Clicked. I like you videos, because you dare to point out problems of the car you review. For example in the recent GX550 review you pointed out vibrations on the steering wheel and door panel. Some other guys just praise and praise like paid ad, and a few guys are all negative on a car.
@@karmanautoreview meanwhile there are some comments on YT that just flat out say the GX is ugly and non luxurious at any level and blah blah blah, though every car will get that no matter what brand it is
@@huanronghu4432the GX is a proper offroad car, rugged, not luxurious like a Lx or Rx.... . Ridiculous that some commenters think the Gx should be plush from the inside
@@avdp9095We warned them for the past 2 and 1/2 years. Found out in 2021, It was going to be rugged and attract influencer types or bold and brash offroader bros. People are so dumb and obtuse, never listening to what is being hinted at.
I'm glad Kirk acknowledges how many times it's been delayed. It's not made up whatsoever like some people think. They did have an earlier plan to redesign this, but it has changed along the way numerous times.
The Road Runner is very special to me. A RR was brought to me for an eval for trade-in. When I met the lady owner, l told her how well she maintained the car and that l was so impressed, l gave her ALL the money for her rig toward a new CRV Honda. A year and half later she still had that Honda, but also me as her husband.❤
I’m very on the fence on grabbing a 2024 nowish because the new 4Runner will be too different, OR waiting. Can’t argue with how bulletproof the current engine/transmission is. Great stuff as always Kirk.
Why wouldn't the new one not be reliable? Toyota has been doing hybrids forever.. think Prius.. I think the only concern will be a continued trend of making them under powered
I'm 90% sure that they won't keep the roll-down rear window. Instead they'll give us that stupid pop-up rear window like what they gave the current gen Tundra.
My 4Runner got into hit and run accident last week. Very difficult to pick which one to replace it. I think price will be the deciding factor for many people, between new Land Cruiser and the 6 gen 4Runner since we know the pricing of GX.
I’m in the same boat. Have 300k on my 4Runner but I’ve heard nothing but horror stories of folks trying to buy a new vehicle so I’ll wait to see what the 6th gen 4Runner looks like and the supply/pricing/reviews for the Land Cruiser,
I expect a reveal for the New York International Auto Show, which is the first week of April. a SR5, TRD Sport, Limited, Trail Hunter and TRD Pro lineup Having 3 TRD models (TRD Off Road) wouldn't make much sense, and the Trail Hunter should replace it
damm that would be bold of Toyota and yeah hopefully, it would be on April 4th because you know 4/4/24 for the new 4 runner. I was also thinking maybe debuting later in the month on April 24th because 4 runner debuting on 4/24/24
Don't count on a New York reveal. No 4Runner has been revealed at an auto show ever. I have good authority on this too. April is somewhat important though.
I drive a 2005 Mitsubishi Mintero Limited and have heard rumors of Mitsubishi bringing the Montero back to America, but I assume it won't be as off-road capable as mine, so I'll probably go with the 6th Gen 4Runner when it's time for a new truck.
@@thebeast9606Those rumors weren't false? Just gone silent. Basing it on the Y63 Patrol in fact and Infiniti QX80. Not sure if they changed their minds.
@nwezetx1 From what I've seen, Mitsubishi wants to develop the (new) Montero from one of their own platforms and not off of the Patrol, but I guess we'll see...
It would be cool if they made the top part removable as a nod to the 1st gen 4Runner. It would also be able to steal sales from the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco.
At 6:13, Yes, Kirk! You should be throwing a fit! Every manufacturer has excuses. It's a 4-Runner. The swept back A-pillar has nothing to do with gas mileage and everything to do with saving money. In this case, research & development money. In the 90's my father had a BMW 750iL. It was an amazing car but I hated all the cheap plastic inside. The excuse that BMW and their fanboys said for using cheap plastic was that, "BMW was saving weight." There's an excuse for everything and if you call people out on their BS you're labeled a troll. There can be no honest critiques of anything anymore.
Me too! Other one looks too much like the outgoing model. Kirk's model gives us something different, has a tough and rugged look, minus soft rear curves.
That does indeed happen and is a major issue--typically when they are 15-20 yrs old and have 400k miles on them. Their tires need replacing as well every 50,000 miles or so. Absolute poor build quality.
I bought my 2010 4Runner limited in December 2009. I’m ready for a replacement. I’m honestly fine with it being essentially an SUV version of the Tacoma and expect they’ll go that way given the new Land Cruiser is now right above it.
Hey Kirk, was just in flagstaff AZ and I believe I saw the same vehicles! They were at mt Humphreys which I was presuming they were snow testing but not sure.
I was really hoping for a bronco/jeep style more dedicated off-roader to slot in the Toyota B-O-F SUVs. If they’re going more traditional 4Runner, I would expect them to keep the roll down rear window.
