Honestly this game would NOT work without Kim. Everyone I've ever talked to about this game loves Kim, and says that they didn't want to dissapoint him. The game is partly about people needing to move on from their pain and their pasts, everyone in Martinaise is scarred by their history, the streets itself still scarred by the revolution. Having Kim there judging you is an execellent way to make the player WANT to do better, to be better, to fit into the game's theme.

@@zachall1573 Disco Elysium takes a political stance, when it comes down to it, through Kim: you can be whatever you want, you can be a communist, you can be an ultraliberal, you can be a "moralist" aka centrist, you can be a racist and a fascist, and the game never punishes you for it. But Kim doesn't like it when you choose to be racist/fascist, and only a monster would want to disappoint Kim Kitsuragi

​@@pabloc8808 Its actually an astounding way to make the game not feel preachy. They made Kim a full character. Flaws and quirks and a personality like 90 percent of people like Then they use game mechanics and dialogue to make you the player connect with Kim. Humanising him. That tugs on empathy and our tendency to pack bond. Boom bam. Perfect way to get the message that _your actions and opinions have consequences_ across Its like the difference of a stranger telling you theyre disappointed with you vs. a close friend telling you theyre disappointed in you

@@elvingearmasterirma7241 Exactly, it's the game's way of showing it's not just a thought experiment, what you do and say has consequences in the real world and affects real people. Or, as the dialogue outside the church can go: "If it's just words, then why do you say them?"

I've failed the ladder and the sewer entrance tasks, got the children of the sea task but when I talk to them I get nothing. I think I am looking at a glitch.

you have to fail twice when inspecting the feld mural, which prompts the shivers white checks, which is BEFORE you climb the ladder and open the door. Gotta try again on an earlier save or another playthrough.
