While my great grandparents were still alive Christmas was always at their house. Other than being together the most important part of our Christmas was a baked fresh ham and my great grandmother's homemade biscuits. That was all we had to eat for Christmas but it was perfect 👌 I don't want to sound like we couldn't afford more because we could. It was just perfect the way it was done. I miss those day's and family sooooo much. ❤🙏🐕❤🙏🐕❤🙏🐕❤🙏🐕❤🙏🐕❤🙏🐕❤🙏

I agree with you. As a child of the 60’s and 70’s to depression era parents, the decor was so beautiful back then. I also do not like the blow up things. I think they look so cheesy and cheap despite the fact they are very expensive. ❤️❤️

My mother's childhood Christmas trees were in the parlor lit with candles. The parlor was only heated for short times to keep the tree from drying out. When I was little and lived on the farm, Santa brought the Christmas tree on Christmas eve and there it was on Christmas morning.

Renee you definitely did well with the box of Christmas goodies:) I enjoyed it! The thing I miss the most is the old Christmas Hometown atmosphere I grew up in. The bigger city down the road from us had a Dept. store that used to have a fabulous Christmas window fairyland and a whole floor of Santa, elves, trees, winter wonderland festive fantasy land. I know some of the big cities still have them but the little towns are not the same in the Walmart/Amazon era:)

I love how you appreciate Christmas for the feelings it evokes. I grew up in the 80s/90s and even though that's not as long ago as you were speaking about, Christmas is even so much different now from that time. I remember looking at the toys in the JCPenney and Sears catalogs, going to a Christmas tree farm to cut down a tree and helping decorate the house and tree, helping make cookies, going Christmas shopping at the mall (imagine that!), and of course the anticipation of the actual holiday. Certainly Christmas is more a magical experience as a child, but I doubt it gives children the same feelings nowadays as it did back then. Now so much of it just feels like a chore that needs to be tended to and that sucks. Thank you for bringing back some of that old magic, Renee! - Mark

I miss the traditional holiday and even Sunday dinner traditions from my youth. I was blessed with my great grandparents until highschool graduation, so holidays were a 2 day affair. Everyone came to great grandmas on Christmas eve, there were 35 to 40 of us. We ate dinner stuffed full of old favorite recipes tons of homemade candy and cookies. Then the youngest grandchildren handed out 🎁 🎁 🎁. The guys got gloves and or socks as did the ladies. We kids used to get socks and a small toy like one of those plastic rearrange the number puzzles from ben franklin. The next day was with the regular grandparents on both sides of the family. Giant meals with everything homemade cookies, candy cranberry orange salad. The whole 9 yards....and of course gifts! We kids didn't want to leave even late in the evening. The hectic schedule and indigestion from 1 to many goodies, man that's the family time I miss. My parents stopped decorating and having a dinner when my grandma passed 6 years ago. My home isn't large enough to have everyone over(and I'm not a great cook, lol). My son who turned 30 this year has a 2 year old, i hope he trys to build some memories including the great grandparents and grandparents as well for baby evie to reflect back on when she's grown.

I love how your eyes light up when you find something nice and unexpected! You are so tender and careful with how you handle these types of things. Most people your age would have absolutely no interest in the things you find beauty in and I find that fascinating. I am wondering how you came to love and appreciate the vintage and antiques? I love seeing your adventures unfold whether it is a sale or auction or things that other people throw away that you see value in. I have watched a couple of other channels similar to yours (both were men) and I can't stand it. When testosterone meets adrenaline it is so obnoxious! You are a breath of fresh air. Cool moose pillow on your couch! Speaking of Christmas, yesterday at Sal. Army I found a nice vintage ceramic Christmas tree to add to my collection...it is minus the base, but complete otherwise. I will make a custom base/w light for it. Love all those miniatures! It's wonderful how these glass ornaments were manufactured. Everything is cold cast or plastic today. Sometime ago, I sold a family collection of these glass ornaments for $375 to a fellow who collected Christmas decorations. His collection went back to the late 19th century to the 40's. Will be running those big, vintage Lionel trains this year, in Mc Kinseyville, in honor of my deceased collector friend, Don, who passed these wonderful electric trains to me!

