, so that was good enough for me. I bought the stickers from eBay. They’re available in many colours, but I thought bright yellow looked the best👍
So: why are you in Portugal? What are you doing for a living and how old are you? Questions over questions… come on, give your community some background!
Plastic lugs on the covers are held to the bike by rubber female clips. You basically just pull the covers towards you, prying the lugs out of the clips.
@@RocketMan_Moto It's basically black but with that tinge of dark blue in the sun light. You don't have that color anywhere else on the bike. Plus, it's only a very subtle difference. Gord
If the bronze wheels match the chain then I would personally do it,bronze not gold and would definitely protect the tank with something but not clear film this would simply change the colour of the tank it’s only money you will be asking yourself what if so just do it.
try otherwise a tape option....stick it on in the colour of you're choice and let it sit for a while...that's the least expensive way of customisation I think....
Well, I just have to go against what seems to be the majority opinion because I absolutely hate black wheels with a passion. Black wheels on bikes or cars do nothing for the looks of the bike/cars and just make the wheels and tyres look like an amorphous blob. I, not long a go bought a Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX in the 2020 colour of white and black as opposed to the ubiquitous green. I had not even ridden it on the road when I removed the wheels, discs and bearings and had them powder coated a very subtle silver with a hint of gold at a powder coating specialist renowned for doing great work, Cost was £230. The bike, in my eyes obviously, looks so much better and does not have what I call the "heavy" look of black wheels and tyres. To my way of thinking, the cost is small beer to what some people spend on fancy exhaust systems and downpipes. As luck would have it, mine came with the factory fit Akropovic carbon can which does look better than the standard "rocket launcher" Black wheels are shit!
Gold or bronze wheels would have been pretty cool. You already put two carbon covers but there was no other carbon parts from factory... It looks weird to me.So, why not only two wheels with their own color. The problem of the speed twin is this full black motor. This is so monotone. And sticking with black wheels doesn't help at all. Unless you like full black style and I can't critisize. That's why I prefer the motor of the thruxton with these nice shiny parts while keeping some black parts... Another option would be to put thruxton spoke wheels on the speed twin. This is really cool. Also the paint job on your tank not finished. It's obvious seeing the side where the side covers should be that a good polishing is needed. That orange peel effect is very disturbing...
The carbon parts replaced the two plastic parts that were different shades of grey. The Thruxton looks great, but it's literally a pain in the neck to ride ;)
