This channel demonstrates the highest level of research to reveal stories screen script writers couldn't imagine. As an aside it is amazing that researchers reveal realities that refute popular myths which a large portion of readers refuse to accept. Carry on, please.

I have to say there isn't any other channel like this at all. If you show this piece of footage to anyone they will just say, "Oh it's a 109 attacking a Hurricane." But the fact you've done this amount research concludes that it was on a blue on blue incident is fabulous. It would be interesting to see how many blue on blue dogfights happened where they did shoot the aircraft down.

Of course the most imfamous friendly fire incident was The Battle of Barking Creek, shortly after the outbreak of war, where a hurricane pilot was shot down by spitfire pilot Johnny Freeborn, and killed.

Two Hurricanes were shot down at Barking Creek. The fatality was Montague Hulton-Harrop.(Source: Cosford air museum and the Hulton-Harrop family).

I can well imagine that in the heat of battle, the odd "squirt" at a friendly was not uncommon. Indeed, if i remember my history correctly when they clipped the Spitfire Vb wings, they not only got some unwanted attention from friendly fighter's but also AA batteries also mis-identified them.

Those white and black gun camera footage could be very hard to find out who and what squadron the spitfires and hurricanes are from. Great research and video.

First kill by a Spitfire in WW2 was a Hurricane. Battle of Barking Creek.

Just goes to show in a fast moving dogfight it was very easy to miss identify targets. Probably happened far more than was reported.

In the heat of battle so called "friendly fire" was/is a problem on all sides...Not just from air to air..but also ground to air and visa versa...The US losing it's highest scoring P-51 ace to its own AAA on Christmas 1944...Also British AAA also shooting down an American P-51 ace on the same day...Both killed.
