First half was a middling standard MCU movie not dissimilar to Ant-Man, the second half had me nostalgic, excited and weepy. This ain’t Endgame, but the satisfying character and fan service moments in act 3 won me over.

OMG!!! I never thought I would have tears coming down my face in a Spider-Man movie, but it couldn't be stopped. Awesome film, and a great time at the movies. I was really happy to see Andrew have a bit of a do over on the rescue, the emotion and look on his face was great.
Interesting review. The last one I watched RAVED about the first 1/3 of the film, saying it was running at a break-neck pace & arguably the best part of the film. The one thing that all reviews I've watched had in common was praise for Tom Holland! Seriously, there has not been one person that hasn't loved his performance, which has me more excited than ever to see this movie! Oh, and the cinematography... that's another thing that seems to be unanimously praised. Can't wait :) :) :)
I can feel the hardships you faced by just ignoring the words tobey Or Andrew at the same time emphasizing on the later half of the film. BTW loved this early review.
I tend to value films for story, character and theme, not nostalgia and fan service which I don’t care about. When the insane hype dies down - this is maybe my 6th favorite SpiderMan film. -> Into the SpiderVerse -> Far from Home -> SpiderMan II -> SpiderMan -> Homecoming -> No Way Home. ________________________ -> SpiderMan III -> Amazing Andrew Garfield I -> Amazing Andrew Garfield II
This is on par to Into the Spiderverse, you can feel the love and passion for the Spider-Man character and the ending left me wanting more! What a way to end the year!
I really think Marvel has to stop making its movies "Tony Stark-y" with the witty and pop culture jokes. Case in point the Beyonce joke in Doctor Strange. It just feels out of place and out of character. There are times when it works because it's part of the character's background (the karaoke bit in Shang-Chi landed well because it's relatable). That's why even though average at best, the pre-Avengers movies (except the 2 Iron Man films) has humor that is organic and doesn't wink at the audience.
Definitely agree on the beginning feeling kinda clunky. Once the first villain shows up it gets a little better and then towards the end was pure magic. I was cautiously optimistic that the cameos from other movies would feel cheap and fan servicy but I think they did justice to just about every character introduced. Maybe not "The perfect movie" objectively, but considering the theater experience and a genuinely great way to pull off the multiverse -- for superhero movies its the best I've ever seen
The biggest issue I have with the MCU is the humor. I’ve never found it particularly funny and it always takes me out of the moment. A little disappointing to hear that there’s a lot of that in there, but it is what it is lol. On the other hand, I’ve been desperately craving a stronger story and level of maturity, emotion and drama from the MCU Spidey films which you’ve assured me is definitely included too. Still pumped! Seeing it on Thursday. Ahhh.
I worried that the film would underwhelm for all the reasons that you’ve gently cited. MCU needs to do a reset post Endgame. They are losing their mojo. Usually by the time you admit it, it’s too late.
Agreed, one thing that excited me leading into Phase 4 was Feige talking about the MCU going smaller, more intimate and focusing on character stories without needing to set 100 different things - cut to its first entry WandaVision and it's already leading into Dr Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
I thought the second half especially from the point where it got heavy into the green goblin scenes onwards was awesome, I could see that half over and over, the first half though I wasn't too fond of
Non-spoilery review so I'll keep this comment non-spoilery as well: In the first hour or so I was mostly just getting accustomed to actually be watching this movie, so it's hard to say how good or uneven it was after this first watch... But once the movie takes off, and it really does, it gets to hitting on all the notes and exciting events you could hope for in a Spider-Man movie like this. I'm so happy they did certain elements justice and utilized the multiverse in the surprising and emotional ways that they did. Dafoe and returning figures all brought their characters back terrifically, as did Tom Holland and Zendaya of course in this dark turn of events... The movie ended up more straight-forward than I expected, but in the end I have very few complaints :') More later.

Just got out of the theatre and I'm inclined to agree with your review. The strong 2nd half and finish polishes over the 1st half for sure. For me, it's the best of the MCU spidey movies but I'm well short of saying it's the best of the MCU.
What do you mean? Believe them both, because its THEIR OWN opinion. Reviews are meant to inform the audience, not convince them of something. Go into the film with an open mind and come back later so you can compare and contrast the review to your own thoughts.
Few inconsistencies and I was enjoying the first half too sans some editing and cinematography but the second half soars, oh it soars. Love the movie though. Hasn't left my mind since Thursday morning, first day, first show.
I thought the first half of the movie was good if I had a nitpick it would be that some of the scenes felt kind of fast and not syncing more but I respect your opinion and people who had issues with the first half I personally didn’t but the second half was damn near flawless

So strange. I thought the first half was much better paced and the story was much more subtle and better told in the beginning. I loved the story better in the second half but I found it much clunkyer from a filmmaking standpoint.
You know I am going to watch the movie today but its very difficult to not check whether Tobey and andrew are there,there presence itself has made me more excited to see this movie
I just got home from seeing the movie and it was fantastic and definitely lived up to the hype for me - there were definitely scenes which were my favourite that I’m not gonna go into in case someone reads the comments but I will say there was a lot of cheering in the cinema when it happened - feel so emotionally and definitely going to watch again in cinemas
i never liked that Ironman spider suit.,It was stupid.that really stands out when you see the other two Spidermans .I really hope they take the original suit in the next movie.(if there a new movie coming )
I just watched Spiderman the way home and it was fantastic the first half was really good in opinion But the second half was fantastic and I believe this is the greatest Spiderman movie of all time and remember avengers endgame’s third act was so much better than the first two hours even though I thought the first two eggs were really good this is what no way home reminds me of
The movie wouldn't work without the first act. I even think that the first act was super rushed and too cut. And people are STILL complaining about it. Also, I'm starting to get really annoyed with people who hate humor. It's just not cool anymore.
I really don’t understand or agree with this first half roughness at all. I hope Perri could go into spoiler detail on this later. I was loving it a lot throughout. Maybe humor is just subjective and maybe I loved the jokes more than Perri did?
The 1st half of the movie is probably to showcase how messy Tom's peter parker lives, the other half is the beginning of him developing into the true core of the original Peter parker...
What if in Final battle clip which we saw in the Trailer, Spiderman is with Doctor strange and Doc Ock fighting by his side and there isn't Tobey & Andrew in Movie!?!?!???
Cant look away from her adams apple. That being said i agree with a lot.of her criticisms. I didnt like the movie at all. Im in the minority. Wanted to love it and struggled to finish it. U can tell sony has influence in these films. Im enjoying hawkeye so much compared to this.
