Spiegle said during the interview that he played in the Goldkette band with Bix for 9 months.

Speigle's appearance reminds me of a fine cornetist I knew named Hal Donovan (now deceased.) Almost all the musos I knew are deceased.

Funny that the only interviews I have seen on video that featured Speigle Wilcox had him paired with another musician, not him alone. I saw a video of him paired with Bill Davison.

Spiegle had an early career that included work with Bix Beiderbecke in Jean Goldkette's band. Then he left music for most of his life, and had a traditional job in oil and coal. Later on, when Spiegle was in his 70s, people began to realize he was the last man standing who had played with Bix, and promoters began to seek him out, and after he retired from his "real job" he returned to life in music. But there was a gap of about 50 years where Spiegle was not involved in music performance. You probably see him with other musicians because this is where his comfort level was.

Thanks, I appreciate the interest in replying. At 86 this coming September I would love it if someone "realized" I had played with now deceased Chicago Jazz musicians: Floyd Bean, Doc Cenardo, Chuck Hedges, Dave Remington, Jimmy Ille, Danny Alvin, John "Punch" Thomas, Wild Bill Whalen, Hal Donovan, Frank Chace, and many others--- but that was later, not in the 20's ;).

Anyone really interested in Speigle Wilcox will be disappointed IMO. Too many interruptions by the reed player.
