Man I just found your videos and I just turned 49 last week. Been playing on and off since I was 10, and wish I had studied harder. Been turning my buddies on to you last couple days. Merry Christmas thanks brother.
After 32 years of playing (gospel 9PC brass band) i'm learning new material every time I watch your videos. I can tell we are from the same era, it's your delivery that's the key man, thank you for your efforts..
Since I was told to practice on 5-note group, 2 accents and 3 accents, I've been spamming them. Hardest thing so far is to count over the bar and resolve.
Rob, I LOVED this video. such a simplistic way to break into some tasty and coordinated licks. You truly are a master player and inspirational teacher for all of us aspiring to be better at what we do. And.... BTW, I peeped your DRUMEO video. It was something I strive to do yet sometimes lose sight of. It hit home on so many fronts. I feel it was one of DRUMEO'S greatest lessons. I can't believe it took so long for you to appear there but I trust many will feel the same as I; long overdue Bruh!! Also recently purchased your "Rooted in Rhythm" Hoodie. it's beautiful and perfect in this cold weather here. God Bless you and Thank You for your dedication to our craft!!!
My man Rob, the “Sticking together” theme is such an appropriate message right now. That theme on hoodies, shirts and other matching items may move in a big way if you plug it in your vids. The truth is we do need to stick together despite our differences and we need to hear it as well. I bought the neck gator and am impressed with the texture and quality of the material and it’s two layers. Good video, I’ll put this is my practice routine. Peace.
A lot of drummers do this and it's extremely helpful. You hear guys like Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Smith and even new cats like Matt Garstka. Awesome stuff
You have a true gift for teaching, man! A "complex" topic made easy just because of how you explained it. I have done similar fills from hearing drummers I like play odd grouping fills, but I never even knew what it was called or what was actually going on. Now that I actually understand what's happening and how its counted I'm going to be able to create some seriously cool fills. Thank you so much Rob! I've got some practicing to do.
Rob, All your videos are SO informative and great resources. At first I was like... huh? (What is happening). Then I was like... huh! (I get it). I don't think if I had looked for this information elsewhere, it would have been as simple to pick up on. - Thank you, sir!!!
OOOh! Mix and match accent number patterns, throw in evens, add a snare fill at the end! The combos are endless! Thanks! This is exactly what I need right now at my level!
Hey Rob this was awesome... Could you make a video how to know end as it these cross over the bar line and tends to make it difficult to know the "one"
I loved the mix up of the different counts. I knew you were going to probably do that as an example but it sounded so freaking cool when you executed it. Your ghost notes are scary even man, they’re so satisfying to listen to.
So good man! This helps with all kinds of polyrythyms too, not just overlayed on 4/4, but subdividing other signatures as well! Thanks for such a great library of learning resources. You do a great job of demystifying the drums, and making it fun to learn them. Keep it up man! I'mma head over to that merch page and support the cause, wear it proudly and spread the word!
Rob this is like digging in pure gold, I’ve been playing for a while now and this has unlocked my vocabulary. What’s more it sounds as if I can actually play now. Inspiring lesson mate, it’s restored my faith in me as a drummer. thank you.
Awesome! I now know a 41 note grouping. :) Great video BTW. For anyone else bouncing around Rob's videos, this would be an excellent exercise for the traditional grip.
I’ve been playing drums since I was a teen as a hobby more or less. Never took lessons which is why my skills only advanced to a certain point. This lesson unlocked an important part of the puzzle for me. Gonna pull the trigger on an electronic kit and get back into it!
