I checked with this program to see if what courses from my AA would transfer and knocked out 10 courses + some with my certs, I’m definitely doing it pretty soon
I think its very important to mention that you can only transfer in a max of 75% of the credits out of the total required for the degree. The remaining must be taken at WGU. So you may take more than you can transfer in if you aren't careful.
You're absolutely correct I forgot to mention that. I'll put it in the description and also update my spreadsheet to inform new students. I appreciate the heads up!
@@kevingaray_cyberguy Thanks for the quick response. Enjoyed your video. Found you through @JoshMadakor, You, him and @UnixGuy are helping me get the ball rolling towards starting at WGU in CyberSecurity. Thanks for all the hard work.
@@maaxsolarpower no it means avoid transferring more than 75% of the total credits of the program. So you have to complete at least 25% of the program WITHIN wgu.. so me for example, I believe I transferred in about 55-60% of the total credits.
@Kevin Garay - Cybersecurity yeah I had to switch majors and I completed so many gen Ed classes I cannot just transfer in Calc 1 from Sophia now. I'm a bit bummed as the compsci degree is the most sought out IT degree in my state. The BS SE and BS IT are not as prestigious. I also find comptia certs not the most helpful in the job market compared to CCNA or other certs.
Achieving your goals often comes down to three key factors: Free Time: It's true, having ample free time makes a significant difference. Using your vacation and sick days wisely to dedicate more time to your goals, especially if balancing work, family, and other responsibilities, can be crucial. Determination: Starting is the easy part; it's maintaining momentum when faced with tougher challenges that truly tests your determination. It's absolutely possible, but it requires consistent effort and perseverance. Trust me, I've been there. Taking Breaks: This is crucial for your mental well-being. Even just 15 or 30 minutes can make a world of difference in recharging your batteries and maintaining focus. Additional tip: Creating a spreadsheet to track your courses, as mentioned in the video, is incredibly helpful. It keeps you organized and motivated as you see your progress laid out before you. Trust me, it really does make a difference. Keep pushing forward, and you'll achieve more than you ever thought possible!
much thx, basically just ended my decade+ career in the culinary world and need a new path to go on and sadly I'm missing a degree, so this gives me a path that won't take years to achieve.
Hey! Thanks for the comment. Let me see if I can grab the pathway that my mentor set up for me. It also depends on the level of experience and knowledge you're starting with.
@@CybrOppHey sorry for the late reply, it's been a busy weekend. But it looks like I no longer have access to the degree plan on my WGU profile so I listed out the classes I took in order. Keep in mind that the curriculum I took last year is pretty different than the new one. After I transferring credits and certificates this is what I had left and completed it in this order: English Comp II Ethics in Techology Business of IT - Applications Networks Emerging Technologies in Cybersecurity Intro to Cryptography Data Management - Applications Legal Issues in Information Security Managing Information Security Digital Forensics in Cybersecurity Information Systems Security Penetration Testing and Vulnerability Analysis Managing Cloud Security IT Capstone Written Project If I were you, I would first focus on the Core courses to get the fundamentals down, followed by the rest of the courses. :)
I’m interested in only getting the Comptia certs, nothing else. I already have a unrelated degree so I’m not really looking forward “going” to college again anytime soon. My employer, Amazon, pays for a semester so it has got me interested. But, I really don’t want to get the actual degree, and it’s not like I can quit or drop out if get accepted. It’s going to look bad on my transcript if I do.
Take the course, do all your certs and the minimum credits, finish the last cert close to the end of the 6 month term (otherwise they will add on classes). Ask for a 3 month break and then tell them you will withdraw. Your transcripts will only show the credits you did
Honestly that would be kinda difficult because your program mentor will be the one to decide which order you'll be doing your program in. You might get a PM who would be lenient or you might get one that will be stricter and do it in the order that is reccomend.
Hi bro I appreciate your guidance, I just want to ask you a quick question. I have 48 credits from my college with BSc in computer science -concentration on cybersecurity engineering and also i have sec+ certificate. Do you think that will reduce the number of credits that I will take at WGU? or do I have to take some more certifications like pentest+ before i enrolled at WGU to save more credits and time? How many courses will be knocked out if i took pen+ before enrollment? Thank you again!!
Hey sorry for the late response. Your credits should transfer over, if not most of them. Having sec+ will also help you out so you don't need to take Pentest+ before you start (have wgu pay for it lol). Besides, it will only cover one course which is the penetration testing course. However I do suggest studying for it now so that you're prepared sooner.
