SpeedSim: Let's Discuss SpeedSoft vs. MilSim 

"Milsim needs a dose of speedsoft and speedsoft needs a dose of milsim." Pretty much the moral of this video.

I play paintball and we have very similar problems. I am a speedballer which is the paintball equivalent to speedsofter. According to the milsim players in paintball i play like a dousche. But according to my fellow speedballers i play like any normal speedballer. I personally am fine with getting shot multiple times just like any other speedballer. But almost every single Milsim player i have met has been a pussy about getting shot multiple times

But Andre, as a speedsoft player what is your take on speedsoft allowing improper weapon shouldering of any gun with a stock. there are tons of people who just let it rest on the side of their arm to have it "3 points of contacts".

I agree completely with everything. I play a balance of stealth, tactics, and conservative play with hyper aggressive violence of action. As you said in the video....people seem to shut down when faced with aggression. Sadly my milsim team is mostly Vets, and they play the "don't get killed game". They love and hate me because i disobey orders, and lone wolf some times, but love me b/c i hit so hard and fast force a break in the front line causing the enemy to retreat. Balance is the key...there is a time and place for everything and with experience, you'll know when to turn on the hit, and when to wait for the enemy to get out of position.

As a milsim player speedsoft is very annoying to go against in pick up games but I've tried it and it is fun so I can see why it is done a lot

Speedsoft- Fast paced Competitive Organized Sport like gameplay Milsim- Military Simulation for people who are either Retired Military, Military reenactment enthusiasts (Cause not everyone has what it takes to be a soldier), Active Military/Police, or people who are unable to join the military due to medical disqualification (Past Injuries, Health issues, Etc) Both are 2 Styles of Gameplay that attract alot of people to airsoft, both have their pros and cons.

Maybe it's from personal experience, but it seems that speedsofters are a lot more forgiving and guiding to new or inexperienced players than milsimers.

Hard to say which is better because they're so different. Milsim is LARPing and speedsoft is competitive airsoft. Stop saying one is better than the other, people who think like this is the reason why our sport is dying.

Speedsoft makes airsoft competitive. It lets games have a clear winner and a clear loser. There will be no argument on who won. Speedsoft is fast, less serious, and usually has short rounds. That's why I prefer Speedsoft over Milsim.

Honestly, every type of airsoft styles needs to have some aggressiveness. People who layback too much drive me crazy because it's hard to move up without your team sometimes. Like, what are you doing with a pistol back there, move up! Your not gonna snipe someone from spawn.

I'm a milsim player and I want to play both. I respect both. They are the same sport just different play type. I love both and they are both fun. In my opinion people kind of over exaggerate how people judge speedsofting even though they may have Berber played that style.

Milsim takes things way way way to seriously Speedsoft are to immature But on the same side. Milsim builds team skills Speedsoft helps you push better and become better at agression Milsim needs more speedsoft agression and speedsoft needs more mature teamwork. Nuff said

Realy great video, I personaly like both playstyles. Currently my gear is leaning a bit heavy to the Milsim. But im working on my Speedsoft setup since i found out i prefer that playstyle for indoors. But here in Holland Speedsoft in not so big yet 'Sad Face". Also i have a question for andre can you do a video on what you personaly upgrade on your speedsoft Hi Capa's and are you runing the Prowin 41 rounds or just the extended mags?

Both sides are great and make the sport good other than fucking cheaters I'm a speedsofter and there's nothing wrong with milsim it's just how different people's preferences for there play style sometimes people over shoot but it's not just one of the sides

I think it's kind of dumb that there's a difference you guys are all playing the same sport but just playing the game a little different doesn't really matter if you like to wear gear or if you just play in a paintball mask and t-shirt your still playing Airsoft.

honestly the coolest way is to just go out on an open field and play! its not as competitive as speedsoft and nit as serious as milsim + you can play however you want and effectiveness doesnt matter unless you want it to.

I respect both styles of play immensely, but truth be told I much prefer speedsoft.I just have this craving for high energy gunplay thats super fast paced and aggressive. Its so fast honestly its entirely unrealistic but thats what I enjoy (and I'm by far not the fastest at my field). Dropping a 30 bomb on an 8 min unlimited respawn CQB field feels absolutely amazing.

for me, I'm 110% form over function and can't really see myself enjoying how competitive speedsoft is at times where I enjoy how non competetive milsim is. I don't want to win, I want to experience.

