I know what you mean. I took more damage in that section trying to do it the way the game wanted than I did in the rest of the entire game up until then to the point where I shouted "This is not the way I normally play!" I would've preferred to ride my tank instead. That said, if you attach powerful items to Mineru like frost talus hearts/silver boss bokoblin horns she does a pretty good job fighting for herself. Just riding her is inconvenient.

I actually think the Seized Construct boss fight is pretty outstanding, even though a lot of the content in the Construct Factory/Spirit Temple leading up to is mid.

@@Lytic1000 Yeah frost talus heart is good. But I'd just as soon stick it to the end of a durable spear and I have a long range quick durable very damaging instant freezing weapon that is easier to use than if I have to bumble around on Mineru's back. I will give you props for thinking of any way to make her decent in combat. As usual it involves adding the freeze ability. Freeze is so OP.
@Lytic1000

@@askthepizzaguy I don't actually ride Mineru after I put the frost talus heart on her arm. I just let her handle enemies that aren't in line of sight. My normal freeze and lightning weapons for fast disarms are gleeok horns on gerudo spears to get the double damage for the attachment + the special effects.

You'd think that the brilliant game designers at Nintendo would know that if they dangle a robot in front of you, they would need to make it powerful to live up to the hype But instead, we got something: 1. clunky to control, 2. doesn't even protect you, while you're in the depths getting hit by a billion enemies inflicting gloom damage, and 3. worst of all, hits like a literal wet noodle with its arms. They should have made it do double damage with Zonai devices or something. It was way more efficient for me to hop off Mineru and smack enemies around on foot.

Positives about Mineru- 1. You can use a cannon at basically melee range without taking damage, briefly, before it rapidly vanishes. 2. You can walk over gloom. That's the entire list.

Mineru's construct had so much potential but then just ended up being hugely underwhelming and an ability I could've done without entirely. Considering the effort you go through and how the game hypes her construct up, you'd think it would _be_ strong and effective in battle. Instead, it's just a huge hindrance and clunky to control.

Yeah, Mineru really sucks. Her base strength sucks and there aren't any things you can attach to really improve her. Not even a silver lynel horn. Her reach is abysmal and most of the times your swings go right over enemies. When she gets hit it is you that gets the damage. Even when they hit your feet. In other words she is just a big bullseye. For travel she isn't much better. By the time you get her, you can assemble better vehicles than her. She could be forgiven if her base strength would be the same as the base strength of you currently equipped weapon, but I don't think that is the case. THus you cannot even blame yourself for her sucking.

According to "The STATS behind Sages in Tears of the Kingdom" (this is a video title on RU-vid; not going to include the link because that seems to trigger RU-vid's spam filter), Mineru's arms deal 27 base damage, 40 damage at "level 2" (when you've upgraded her with four Sage's Wills), and 53 damage at "level 3" (upgraded bond + Zonaite Helm), effectively doubling her damage output with both buffs applied. Any fuses (monster parts or melee weapons) add the corresponding amount of damage. This isn't to deny that Mineru "feels" weak/underpowered, particularly against damage-sponge silver enemies, only to point out that she can deal substantial damage under certain circumstances, and the reason that she doesn't "feel strong" may not be easily ascertained from the stats/numbers alone. After all, 27 base damage (at "level one") is weaker than many late-game melee weapons, but only a little weaker than an unfused Master Sword (30 base damage), yet few people vocally complain about the Master Sword feeling "weak". This is only a guess, but I would hypothesize that Mineru "feels weak" to the majority of players because: A.) Nintendo encourages extremely weak fusions in the introductory area, such as spike balls and beam emitters (the latter do almost no damage by design, "draining" tiny amounts of health each second, and actually do less damage than Mineru's arms with nothing attached); B.) Mineru's arms are not quickly spammable like some weapons, but rather are slow-moving, and tend to send smaller enemies flying far away from her, thus exacerbating the length of battles, even apart from the question of damage; C.) Mineru has no spin attack, nor any ability to get huge (eight-times) damage multipliers from sneak strikes, although the triple-damage multiplier for breaking a frozen enemy still applies; D.) Melee weapons fused to Mineru's arms generally last for a maximum of 15 arm swipes, even if the weapon could have taken more than 15 hits when wielded by Link (still, if there are melee weapons, such as Gloom weapons, that you would rather not wield directly, or just don't have space for in your inventory, then it would be efficient to give those to Mineru). (Monster parts generally last for just eight arm swipes.) As someone who has defeated Lynels and Gleeoks with Mineru's construct, it is possible to use her effectively with the right fuses, but the most efficient way to use her is probably as a tool to traverse gloom/lava/tar, to easily mine for resources in the Depths with no loss to weapon durability or other resources, and by dismounting her for easy access to bullet time, rather than as a "battle bot" per se. It may also be more efficient to fuse powerful unused materials to Mineru but then dismount and let her AI do the actual fighting (even if her AI, like that of the other sages, is rather dumb). Outside of the Seized Construct itself, the only boss that feels specifically designed for Mineru is Frox, but she is paradoxically more fun to use against large bosses than waves of smaller, faster enemies. I can't imagine making it this late in the game with such a pitiful amount of battery, though....