I think you did VERY well! $50 was a no brainer. How high would you have gone? Always fun to find good things in a box you bought No reason that ornaments only have to be put up for Christmas, I have about 20 of those big kuggle balls over my doorway going into my kitchen that I keep up all year. I had a wife that really collected antique Christmas and she had some Christmas photos that were really neat. One was a big photo of about 1900 of what was obviously a wealthy family...this kid had everything including a maid in uniform holding a collie puppy! Another photo showed a family around a sad looking tree that looked like they cut it down in the back wood lot. The girl was holding a homemade Doll and the boy had a puppy of uncertain heritage He had the bigger smile! 😊

Back in the early 40's, the ornaments had copper tops on them and when the war was going on, they started using cardboard because they needed the copper to make shells. So if you see paper on the top, you know it was made during the war years.

It was so much fun to shop at dime stores, Newberry’s etc. The atmosphere, the decorations, so much fun in the 60’s, 70’s. People really enjoyed Christmas, Miss those times. Kids now have no clue. Homemade decorations, every house you went to was filled with goodies, foods, smells. I think back then the cheaper the decorations the prettier. Now a lot of decorations have the fake look, no feelings, just who can spend the most money and decorate. Have we forgotten what Christmas is all about? Love the sparkle in your eyes at your treasures. Awesome goodies.

This was so much fun! I love the old ornaments! A couple years ago I had collected old ornaments at flea markets etc. I made a wreath with them. It's my favorite. I have a few for my tree and I like the original hanger that covers the top of the ornaments. So I hot glued a small dot under them so if it was held by the hanger they wouldn't come apart and break. I agree that things were so carefully made and appreciated years ago. I would have loved to have gone through that box with You! Believe me...you made your $50.00 just in that box.

Seems like each year, the true Christmas gets farther away. I grew up in 40 and 50s and Christmas was really so much fun . There were parades and we had parades for most holidays. None had a lot of money so we did with what we had and were thrilled with what Santa left. None of this high dollar stuff kids have to have today! Im so tired of all the spoiled little brats, because we see what they are as adults, don't you agree. I did what I could for 3 as a single mother. And believe me, some years were pretty slim but they never once in all the years complained or seemed disappointed by their Christmas. Sorry, didn't mean to write a story!! Miniature stuff like the dog missing a leg can be sold as a crafters lot. You can hide missing legs in scenic boxes. My mother had a number of those tiny porcelain dolls. She said they used to be on top of Christmas cakes and Easter cakes when she was a girl in the 1930's. True gold thread is very heavy. My mother had done restoration work on some Victorian military uniforms and had to have that special thread. It is surprisingly heavy on the spool. I am just loving all this miniature stuff! You have really hit a crafters paradise of vintage stuff!! Metallic yarn is often made with a metallic foil through it. It is lighter weight. That bag of fruit pieces could be for vintage hats. That ornament you found my not be broken. I have some very early glass ornaments and the opening under the metal cap is uneven and rough. They were not careful back then on how they broke off the blown glass. Victorian and Edwardian eras are not as finished off as the Shiny Brights we are used to from the 1950's. I am really hoping some of this hits your online shop!!! Some of those ornaments are pre-WWII. You certainly made back your investment. I am not a fan of modern decorations either. I prefer the more solid stuff. SO much is plastic now and not detailed so I look for the older stuff there too., Just before our mother passed away I convinced her to divide up the German Christmas balls from our great grandparents and our grandmother. There were just enough for each of the 6 of us to get one red glass ball from the great grandparents and one of each of the 1930's hand painted large glass balls from my Dad's mothers family. All these years later we all still use them on our trees though all the older relatives are long gone.

@16:37 You comment on the broken top of the flower ornament and I wanted you to know that the metal caps at the top are to cover that. Adjusted to fit more evenly they balance them out. My mom had an incredible collection of very old German ornaments and she always adjust the tops. The were hand blown and ofter removed with a rough top which was covered by the metallic top and hook loop. It was not unusual to find them like that after a certain amount of use and age. Also research the "walnut" nut ornament I can't recall its meaning completely but my mom always hung a walnut in the tree gilded with gold when our glass one broke. A terrific find Renee. I am very happy for you.