A friend and I just opened EagleFreak Airsoft up in Lake Stevens, WA where we're developing a friendly version of speedsoft to grow the airsoft player base in WA. Our rules are semi only, 8 RPS max, 1 joule limit, and anti overshooting rules. Mixed with fantastic game modes and a well thought out field we've made really great strides in retaining airsoft players and on boarding new players.

That subject is the most debatable and fight maker in the field...and yet you made both side happy with one video! I never understood why it have to be black or white Combine, adopt, play what and how you love it. Personally I love the quick games and the "aggressive" play style,But in Israel there is mostly Milsim-ish plays And because of that I understood the beauty of playing milsim with my attitude and rythem,after all..Its a game,Play how you like it. In Denmark we have like a combo, where people have guns and gear that leans more towards to Milsim but the tactics and pace and rules are more like Speedsoft. I personally find it very good combi.

I like milsim more than speedsofting but I also like speedsofting. altogether people just need to stop arguing and everything would be fine.

I just love airsoft I'll play what ever I do have a preference but I have no bother playing either style of play I prefer milsim type play but I think cqb can be good to whip your play style into shape

those groups you said that took it too far I do agree. being from the military I have yet to find other vets that wants to talk to each other's like that. we have squad designation (ie: bravo 00, etc) and that's it, we do have billets like squad leader, fireteam lead, platoon leader but not a rank structure.

Personally I just use what works on the milsim side of things without falling into the IG traps.

im both im a speedsofter but like andre i like both sides as a equal i am acuttaly on a milsim team but im a speedsofter its just a style of play at the end of the day were all playing the same game just in different ways so whats the big deal.

Just came across this video 3 years on, although I know I’m not going to get a reply I want to put my point across, AIRSOFT PLAYERS USE TOY GUNS, DON’T PRETEND THEY ARE REAL GUNS AND DON’T PRETEND YOUR IN THE MILITARY. I think speedsoft is just better as no one is taking it seriously and are having fun not trying to take an objective and don’t shout “TANGO DOWN” every time they shoot another lowlife wearing there uncles ex military gear from basic training that he later dropped out of for sexual misconduct. Just run around like a headless chicken shoot two people and get shot by another rampaging 12 year old using a hired m4.

TL;DR: Milsim = Treating it like a role playing experience, prioritizing fun and teamwork. Using realistic gear and guns, even if they’re not the best (Conventional AR/M4 platform, AK platform, etc) Speedsoft = Treating it like a sport, prioritizing competitiveness and performance. Using only what’s most effective, usually not concerned with realism (see: G&G SSG, Hi capas, DSGs, etc). Personally my preference leans towards milsim because in my experience speedsofters are often arrogant and toxic, but that’s not every speedsofter and I see the flaws with hardcore milsim. The perfect way to play airsoft is probably a mixture of the two styles.

my thought on speedsoft vs milsim is that I cannot really comment on Milsim, Airsoft is pretty new in my country and we do have "milsim" event, but they are NOTHING like i see on video's like Milsim West like the video's of Jet Desert Fox... here it's more like a normal skirm with some differant rules like you can get "medict" instead of needing to go to respawn if you get hit... so a Milsim is basecly just a normal skirm with some differant rules... but there are not clothing requerments or nothing... and we don't have events that take days... if you have a 8 hour skirm/milsim it's really long... about speedsoft, well I havend met any speedsofters yet and I'm glad for it.. from the video's I've seen I can tell i don't like it... it's just some people running around for their lives spraying and praying... they shoot thousands of BB's at empty rooms/windows/doors/corners... and when they find an "enemy" they ALWAYS overshoot... and not overshooting like hitting someone 5 times.. no... more like 20 times... piont blank... and I hate that...

Ok, not going to be a dick. But airsoft is 1:1 replicas of real firearms..... that in and of itself IS MILSIM. Speed-soft is nothing more than playing paintball with airsoft guns..... Which when I left paintball 20 years ago because I discovered airsoft, I left speedball behind. It was and is a very competitive high paced game that didn’t care if their Spyder marker had a real steel counterpart. Airsoft because the projectile doesn’t mark? Doesn’t lend itself well to competitive play..... Andre is probably a good enough speed-softer to pick up a paintball marker, get sponsored, and get paid a good paycheck to play as a professional paintballer. Why play airsoft? As far as looks? Airsoft in most of the world where humans cannot own real firearms and blank-fire? Use.....airsoft! Again.... 1:1 replicas. When you jump on Redwolf Airsoft and see them reviewing a Broomstick Mauser.... or a Winchester M70 hunting rifle, or some other super obscure firearm? There is a reason for it! Asian and European reenactors and collectors swoon over that stuff. I like CQB in a tactical environment. Airsoft Pacific even had a CQC competition we used to compete in. Teams would go against a “house team” and be judged in different missions. You can search for it on RU-vid. Very fast paced and practiced up as a team. Coming from paintball and finding it now is leeching over to airsoft..... I just cringe. Sorry. Its a free country, but not my bag.

