Pure #Joy as I figure out Spin Recoveries ON HEADING! (while test Flying the new A30 :)
Giveaways, 250+ back catalogue episodes +more at www.flightchops.com
To learn proper spin recovery technique, first and foremost, work with a qualified instructor - but also, watch the #Aerobatic training episode(s) I filmed with Luke :)
That said, this one is definitely NOT training - it’s just sharing my raw excitement and glee as I start to really figure out how to recover from spins with some degree of precision in the hopes to fly a competition; so really this is just sharing my debrief in that regard - I’m absolutely not endeavouring to train you how to execute, or recover from spins.
Here's a text Luke sent me after reviewing this rough cut:
“One observation …..
I’ve been watching you for many many years now and seeing you nail your spin recoveries is PROBABLY the most ecstatic I’ve ever seen you in a flying scenario :D“

FLIGHT CHOPS DISCLAIMER:
I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.

Got to this one late; lots going on here. Dave wondered if I could make it over to CAM yesterday; couldn't because of prior commitments. Still planning to be at the Annual General Meeting this month, via wings or wheels; we'll see. Glad the Bose A30 is out; hopefully it will help the used market of A20s. I'm a Bose guy, just like I'm a Garmin guy. I don't have the money available to invest in a new A30 yet, but I'm in the market for a passenger headset and it will be a Bose aviation headset. As for the aerobatics, I can't wait till I'm practicing them myself. We'll see when, where and how: I'll catch you up on my current status when we can talk in person. All current indicators are positive.

Some sweet flying there Steve - great to see the level of proficiency you are achieving... To hear the satisfaction in your voice when you achieve your goal and nail those exits (not fluke them) is inspiring. Mind you, I'm not about to do that in my RV10, and spins still get my sweaty! Great content, love your approach and appreciate the work you put in. All the best from down under

Great fun. I had spin training in a 150 years ago. Did 3 and a half turn spins. Held back pressure until the end of 3 turns and started the recovery and came out 180 degrees from start heading. (+ or minus) Now practice the spin recovery from slips and skids.

the overlay with the cloud a hoy is really cool, however I really like seeing what you are doing and find I'm overly distracted by that. Could you make it the opposite way where the cloud-a-hoy is smaller and the video of you flying is larger?
@FlightChops
@FlightChops Год назад
Hey Thanks Ben, did you watch the whole episode? There are multiple spins, and I covered each one slightly differently for this exact reason, so that the focus would be on different parts each time. It is also 4K resolution, so if you are watching on a big screen all the details are there even in the 4 way split.

Yeah that was an accidental render with the “flow stabilization” (or whatever it is called) locked onto a spot on the earth, and I was like, wow that is weird and cool :P. It really shows what is happening with the aircraft in a spin, although not showing what’s going on with control inputs.

I don’t know if that is a good or a bad thing, but it is a step up from the A20 in almost every way. And that’s saying a lot because the A20 has been, and continues to be an amazing headset after more than a decade!

Are you left-handed? Most righty pilots prefer right hand on stick, left on throttle when doing acro. BTW I purchased cloud ahoy solely from your videos, I actually never heard of it except on flightchops. Great piece of software.
@FlightChops
@FlightChops Год назад
Hey right on! CloudAhoy is a game changer for debriefing! And I’m not left handed, but I jump in and out of enough things that I’m fine flying it this way. But yes, I seriously looked at doing a left side throttle mod, or just flying that thing from the right seat for acro. In the end, I’m just used to it now.

Hey Steve! With the reduced clamping force of the A30s, do you ever feel like they slip off your head more often than the A20s?
@FlightChops
@FlightChops 4 месяца назад
Under normal ops, they are ok, but yeah, when pulling G's I'd need a strap or something which I didn't have time to sort out, so for training and competing last summer I was wearing the A20.

I talked about it more at the end (I'm assuming you didn't get that far?)... but I mean... I'm not a product reviewer; They know that, and didn't expect me to spend a lot of time on it in one episode. I'll share more insights from other types of flying - like when using it on an IFR flight, I noticed more about the clarity and how good the mic is at cutting out ambient sounds - but that wasn't something I was going to get into in this episode.