What is the difference? You didn't finish your degree in 1 term. You spend a lot of time getting those certifications. By the way, tuition at WGU pays for those certifications. really do not get the idea. Also, with online degrees, you can do 50 courses in 1 term if you like
Need Advice! I`m 44 years old. I graduated with a Business Degree and have a Masters in Education. I`m teaching for the last 17 yrs, but desperately wanting a career switch into Business/IT Management/Healthcare/Supply Chain career. Should I go straight into the Competency Based learning such as: MBA in IT in WGU or take Competency Fast Track Bachelor`s in Project Management in UMPI or UMASSGlobal? Any suggestion is welcome! Thanks!
Stats and Algebra were fairly easy! Considering the fact that their exams are open book and non-proctored, you shouldn't have too much of an issue passing 🙂
WGU is legitimate and a well-recognized recognized university and it's just as difficult as a regular school with the main difference being you can go at your own pace. The market is saturated because of many other factors such as cyber being a hot buzz word, people transitioning careers and mass layoffs. Having a degree and certifications helps boost your chances of breaking in. Just because you don't like it doesn't legitimize this program. I'd ask you to educate me but you can't even spell saturated. Regardless though I do wish you the best on your journey.
I don’t get it. Are Boise State University, BYU, University of Utah, University of Idaho, Nevada State University, University of Oregon, University of Portland, and many other colleges not real schools now? Cause they have the same accreditation as WGU.
Hi, since the bs it management from wgu has a business aspect to it would you still recommend it for landing an entry level it job? Also having no experience but a few credible certifications would you also suggest getting an internship while completing the program?
To be accepted into their program? Yea you either need experience or have an IT based certification. The more efficient route would be getting your Google IT Support certification from coursera and it would meet their acceptance requirements!
Yes its up to date with the newest changes. I know that the masters in cybersecurity has changed very recently though but I didn't delve too deep on it this video but I might focus on that degree in a later video.
Hey! So this question gets asked frequently and there's no true answer I can because that's ultimately up to the individual and how much time you put in each day to complete every assignment and schedule each exam. I can tell you 6 months, or I can tell you a year or 2 years. Everyone's schedules are different and so are their personal lives but I can tell you what worked for me to complete it so fast. After submitting all of my transfer credits and seeing the remaining classes I had to complete, I gave myself a deadline for when to complete each class within the 6-month term because that was my goal. Doing the math, the goal was to complete one course every week and I dedicated all of my free time to studying that course. Each time I finished one a few days earlier, it would give me a little bit more time to complete the next class, completing that one early would give me a larger window for the next, and so on. It was a grind though but I was hella dedicated. If you have free time at your job, I'd use it to study or write up your essays which is what I also did. So all in all, I wouldn't ask how long would it take to complete it. Rather, give yourself a time frame and set your schedule up to make it happen :) I hope this helps and good luck!
@@oadegbenoh if that's the case then you can absolutely still transfer! I actually did that when I started 😅 I was in the enrollment process but found out about Sophia and asked to push my start date back a few months ahead. They were cool with it!
@@Kevin-hu1iz would it be safe to say that we can keep transferring in classes as long it’s BEFORE doing the “commit to start documents” part of enrollment? I’m trying to figure out how to know which class I will need from Sophia after transferring in the A.S. Degree. I wanted more time than the one month from WGU’s enrollment time.
Hello! It's possible but it would still be difficult. Maybe 2 terms? Depends on which degree you go for too since some degrees at WGU are easier than others.
I would HIGHLY suggest pregaming the comptia certificates before you attend, even get to the point when you're taking practice exams. That way when you attend WGU, you can crack those classes down in like a week.
Can I do this if I am already admitted and sent my A.S. transcripts? I have a start day in August? looking to knock out as many as I can and potentially shift the start date til September to be as cost-effective as possible.
I had one more question Kevin if you don't mind me asking. Would doing this decrease my access to certifications within WGU cybersecurity B.S ? I noticed it's about 13 certificates. Would you happen to have a class certificate list?
@kevingaray_cyberguy wow thank you so much that spread sheet was thorough only overlap I saw was project +. Thank you for your help and confidence boost! Bless you bro!
I"m planning on starting this year, probably around September. I don't have an IT background but I do already have a bachelors in Business Admin. Any tips on studying for the S+ and A+? I want to try and get those before I start doing classes on SDC/Spohia. I sent in my transcript and waiting to hearback exactly what classes I'll need to take, but hoping to get the degree done in a year. It's also been suggested to me to skip the bachelors, get some certs then jump right into the masters program. Tech is completely new for me after being in HR for 5 years.