My home field is an indoor cqb facility... Extreme Airsoft in Wakefield, RI. And we get all 5 core airsofters - speedsofters, milsimmers, the "hoodie brigade" {new players/rentals}, the birthday partiers, and folks like me - the proud filthy casual. But are far as the two main types go, but speedsoft and milsim, have a lot to offer. Both styles can learn a lot from each other. Personal feelings... As long as you are following the rules and having fun, there is no wrong answer.

i ran with a milsim company (paintball to be specific, but i think the same issues translate over to airsoft milsim) for a short bit (i got up to captain, so i guess it was a longer than a short bit, rofl) that ran with ranks, but it was more of a "hey, we established a leveling system like halo/COD and like using it" we never used the rank as a authority. we had a forum for tips/tricks, stats on K/D per game, game finders, etc. it was ahead of its time and sadly no longer exists (special ops paintball brigade)

This video is the reason why I play paintball and want to finally start playing airsoft. Because if I wanna play a team competition setting, I want to be able to mark/paint their target. I wouldn’t play speedqb/speedsoft. But if I wanted to play Milsim/Roleplay events, yeah. Airsoft it is!

Sadly, it's hard for me to enjoy SpeedSoft because of the people at my usual field. Most of people that go there are pretty much a bunch of immature middle and high schoolers with bad attitudes and Polarstars cranked up to to maximum field limit, maybe even higher sometimes. It sucks because it's a CQB field but the FPS limit is 400 with .2's and there is no minimum engagement distance. They are also pretty lax about making people chrono before playing, I have personally never been made to chrono any of my guns there before. This tends to make almost every player on both teams not want to play aggressively for fear of getting shot so nobody really wants to go out and play the objective. I just don't see a reason to have your FPS that high when the maximum distance that you're shooting someone from is less than 100ft.

Reminds me of the Battlefield vs Call of Duty debate from around 4-5 years ago during the Battlefield 3 era. The Call of Duty guys getting a bad name from the kids and the douchebags (P* assholes in Speedsoft). Battlefield guys getting called elitists (Milsim guys who are a little too serious).

milsim: not aggressive enough, like sitting at a bunker waiting for a fight to come to you. speedsoft: too much aggression, point blank shooting until the gun is empty i like milsim more. the urge to hit people with your rifle stock is less prevalent when people don't dump mags in your face while screaming "call your hit" QUESTION: is hit calling less common in speedsoft compared to milsim? i don't hear people calling a hit when getting shot, but then again the players don't seem to be heard over the sound of expanding gas. QUESTION #2: is it necessary to even say "hit" if you been shot point blank 5 times in rapid succession and the players runs off to shoot more people; would he want to hear it or would there be just silent acknowledgement? speedsoft leaves me salty AF. not that i don't like speedsoft but when your testosterone levels are peaking, it's hard to be polite; or even remember to be polite, after all it uses more time and can leave you vulnerable to blindspots and flanking fire but i do HATE milsim players who just sit in the back and think that their expensive high power guns will hit people 300 feet away and just curse the daylight out of people who they claim to have shot. i have to adjust my mindset every time i go from milsim to speedsoft and back again. i even have different friends who are exclusive to the two genres and i never want to mix the two, it just seems like an argument waiting to happen. i liked the video but i ask that you please use more descriptive words, maybe do a rough draft on what you want to talk about so you can review it before you begin the video. my conclusion of this video after watching it was that the answer to the milsim vs speedsoft question comes down to: milsim players are not good at playing airsoft at all, and speedsoft players have players within that no one wants to play with at all, because they're jerks and/or not nice people. please try to get back to me on the answer, as i wish to bridge the divide between the two, and have both sides expose the toxic players within the community as a whole.

by my opinion on speedsoft ... its competetive style of play... maybe we can watch it on stream like "esports" to be like world league soon :-) ... it could be good ... much healthier than video games like "league of legends" or "cs go" .... on the other hand the milsim is kind of relax from typical stereotypes of life where u hang out with ppl who has the same "brain issue - kappa xD" and just having fun with them :-) ... i think its great that airsoft has got that much possibilities instead of paintball :-)

yet there are some Milsim games were the name its self makes you laugh so fucking hard.... For example, in Indiana, we had this one game called op: Pacific Rimjob.

