I checked your rendition out, it sounds wonderful!

I have no idea if I'll play The Sixth Station - I considered it, but somehow that song feels so incredibly depressing to me, I think the mood will have to be right for me to cover that one. Now that I already covered 3 Spirited Away pieces though I'll probably get around to it eventually!

It's probably up to technique? I do a lot intuitively so I can't really pinpoint anything specific that I do, but I know that playing softly and expressively always comes after I'm familiar enough with the piece - having better/ stronger technique than needed for a piece is what lets you control how you play, not just what you play. Oh and when practicing you start out strong to work up the strength to play a piece and get used to it, then you can comfortably work on expression. For me playing softly is a weakness too, since I often play things too lightly, stutter, or have notes not make sound at all - that happened in this cover too for example! So in the end I'd say - pay attention to technique, keep your wrists loose - tension is your enemy

@@Caliko Good choice : ) I feel that he's very precise about the use of pedal throughout the piece. I must admit that I lean a little towards Gilel's interpretation. Any favourites for the 2nd piano concerto? Mine is Evgeny Kissin.

I have thought about making a Mada Dame Yo cover (more of the theme itself than the song) for like... at least two years now. I absolutely *adore* the melody and the Rebellion soundtrack itself. With Mada Dame Yo I'm still struggling with making a coherent arrangement out of it, but it is slowly in the works! I'm definitely not yet done with the Madoka OST

@@Caliko Goodluck, do you just try to make it unique or do you write it in your own way? I'm 1 year into learning piano with a goal of remaking and modernising OSTs of old games. Any fundamentals or things you wish you knew when you started? Thanks

@@nite9560 How I arrange something really depends on the piece - some I stay very true to when arranging, trying to just get out as many voices from the original as I can without adding much myself. That's when I transcribe the piece exactly how I'd play it beforehand, example 'Never Leave You Alone' from the Madoka soundtrack. Then there are tracks I take my liberty with, as was the case with Decretum for example - I take a theme, sometimes transcribe the bare basics like the melody and the chords and then improvise off of that, playing to the point where an arrangement "emerges" on its own so to speak. This is why I have to transcribe most things only after I've already recorded them - a lot is coincidental and just going with the flow. It helps to listen to other arrangements to get ideas from. Some things I noticed while arranging - listen and play plenty of things other people arranged first to get a grasp on techniques. I can pinpoint almost every technique I use when arranging to a specific person who I learned it from - Animenz, Ishter, Kyle Landry, some classical composers. Become a master of left hand arpeggios because you will definitely need them. And structure! I learned that one much too late I think - analyze the structure of a piece when you learn it or listen to it. Is there an introduction? What is repeated, what is developed and how? I personally really enjoy quiet introductions and similarly quiet endings, you'd have to see what works for you!

It is, and while the price is unfortunate it was a great purchase - I've spent years carrying around folders upon folders of music which were... heavy, and since I moved between my college town and home a lot it could get quite tiring. No need for folders now, it's very practical indeed!

@@Caliko Yes and I use a numerical piano : there are bluetooth apps that show the notes you are playing in real time on the music sheet, it will only go forward if you play the right notes. (I tried it with Fantaisie Impromptu it makes everything much easier to learn) The Roland app is really good, but on the phone it's not very practical