Toyota really likes to avoid the direct competition of the Wrangler and now Bronco. Maybe it’s a good thing. How many removable top customers are there? Im not sure. It would be cool to see Toyota doing it but I just don’t think they want to add the manufacturing process for several different tops.
I guess I’m a little stumped because I don’t see a lot of daylight where the 4Runner sits and the Landcruiser Jr. exists. The removable top would bring it back to the 1st gen 4Runner heritage, plus take on Ford & Jeep. I guess if the 4Runner goes more traditional, that always leaves a little room for something like a reimagined FJ with a pop top.
@@martinlopez9507clearly you don't pay attention to anything and just ignorantly observe obvious developments. For the past 4 years, it has been said the new 4Runner remains true to the current model's design with a new Tacoma connection. I follow all the insiders and actually listen to them. You people trust the wrong commentators and complain when it doesn't come true. Once again, I am right. I don't even think Kirk ever mentioned that, unlike the rest who falsely expected a direct Bronco rival. That's not the 4Runner mission.
Yeah, I was hoping for something way more capable. 4runner can't compete with Wrangler and bronco from the factory. All these new toyota vehicles are not very off-road oriented at least compared to wrangler/bronco. Toyotas compete more with defender or subarau for off-road 😂. I would hate removable top, glad that will most likely never happen.
I really hope they don’t stray too far from the current 4Runner. A new engine and transmission is fine and probably better in many ways. But I hope they keep a nice boxy in closed design and the same off road tech. I worry if they take some features away from lower models just to drive people to get a trd in order to retain atrac for instance. One of the best parts of the 4Runner besides the reliability, is that you can go all the way down to the sr5 or sr5 premium and still get a lot of features like heated seats and softex, but also get 4x4 with atrac and go almost anywhere a trd can, all for a pretty reasonable price.
I agree about interior. They did a good job with the Tacoma interior so it would be a win/win to put it in the 4runner as well. Save on research/development, production costs and it's a solid interior for a rugged trail vehicle.
I'm going to keep my 2018 Limited. Love the reliable six cylinder engine and I think it's the closest you can get to the olde Land Cruiser. Would sure take a lot to pry me out of this faithful vehicle...............
The current 4Runnner rolling down rear window is just like my Sequoia rear window and they share a design flaw. The window lift guide rails rust out. I would be shocked if Toyota continues that design in the new 4Runner.
Agree with the engine.. that 2.4 4banger is in at least 10 toyota and lexus cars. Also, definitely going to be the same interior as the Tacoma because they’re already doing that with Lexus right now having the new RX and NX looks exactly the same.
Kdss is actually optional/standard on some of the 4Runner off-road trims. Maybe some of the other trims as well. No reason for them to lock the new ekdss to one model it’ll be on the new 4Runner for sure.
We are talking about enthusiast vehicles and this guy wants RAV4 Spyshots?! I’ll make it easy for you. Picture everything in a new CRV and then mix that with soccer mom Toyota styling.😂
Yeah, it's not necessary to offer those others. Hilux and Fortuner are better harsher climates (ME Gulf) or environments (developing world). 4Runner should've died years ago per Japan executive wishes, but American execs won't allow them. Hilux Surf died and Land Cruiser 250 was meant to replace the 4Runner.
I like your render actually, that window line would be very favorable, but the C pillar does seem also likely but hard to say accurate till we actually see.
Hopefully, those holes on either side of the rear window area don't indicate that the wi down will lift up. The roll down rear window is as feature that's makes the 4runner a 4runner
My 2 cents. The hybrid battery and space for it on the new Land Cruiser almost ruin the utility for me. As solo driver with a 5th gen who uses it to get to remote trails to hike or mtb, I want a flat rear floor. The current 4Runner isn't perfect but I do carry my mtb upright in the rear on a fork mount as opposed to on a rack outside. The seats folded don't get in the way very much. In comparison, the new Land Cruiser 2nd row rear seats don't fold and stow well and appear to restrict access. As well the rear floor has a raised section to hold the hybrid battery. If the new 4Runner is similarly configured, with a raised section across the lineup, it will be a complete nonstarter for me. Practicality and utility of the rear is paramount. Other than that, I like where Toyota is going but I'm concerned about a non-flat floor and the utility when accommodating that hybrid battery and potentially impacting every model even the non-hybrid. Lastly I do have KDSS on my TRD Off-Road. It works so well box stock with a KO2 tire upgrade. Hope KDSS is an option. Thanks for your thorough videos Kirk!
Gonna guess it raises the floor the same amount as the third row, I could fit an XL Ibis Ripmo sideways with rear seats down in my 2019 sr5, but the space is better in my ‘21 trd off-road without the third row…I now use shuttle rack from Velocirax hauling bikes for the kids.