Wearing the correct gear is for the other players. By dressing like a moron you are ruining their experience. Nobody wants to set up an ambush while being eaten by bugs only to find the target is dressed like bozo the clown or the joker. Speedball is kinda boring in my opinion. A small room with barriers which rarely changes, inside, no team skill required, just shoot and run. Same concept as everyone wanting to be a sniper in milsim... Seems to mostly be a place where people brag about their guns, jerseys, and goggles. Field owners love it because they make more money in less time with less field, which is why they've pushed it so hard to the little kids. Might as well call it laser tag it's the same thing.

It's not rocket science. Know when to be fast and know when to be slow. Have good team communication, keep angles covered, go fast to exploit openings and to evade, go slow to be more quiet and controlled. I'm the only milsim guy on my field on average in nearly full kits and people know me as one of the most aggressive players. What you wear doesn't define your play style.

Speedsoft gets dragged into the group of people that just run around with polarstars putting 50+ rounds into one person and that's not how all of "us" are I would consider myself a "speedsofter" because most of the time I run just a backpack for my hpa setup and my pistol

Agree the hyper passivity with some milsim players is annoying but absolutely no less than the speedsoft lack of penalty for rushing face first and getting shot... Oop infinite lives and respawns. It removes the balance in gameplay that speedball had in paintball.

my dislikes on speedsoft is the whole mag dumping and having edgy montage with gay ass rap like suicide boys or any trashy rap those type of Speedsofters who just do it to get views on RU-vid for Revenue discuss me. people like that make other speedsofters who just want to play airsoft have to be sit out because of the whole stereotype of mag dumping and hurting people.

For a casual day of airsoft, you really don't need a lot of gear unless you're in a milsim op, airsoft isn't like actual combat, so it's best to keep it light. If you want simulation, knock yourself out with all the gear but it's more recommended for milsim ops.

There’s a sweet spot right in the middle of both extremes, much like real life. I don’t like the cats that play like try hard cod players or the fat dude barking orders like he’s some kind of 4 star general.

Im fine with speedsofters as long as they don't have a blade trigger on their p* and abide by field rules and dont try to mag dump or overshoot people all the time. The p* and dsg argument doesnt apply because gbb's have instant trigger response just like p* and dsg's. Also the blade trigger needs good trigger response for it ti do what people say it does. If i were to take a stock raider and put a blade trigger on it, i can only shoot as fast as my gearbox can cycle. Its super expensive to get to that point. The reason pwople hate them is because the bad apples always appear in cheater videos and pretty everyone who is a cheater is called a speedsofter.

I’ve got a team, with ranks and team structure but we don’t call each other sir or by ranks. We are casual like you said but our rank system is more of a way to have our players be more enthusiastic about the team. If you come to team events and you come to play with us and play good you will rank up etc. also it determines team positions like if your a higher rank there’s a better chance that you’d be a fire team leader or a Squad leader at games

i usually play a speedsoft-ish style with hi capa mag adapter and will run around and get in close and am looking at getting a p* setup for funsys but i also love to go outside and do an event for two days even if its milsim maybe its just that everyone in nzs super chill

Both milsim and speesoft bot have people that ruin the game and are total dicks. I have played against a lot of speedsofters who don't call their hits and over shoot now on the other side same with milsimers too. I recently got to hang a friends team he just joined and they are really cool nice guys and very honorable players. So what i have to say basically is just try both out and meet people not to mention we all are playing the same game we have more important enemies to worry about in terms of laws and the outside world judging use my twi cents

Well it’s normal if your going to a milsim you can’t wear OD green and multicam together imagine you see only the top of the helmet OD green and finally you take a shot then the guy calls hit and you see him stand up and finally his kit is all multicam and you where in the same team it would be stupid to change the rules just because people ho complaint they don’t have the right kit to go to a milsim

You can't say people that do milsim "aren't in the military" because alot of troops train with airsoft rifles and alot of troops play airsoft themselves to hone cqb skills because when it comes the to real thing you only get one chance

I played CQB with a springer pistol as a joke and it was kids night and I'm glad I did it because the kids were not scared to push up if I shoot them with that gun

Who cares speedsofters are fun to shoot at and Im sure milsimers are fun to shoot at the field I play at is milsim based but have a good % ofspeedsofters I never argued with anyone I have argued with more Milsim guys who cheat and get mad when you get them out