We made all our decorations from popcorn it was fun and my most favorite christmas my neighbor family were poorer then us and my friends parents did have money to buy her a gift so me and my mama made her a new dress and put on and old doll i had and gave it to her for christmas you should have seen the look on this girls face when she received the gift

Amazing box of goodies! I adore those little dolls. So cute. I love what you said about Christmas as a kid with the nostalgia, you've really said how I feel about it all. I really love old things around me, I'm definitely a maximalist. I feel more homely and cosy with old pretty things to look and and use. Great video as always, and as always, thank you so much for sharing x

Hello Renee. Well I don’t even know what to say. I’m speechless 😶. Wow 🤩. I can’t believe how much you got in that box and how amazing it all is . But what really was priceless was the look on your face . You had the look of a child on Christmas morning. And the way your voice was when you spoke of it all . Renee you gave me chills and brought me back home to the days I long for. Thanks for the memories back to the days when life was carefree and wonderful. Stay safe and well enjoy your box of Christmas past. ☕️☕️☕️☕️🐈🐈🐈💕💕💕💕💕💕🎄🎄🎅🏼🎄🎅🏼🎅🏼🎅🏼🎅🏼🎄🎄💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

That was fun Rene! I really enjoyed it. I was born in 1960, so I had the best of the 60's and 70's. Christmas was always at my Nanny's house (my Grandmother). It was the best of times.

Those Christmas tree ornaments remind me of the tree my parents used to set up. Sad-sweet memories (sweet cos, well you'll understand, sad because both have passed away).

Renee, I so enjoy all of your postings! Because of how you feel about vintage Christmas and it’s ornaments, etc., you might want to treat yourself to Tasha Tudor’s ( beloved children’s book illustrator who lived in Vermont) dvd entitled “Take Peace”. It is beyond beautiful and magical in every way! She was enraptured with the Victorian era and the house she lived in was a complete time travel back to that time period. She truly lived as such - without electricity, with a hand pump in her kitchen, etc. She was an incredibly artist and a woman who deeply valued “old” traditions, especially surrounding Christmas. You will gasp at the family heirloom ornaments she has! Her other dvd entitled “Take Joy” is stunning as well. It was her philosophy and practice for living. I watch each of these beautiful dvds at least twice each year - as a treat to myself and to help me remember what is truly important in our all-too-often world today. I rarely every buy a dvd ...but I have a copy of both of them and wouldn’t sell them for anything! (they are available for purchase on Amazon - I have no affiliation with it/them/anything.). I truly think you would be enchanted with them! Thanks again for your lovely postings ...I feel such a sense of kindred spiritedness. My heart skips beats when it comes to all kinds of ephemera, especially old: valentines, children’s greeting cards, handwritten letters, postcards, diaries and more! And yes, also vintage Christmas items and vintage dollhouse miniature!

I remember growing up with all the ornaments my mom and Dad had when they were first together in the fifties. The Glass birds with the straight brush tail they clamped on the trees were my favorite. The only terrible things were the Christmas tree lights. They could give you third degree burns! The metal shields that came with them were heavy aluminium. I remember when Bubblers first came out. They were larger and very much cooler to look at. I miss the old metal tinsel very much. I remember seeing the cat box start looking festive because the idiot cat would eat it off the tree. Now it is Mylar plastic and probably doesn't taste the same! 😂 I enjoyed your box unpacking, it was like bring home with my family again. Thank you and s very early Merry Christmas to you!

Those are great treasures Renee, I especially love the little bell. I had one from my Mom's collection and it fell on my hardwood floor and shattered a few years ago. I could have cried, it was one of my favorite!!

Nice collection of items! Plastic decorations were good as when dropped by small hands, didn't break, but defiantly the "wow" of glass and how light reflects give a great twinkle affect from flickering candles, or blinking tree lights. At the beginning when said could be long, thought you said hope you have your coffee, tea and bacon, I had a good hearty chuckle ! 🤣 I think you did well.

I enjoy when you go through the boxes and garbage bags. I agree with you on the blower yard decor. Big Lots was playing Christmas music when I was in there a couple days ago. Another shopper and I was like “realllly?!” 🤣