@@JMurrinYT I did not realize she could essentially be double upgraded, and given her weak performance in this section that is supposed to showcase her abilities, I never upgraded her once. Nice to know there is some reward for investing in this thing, even if limited.

The Mineru construct is highly impractical for conventional combat (especially against large groups). However, if you think outside the box, she can save you a lot of trouble. For example, her unaided hands can break ore deposits in one hit without everything flying everywhere. And she makes a great footstool for airtime archery. Just mount, dismount, and you get airtime. This made frox battles a walk in the park.

Sins of Mineru: 1. Requiring your battery power just to walk slowly. 2. No increased damage when fusing with zonai devices 3. Link takes damage far too easily, and the shield kinda sucks. 4. Walking around is too slow. Moving fast with like a fan on your back is also pathetic, uses durability on the fan rapidly, not much bang for your buck. 5. Durability is too short for just about everything. At least give me like double the durability for unlocking this machine that isn't even as good as a mech I can build out of zonai parts. I can use a cannon that doesn't break in like 15 shots, it's called the zonai cannon. I strap one of those to a stake and I have a better robot than Mineru because it keeps firing. I can put it on a vehicle that moves much faster, longer, using less power, with wheels, and it will last 30 minutes. WHY am I putting it on Mineru if it's going to break in 2 seconds. 6. The simple stuff like that spiked metal ball should just be infinite durability on Mineru. Come on bro that's like 15 hp of damage, it's not a game breaking weapon. 7. "flight" with Mineru could have been cool, but it isn't. In the end, it's just another D tier buddy that smacks an enemy every 30 seconds. Tulin at least has non combat use and gets good headshots a lot. A tier. Rock man can break rocks, C tier. Gerudo lady can turn my arrows into lightning (if you can find her) and she's quick, she doesn't take 10 minutes to wind up a swing like rock man. B tier. This robot and fish boy are fighting for bottom of D tier. Fish boy has a fast spear attack, which means he will be more useful in combat than the battle robit. That means Mineru is the clear loser. I have five fighting companions and the battle robot is dead last in terms of combat effectiveness, even when I pilot it. Sadge. Proof Mineru sucks- there are no youtube channels showing off how awesome it is to fight with Mineru. It's always Link fighting with regular weapons or zonai devices or using a different ability to trickshot an enemy with rewind. NO ONE thinks fighting with Mineru is fun or cool. NO ONE.

You make a lot of insightful points. There were undoubtedly numerous missed opportunities to make Mineru more fun (or, perhaps, deliberate nerfs made to Mineru at some point in development because Nintendo doesn't want players to have too much fun). However, I have some slight objections to the following points: 1. Mineru is pathetic at low battery. However, with a fully maxed-out battery, and considering that the battery gauge for Mineru is the equivalent of Link's stamina wheel, Mineru effectively has more "stamina" for running than Link himself does. 3. As you state, mounting Mineru causes Link to inherit her enormous hitbox, which is the biggest "con" to riding her. (If Link still retained his standard hitbox, then mounting Mineru would be an entirely different experience.) However, Mineru's shield more than covers that entire hitbox, while leaving both of her arms free for duel-wielding. While mounting Mineru, it is possible to Z-target an enemy (ZL), thereby raising your shield, freeze the enemy with a frost emitter on your right arm (R), thus dissipating the shield, and then release the emitter (let go of R) and automatically project your shield again (assuming that you are still holding ZL). Additionally, if you dismount Mineru for bullet time, an alternative to immediately remounting her (and inheriting her hitbox again) would be to simply take cover behind her (same shield protection, but with no extra liability for Link). Finally, Mineru's shield actually has an increased window for parrying enemy attacks. 5. The durability point is only half-true. Yes, fusing Zonai devices to Mineru is considerably less efficient than attaching them to an autobuild. (Although Z-targeting helps with aiming these devices, particularly Zonai cannons, and is not possible on an autobuild.) However, outside of building vehicles/mechs yourself, fusing Zonai devices (e.g., frost emitters, flame emitters, and cannons) to Mineru is more efficient than fusing them directly to Link's shields/weapons (in which case, the attached devices would rapidly drain not only their own durability, but also that of the base shield/weapon). I would not dispute the rest of your criticisms (i.e., 2, 4, 6, and 7). For example, Mineru probably should not require such heavy fan consumption just to run at a good pace. Furthermore, Mineru's combat design and damage output fundamentally does not work well with the way that BotW/TotK scales/calculates damage. In point of fact, you might be very surprised to see how easily Mineru can defeat entire rows of early-game red enemies with just a single swipe of her arm, but she is not scaled (or upgradeable) to the extent that would increase her utility against damage-sponge silver enemies in the late-game. The only true "fix" for this problem is liberal use of a frost emitter, combined with the three-times damage multiplier for breaking a frozen enemy, to get Mineru dealing damage at a level that "feels" appropriate for a giant battle mech. Nevertheless, it would be difficult to avoid the conclusion that the mech concept (like so much of TotK) is compromised by having been forced onto the preexisting engine/combat system of BotW. (I would argue that the custom "Seized Construct" boss, specifically designed around Mineru's abilities and moveset, showcases the potential of this concept well, and is an outstanding boss, despite the Construct Factory/Spirit Temple as a whole being the most lackluster dungeon in the game.)

