Contra-rotating propellers are used to counter the torque effect, thus reducing vibration. They wont effect the pods being used for side thrust. If anything, side thrust will be more efficient.

I like the Feadship. It looks like it could be from "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", right alongside the Nautilus. The bow panorama room will be great. I recently saw interior shots on a new boat that has one, while the boat was under way. A totally different perspective & a terrific idea, wherever it came from. I'm calling bull***t on this HVO 90% CO2 reduction/net zero, whatever. This clearly sounds like a fudge of the numbers. Maybe if it's mostly not a hydrocarbon, but then you have to burn ~ 3 times as much of it to get the same amount of electricity, and it probably costs 5 times as much for the same kwh. For example, you don't get any CO2 if you burn hydrogen. But you also don't get much energy for an equivalent amount.

Agreed, Engineers and Managers here (in NL) are great at green speak, as long as it works on the spreadsheet. Just don't actually go and see how it's working in real life. The Health authorities here have started to call out business and local government on this kind of spin. Particularly around waste materials polluting the environment.

By this it would appear super yacht owners are willing to "go down with the ship" Viewers of your channel love boats of all kinds. Can you please comment as to the psychology of "superyachting".

@@rae0521 How much money we make isn't related to dick size. Yachts like this provide many jobs and feed families for years, during the build and throughout their service. Often owners are aboard for a relatively short time each year, and the boats are chartered to businesses etc the rest of the time

Europter rebranded into Airbus Helicopters but you are spot on with the 145 designation. Perfect yacht helicopter. Interesting note was that Octopus (Deceased Paul Allen's yacht) enjoyed both Sikorsky S-76 and Airbus 135. They also had an MD-900. The S-76 is a terrible yacht helicopter but looked amazing landing onto Octopus rear and main helipad at the time.

@@derlangsame7813 I would expect it is more to do with the light and quick handling characteristics landing on a deck that is rising and falling quickly. The S76 is pretty big and more suited to the stability of a ship, whereas the smaller rotaries would handle like a sports car and be handier landing on a yacht deck, especially in a bit if a sea. My thoughts only to an interesting question.

My first superyacht job was in a vessel with an extendable hanger which housed an Agusta 109-E. Amongst other things I was the Flight Deck Officer and managed to get a couple of rides. The 74 yr old Boss was also the pilot. We took the Budgie (Angry Palm tree) across the pond and toured the Caribbean plus other places.

What an obscene sight. I am all in favour of free enterprise and thoroughly believe in personal effort and the rewards which endeavour and hard work can bring. However, like all things, there are limits. The purchaser, private person, or corporation spending over an agreed financial figure on personal real estate should be required to deposit an equal amount of the price into a social fund.

04:10 - Counter rotating thrusters (propellers) work like a force multiplier, there are even some larger commercial/military helicopters with rotors like this as well. When docking a large yacht that has independent rudders you turn them inward to increase pressure, this is almost the same principle. I believe this tech is a spin off from steam turbine design rotor stages alternate in specific sections to compress air. Wait till they start to employ Toroidal tip-less props, that are 40% more efficient and near silent (the shafts will still vibrate of course if they are not absolutely horizontal).

LOL Biodiesel is introducing lots of problems and lots of extra cost. It will be interesting to see how long she can sail before breaking down.The props shown in this video look to be mounted on shafts, they are just not very long. The builder is kind of misleading folks.

I've got an idea for a zero emissions superyacht...don't build a superyacht! Seriously, no problem with people indulging themselves, but it's a bit disingenuous to praise a superyacht for its sustainable characteristics. If you've built a superyacht it's already too late. Missed this somehow when it first posted. Wonderful treat now. Blooper had me cracking up... a very grainy but... 😮😅 I think I like Bezos' support vessel better than the one it supports. I love the crane, for starters. I wish Spielberg the best, thanks for the information on his new toys. I'm curious to know what if any kind of theater or place for music type activities he has. I can see him inviting his friend John Williams out for some time together.

About the Feadship. This vessel is a real eye catcher. Howevever the way the windowa loop around the bow, I feel will be a trouble in a seastat that waves ram into those windows. I feel that that alone negates the overall design, making it dangerous.

Oh, I don’t think it’s dangerous - the boat is certainly in Class and every aspect of that feature certified, approved, and regularly inspected by surveyors. It’s cool but it’s just unlikely to be used much, especially in a head sea. On the other hand, owners rarely make crossings, and virtually never in rough weather.

It is indeed an EC H145 with the new 5 blade low vibration main rotor head Most of the H145 series up until recently have a 4 blade head and have an electronic vibration attenuation system. But I’m sure you didn’t really want to know that😊

Looks like an H135 (EC135) variant. H145's are based on the Kawasaki BK117 and have a conventional tail rotor. Great stuff as always. Thanks!

HVO fuel still produces CO2 and NOx, although in small amounts and is most certainly NOT carbon neutral and neither is any other part of the ship.

Is AIS a legal requirement? You often mention AIS being switched off but I was under the impression it's a requirement not a courtesy? If all these russian vessels switch it off can they not be arrested for that alone?

The new Feadship technology sounds extremely interesting, and anything that will help the planet by the reduction of emissions is an extremely exciting advancement especially if this enables future yacht builds to incorporate this technology into their builds as well. However, aesthetically the yacht is about as appealing as a root canal.

Beautiful yacht, but let's face it. "Zero emissions" is a crock of s... claim. There may not be gas emissions at the yacht, but in order to get the electricity charged, and the batteries made, there are 10x the emissions at power plants and mines.

And what do you care if they are spending more of their mlm money on something? It's like in the housing market, if you like a house and someone buys against you, you offer more to the seller. It is their money, they can do what they want with it. Has nothing to do with you or others. Why? It is their money. They don't have to do anything, they don't owe anyone anything. And they probably already give millions to charity. Why should they be obligated to put money in a social fund? And those charities and funds hardly ever give it to the people that should get them none of it actually makes it to the community.

A biofuel does NOT "reduce" the CO2 emissions of the yacht. What it does do is reduce the NET CO2 emissions, as carbon was captured to make the fuel in the first place. However, it takes energy to make the biofuel. So it sounds a lot "better" then it truly is. It may well be better then burning fossil fuels, but don't think its carbon zero.

Yep, it is unimaginable. A mere 50-meter pays at least $32,000/month for dockage alone in South Florida, not including electricity. Insurance, crew payroll, fuel, maintenance, etc. If I told you what high-speed satellite internet costs per month you’d call me a liar.
