I've been looking for this sketch on RU-vid for ages & so glad I found it. I cracked up laughing when I 1st saw it & still do after all these years. How on earth Alan Minter didn't crack up laughing I'll never know !
...and Monty Python were never shy about mentioning their debt to Milligan. In an interview, during the genesis of Monty Python's Flying Circus, they decided that they would play with the form of the traditional TV show; then they saw Milligan's "Q5" show and lamented that he'd beaten them to it. Spike Milligan and Monty Python, comedy giants!
As a Jehovah's Witness of 20 years or so, I love the idea of this sport. I am going to walk down to the bus station and see if they sell boxing gloves.
...Spike was an absolute fruit cake...his madness was the inspiration for many comedians, but behind it all was a quiet, thoughtful man whose insane view of comedy gave us much joy. Gods bless the Goons.
