Horses are a real challenge to paint! They have rounded surfaces and other considerations which make preparing them particularly difficult. Fortunately though, Speedpaints, which are incredible for wargaming, dioramas, and scale models, also work extremely well on horses. In this video turorial, I detail my fast and easy method for painting horses using a colour underpainting method that also looks great. Painting mounts is a vital skill for virtually all types of miniature gaming including historicals, Napoleonics, Lord Of the Rings, 40k and Warhammer. Please sit back relax, check it out and remember to subscribe!
If you like miniature wargaming of any type including Warhammer, 40k, dioramas, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), Black Powder, napoleonics, historicals and Bolt Action, I suggest you watch as this video.

Thanks for this. I've played around with various levels of chop, but other than swapping in some non-white colours for the final "chop" (light gray, ivory, tan) I haven't gone as far as as non-gray or white colours for the whole chop. I'll have to try that.

Give it a shot. On large flat surface models the colour under painting really helps.

question, when your miniatures are painted you are always left with this dusty stippled finish , what is it that you are doing that achieves this end result ? great video cheers

Hi it is likely because I am dry brushing quite a lot and I am not pre moistening my bristles. Recently I have switched to using mig dio dry brush paint in an attempt to deal with this.

I can't help to notice your figures look very powdery.

that is a combo of just the style i paint an the amount of dry brushing i have been using recently combined with speed paints. I have an episode coming up where I try to deal with this.

It's because the undercoat is too dark. Contrast paints work with medium to light grey or white

Well based on the results I understand, though I can see the odd use for it.

I loathe painting horses. I therefore have a lot of infantry heavy armies :)