I ripped Mineru in a different comment, but in defense of the beam emitter, the beam emitter sucks. It does not do a lot of damage per second, not alone. You need a bunch of them, and/or you need them to be spinning rapidly so the damage procs many times in a single second, which increases the DPS. A single beam emitter sucks even when its not on mineru, usually. Although it is absolutely stupid how quickly it drains the battery while on Mineru. It's a battle mech, it should at least have efficient power usage. Instead it drains more rapidly than some nonsense I glued together that works better than Mineru does. So, in defending how poorly the beam emitter performs while on Mineru, I ripped both the beam emitter and Mineru and said they both suck. Objection withdrawn.

Times I used Mineru in my playthrough: when I was forced to (spirit temple), and to traverse the gloom when I couldn't afford to autobuild anything better. Honestly the concept of a semi-customizable mech is great, and goes with the systems of the game. But sadly it just feels clunky, and cumbersome

Mineru may not be the most efficient thing, but in the concept itself I still think it's really cool that they let you pilot a big robot possessed by the spirit of a goat woman. Besides, I wouldn't think it right if the game just gave you something that's the end-all-be-all of combat that fights for you, rendering it thus that you wouldn't have to do anything at all. Games can't do that _all_ of the time. (Though, it _is_ cool when they do) (Also, Mineru can parry, and I'm all for that) Anyways, regular notes-style comment now. 4:10 Following my "All weapons can be useful" edict, I tend to fuse a lot of random things to Mineru's hands whenever they're empty. Sometimes it's useful, sometimes it's not. But it's always fun! I like giving her the falling Ruins Rubble. 7:16 (It _was_ doing something--it slowly melts their health away, though it doesn't stagger them) 7:46 (If only there was an item that impromptu restored battery) 19:42 *Robot Woman 26:01 (Thank you Dan) Also, as a footnote. If you want a flippin' great robot player-character in a combat scenario, try the DLC for Age of Calamity. I will say no more than that.

I feel like a lot of people overestimate what mineru is supposed to be doing here. She doesn't feel super powerful because she was made and balanced like the rest of the sages. Her damage calculation is based on the fact that you can dismount and fight alongside her, regardless of what devices you have strapped on her, meaning that she can do pretty high damage passively. She's a little slow and clunky, but extremely utilitarian. I use her as an excellent caving and mining asset, being able to cut through large swathes of stone when equipped with rocks, and she's also free transport over gloomy ground. Combine all of this with the ability to freely use your bow from mineru and she's actually pretty reasonable, but she's not a replacement for just playing as link. At the end of the day, she's a sage just like the rest of them, and she's designed for you to spend most of the game with her fighting alongside you, instead of you manually piloting her

My favorite sage is easily Yunobo. He's useful for mining/excavation, scatters enemies with his attack (and does good damage when you upgrade him), does fire damage. I'd say Tulin next. I know that Riju and Sidon can be really useful and I've seen people use them a lot better than me but I don't use them as much. I thought the implementation in Breath of the Wild was better because it was one click or in Mipha's case automatic and you were there.

On my second playthrough, I did not ride Mineru at all through this section, and just walked to the target position, strapped a rocket on her, and got her to the platform. All the enemies were easier. All the movement was faster. I had more fun. I had no regrets. I don't even activate her sage power. I think she's a cool character concept and it's just not well executed.

Mineru is such a bad sage that it's better to turn her off than to deal with her mech. I got her out of order so I had her for most of the game, and the mech is just a nuisance. It blocks your view and you hop on it by accident and have to hit B twice to unmount. It's really bad and annoying. What was Nintendo thinking with this thing? Such a disappointing final sage.