My bike stows to the left side and I keep a loop/strap on the folded seat to secure from moving. Leaves the entire middle and right side for cooler on right side passenger door. Big Kahuna shower near the electric outlet, then all the rest for my tools, recovery gear and cameras and bags. A dropper post is key in the end. The sliding tray or 3rd rows never part of my consideration except to not have them. I like all my gear inside and secure and away from dirt and rain/snow. It was a primary reason for buying the 4Runner over all other options. Hope space isn't constricted on the new.
well since the new 4runner will likely ditch the option of a third-row seat, they could put the batteries in the second row just like most other Toyota hybrids and like the Tundra and Tacoma. that way, you can still get an almost completely flat cargo space like in a rav4 hybrid for example
@@huanronghu4432 gonna guess they’ll be like the Tacoma and Tundra, the four cylinder turbo will have the third row option, but the iForce Max hybrid will not like the new Land Cruiser.
@@astralzombie i think the third row will be deleted because the land cruiser 250 (prado in other markets) doesn't have it for the hybrid, and the cargo space may slightly shrink to be just smaller than the sequoia but remain at around 80 cubic feet of space. we shall see
If dealerships don't try to add on $10,000 market adjustments, I will consider getting a 6th gen to replace my 2004 4Runner Sport. If dealerships get greedy, then I'll drive my 2004 for another 5 or 6 years.
Damn I'm sooooo happy I bought a 2024 4 Runner with 4.0 litter 5 spd. auto!!! I'd never buy the 2.8 with turbo,...trust me im a Master Line Tech for Nissan with hybrid and EV. experience so this isn't an armchair opinion FWIW!!
love your videos. i wish i was exited about this truck but its going to be a small engine turbo which im not a fan of and based on the gas mileage all the other small displacement turbo trucks including the new tacoma its not going to be much better and as far as power on the non hybrid turbo engine will be questionable because of heat soak. time will tell but im not sold. i just wish the 4.6 was an available option across the board😥
A little bit off subject; have you heard anything about Toyota bringing back the FJ Cruiser? There's a rendering circulating showing a more curvy aerodynamic designed one with big wheel/tire package, looks amazing! Thanks!!!!
I might be mistaken for 2024 models but KDSS was an option on TRD Off Road and TRD Pro variants of the 4Runner from 2018 to 2023 while I was selling ‘em. :-) I bet it will be offered on some 6th gen’s too! I don’t believe I ever saw it on a Tacoma though.
What's the most comfy, spec'd out, lux trim for a Yoter 4Runner. Has to be 2019+ don't want to go older. This will be a pavement queen and for tinkering. All glam type of daily.
If that window and tag position are accurate I don’t think there’s room for a retractable rear window. As for the rear wrap covering, could easily be repurposed from a Lexus model.
this is the 42nd Model year of the 4Runner debuting for the 1984 model year and yes there had been SUV's popular prior to that such as the Ford Bronco FJ Land Cruiser Jeeps etc. for example the original Ford Bronco debuted for the 1966 model year and was discontinued in 1996 due to falling sales and fallout from the OJ Simpson low speed police chase
That's absolute conjecture. The OJ Simpson murder trial had nothing to do with its discontinuation. A prototype 2-door Bronco aka 1997 Expedition was developed in the early 90s and vetoed months before that chase took place. Planners felt the Explorer Sport was sufficient and more suitable size wise. Bronco was revisited in 1998 and killed by Firestone.
Toyota needs to grow a pair and offer factory 35s, removable roof/doors, and competitive pricing. They ought to be able to dethrone the Bronco Badlands Sasquatch in every shape, form, and fashion. At a minimum they need to offer optional factory 35s otherwise it is a failure in my eyes.
in the Middle East, we never had the 4runner beside the hilux based first gen, unfortunately. We, along with asian and Australian markets, get the Fortunner, an SUV hilux. also in the Middle East were getting the Prado LC250 in the non hybrid T24 and the non hybrid 1GD diesel; no 48V here. i think Toyota doesn't like to mix batteries and sand much. they alluded to something in those lines in their Hydrogen V8 video. You know what else we are NOT getting? the GX550!...everybody and thier dogs (and thier dogs' pets) have an LC300 here but still i would've chosen the GX550 or even the 4runner over the $80k-100k LC300.
You can complain about it, but you guys rejected the GX 460 and Toyota wants to punish you for that. Just like Americans with the C-HR and Juke. Much better next generations, omitted from USA. It always happens
@@chezzyperson3339 yes, but Crown Signia are more of an upscale Toyota that are made in Japan, they aren't cheap, it's expected they have starting price of 43-45k. They can make a cheaper 2 row Highlander that starts in the 35-37k range made in North America.
Mix between Front and overall body, gonna be look like the Tacoma 2024 model. At rear looks like the Lexus GX 2024 ( if not then Land cruser's rear). 2.4L L4 Turbo iForce engine with 270 HP and 310 lb.-ft of torque or 2.4L L4 Turbo iForce engine with 278 HP and 317 lb.-ft of torque.
