People seem to look down on spincast reels but what I like about them is the ability to easily adjust the drag right on top, while reeling. It’s a lot harder to do that on a spinning reel where the drag adjustment is on the front. I’ve been looking at these Silvercast reels as well as their Goldcast…based on the on-paper specs it seems like the Silvercast has more to offer for less money…more bearings and better retrieval rate…any thoughts?
Don't use reels to crank fish in, folks. Pump the rod. With rod always bent a little, reel tip down toward fish, stop reeling, pull fish toward you gently, until bent rod is high again. Repeat as necessary, until you land fish. Never crank reel while fish is pulling out line. That does nothing but twist up your line and wear out your reel faster. Set drag so fish can't break your line, but tires out trying. A submarine can't break your line, if drag is adjusted right.
@@davidlove7825 serious question…what is better about the goldcast? Looking at the specs the silvercast has more bearings and a better retrieval rate (4.3:1 silvercast vs 4.1:1 on the goldcast) thanks for any info you can share!
Gold cast has better gears and an oscillation system for better line lay. Only annoying thing is the clicking anti reverse. Daiwa should do an update on this reel but still very good.
I love my other daiwa product but this very silver caster is TERRIBLE. DO NOT BUY IT. SO many problems with it . First off , the handle is so loose on that thing it seems like it's gonna fall at any moment. I was braking like after line inside the reel, after inspection , I found that the skirt of the ''clutch'' was badly made and it was sharp ....had to sand it smooth. But the biggest problem is that the spring clutch is so weak that when I cast with a lure that's a bit heavy or a weight that's a bit heavy, the whip of my wrist to achieve a good distance activates the handle by itself making my clutch activated in mid air while my '' heavy '' lure or spoon or weight is flying full speed , thus breaking the line and loosing my set up. Lost 3 spoons and a popper like that before an actually realize what was happening. the result is it is now sitting on a shelf like a decoration. too bad because it looks good and seems to have good components but I ordered an vintage gold caster 508rl on eBay and this one ( made in Japan ) is FLAWLESS. NO PROBLEM whatsoever.
