I love that you speedrun this on the N64 too. This port is so impressive that i'm amazed everytime i see footage of it or play it myself. It's just crazy that Factor 5 was able to fit a 2 CD's game (around 1.4 Gb) onto a 32Mb Cartridge with quite a few improvements except for textures and audio samples. I wonder which version you prefer in terms of speedrunning but also in terms of a regular playthrough :)
It's hard to say which version is better for regular play. The N64 controls with its analog stick for movement is vastly superior to PC's tank controls and all the menus look great but PC offers more crisp visuals in-game, free quicksaves and most importantly locked 60 FPS. The performance on the N64 is sadly appalling in the last ~6 levels (for reasons I touch on in the video). For a speedrun though, the N64 version wins by a longshot though because you can skip so much. The N64 version also has faster animations for all the regular movement as well like jumping, block pushing and ladder climbing. Even though the out of bounds launches in Volcano and Nub's Tomb can be frustrating sometimes, the PC version is just too damn long. And, of course, if you don't care about having a top time, you can choose to not do the launches and go for a route that's more fun (and it's only slower by 20 minutes max).
This was awesome. Would love to see one for the PC, I know it's long though. Maybe a cut-down edited version with highlights of different mechanics used in interesting places
4:44 That velocity based damage is kind of interesting because that might be a holdover from the SITH engine and the way it calculated damage. If you ran too fast with force speed or force jumped into a ceiling, you would take damage or die. Similarly, I discovered a trick for Infernal Machine on PC where you backwards roll off a ledge and Indy's velocity is reset once the animation finishes and you don't take damage given that the fall from that reset point isn't too high.(I think there are other animations that can cancel your momentum in the air) Interesting.
They had to rush the N64 version of Indiana Jones and the infernal machine and make it before Christmas wow no wonder all of the levels are so glitchy and the people don't open and close their mouths when they talk
Hey, how did you do the Babylon skip? I don't seem to have enough time to pull out the whip, so when I fall out of bounds I can't go back to the ground :(
To pull out the whip, you to press the button only after you stand up from the crawl position but before you start falling. Once you manage to equip the whip, you gotta hold Z to be able to swing it and then it's just about timing the swing to get back inbounds.
