All models were used in 13th episode of Animation vs Minecraft Shorts by Alan Becker. You can check the finished animation here: • The Dolphin Kingdom - ... All music in this video is created by saib. Saib's Soundcloud: / saib_eats
@@spook8068 i didn't say i quit Hyun's Dojo community, but i said that i quit making animations (animation projects to be clear), but i will keep making animations for my games only (as pixel-art).
the absolute dedication for this project is stunning. people could've just use 3d modelling software to make and animate the models but you guys use flash. i see no reason why you would do this, but either way this is really impressive. keep up the good work.
Thank you! We use Animate because modeling will require both modeling and rendering it. And since rendered image is raster and zooming in would spoil the quality, we would need to store a lot of big bitmaps in fla file. Because a lot of people work on Alan Becker's animation, we can't do that because they download/upload/update files a lot. Plus this way provides easy way to create new animations or break models apart and animate them manually when needed.
Not really math, but a bit of draftsmanship. I learned it in my university. Alan used to eyeball the mob models before he gave me the first mob to model. Then he saw that the weird method I use provides much more clean results, so I was in charge of modelling the mobs for a while. Now Able Rai does this job. I taught him a little bit of draftsmanship so he can do that too.
@@mongju_animation making a tutorial for it would be a very time-consuming task. You can look into the basics of engineering drawings. You want to pay attention to the ones that show you three pictures of the same mechanical part from three different angles (top-view, front-view and side-view). They are going to look similar to the drawings I did when modelling the dolphin's fin.
I have a question, again! I'm sorry hehe. Do you have any recommendations for any blender tutorials? Most of the tutorials i have watched until now are too "professional" and complicated. I kind of want my progress to go smoothly.
Unfortunatelly, 3d environment is indeed very complicated. I would recommend the fundamentals tutorial from official Blender's RU-vid channel. The main key of getting used to Blender is constantly trying to do stuff in it. Then you will eventually get used to it's complexity and you will understand what set of tools you shoukd use to achieve what you want.
i'm curious about making 3d like stuff in a 2d animation software due to people saying stuff like "merging 2d and 3d animations are the best type of animation out there" or something. This is an awesome thing to make at the moment.
It is better to make 2d-like stuff in 3d animation software instead. Or animate 2d on top of rendered 3d background which is a very popular technique. I had to do 3d in 2d software for Alan Becker and trust me: this is not fun. I had to do this because Alan Becker does not want to switch from Adobe Animate to Blender because most of his team will simply drop off because they don't know how to use Blender (and yeah, most of them wouldn't bother to learn how to because the workflow will be entirely different).
@@Shuriken255 i see. Well i cant complain. I understand. Even though its not fun, i find this to be a new technique which i havent seen before, but if you say that its easier to just make 3d stuff by those following techniques, then i could try using it. I am not good at using 3d stuff at the moment due to the lack of knowledge of how to use blender.
@@Shuriken255 Alright shuriken, i believe you. I've just watched Resh's animation documentary and it seems quite useful. I might try learning it if i have time. Thanks for the help.
I have a question, why did you rotate the fin_back outline in 1:47-1:48. It seemed like it helped you with the fin movement, but its questionable for me. Please answer if you have free time. I'd gladly appreciate it.
First, I rotated it on the top view (which is the top-left on this 2x2 square). Then I adjusted changes on the side view (top-right part of 2x2 square) and made adjustments to the top view to match it. The reason why I had to do the second rotation is because dolphin's fin is rotated by two axis which is the trickiest type of a limb rotation to deal with. Gladly, this fin is the only one hard case I had to deal with manually. I wrote scripts that calculate all rotations and place sides of the cube automatically.
@@unom2169 had to switch from "Zozo game" to another project that is currently under the NDA. I was hired as a programmer to work on it and I feel it is a bigger opportunity for me as a game programmer due to how much support this project has compared to "Zozo game" (which is only developed by me).
@@Shuriken255 Well whatever that project is, i wish you have a good time with programming. I know that animating was a pain for you, but im sure you've moved on from it and forgotten about it. i mean sure, games need animations as well, but i don't think that gives more pain than you had before. But overall, i want to see you grow from a great animator to an excellent person! I support you whether you don't animate or not. You made an animation for your fiance, despite the fact you quit animation. You made several zozo game dev logs worth about a least a day of work. I am looking forward to your next content, man.
Not the way i expected. I wanted to visit my father in Crimea but had a surgery and didn't recover from it yet. Doctor says i will probably have to have a second one. ;-; How is your's, tho?
