Thanks for watching and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE!!I If you've already played it, lemme know how you felt about Splatoon 3's Hero Mode in the comments section below And if you haven't played it...Hey! Go Play It! It's Pretty Good!!
I haven’t seen anyone in the comments mention the Sheldon drone that appears on the pad next to the squid sisters after surveying the whole map that passively gets you chunks and money for 999 eggs
@@tetra_kirby5691 The point of splatoon weapon design is to repurpose common items, usually ones associated with water or paint. So yes, literally it is a stamp, but it was repurposed into a chainsaw.
I really like the start fake out honestly. It does a good job of showing how Octavio and Cuttlefish haven't changed yet which is important for the finale. And the levels were so damn short that I can't really complain about em. As for the angle shooter yeah thats just the sub in general, its at your feet level, I'm guessing its due to the fact that its a tripwire but eh idk how needed it really is. But once you know where it fires I found it fine. Line Marker is also its name in Japan so I use that. I am curious what didnt work well for you with squid surge, I've never had any difficulty with that mechanic. It'l be an actual crime if we don't get the space suit and captain gear. I agree OE is def better.
The interesting thing about Marigold is that she and the various staff members across Splattsville a fresh-water fish; unless they're all just somehow the same character. They're goldfish, which are fresh-water. Every other character that isn't an inkling or octoling are based on salt-water creatures, sea creatures; even salmonids, salmons can live in both fresh and salt-water. But goldfish are exclusively fresh-water. Am I overthinking this? Probably. But considering there's a sunken scroll on her/them, maybe there's something to it.
I thought the three collected things were gonna combine into like, a helicopter to fly over the fuzz around the rocket, really did not expect it to actually be a chainsaw hair trimmer machine thing
9:56 There’s actually an in universe explanation for what happens to the inkling’s ‘soul’ (for lack of a better term) in one of the artbooks. Basically when an Inkling is splatted their soul returns to a spawnpad and the spawn pressurize ink, restore and inkling/octoling back into their physical form. I know I probably explained this poorly and it still does raise a lot of questions, but it’s the best we got.
It kinda broke my heart when I lost for the first time and Mr. Grizz knocked the chainsaw out of my hands and said "It's mammalin' time" and mammaled all over Earth.
Splatoon 3 story mode was absolutely amazing. I can’t get over how incredible it is. I can’t believe I am saying this but I think it actually beat Octo Expansion for my personal favourite. Not for difficulty, but for the story, the lore, and the plot twists. The ambiance of Alterna is amazing to be in. The snowy and artificial environment feels so shrouded in mystery and I hope we get more lore about it in the dlc
Notable for walking everywhere in addition to the stickers you unlock a drone to dump all the extra power eggs you have into, each day you feed it 999 eggs and the next day you get a notification in the lobby terminal and get either a locker deco (which is how you get multiple moais) or food tickets, or 10k coins, or rarely TTCards, essentially its a second daily gatcha pull that uses story mode currency. IDK, pretty worth.
I didn't hate Splat2n's hero mode as much as Mr. Spaceman but I'd agree Octo Expac is best. The story was more compelling and the aesthetic was so much cooler. That final stretch where you were freeing yourself felt powerful. That said, Mr. Grizz and the Happy Little Workers motifs gave me chills. Definitely a much better final boss! Also, I haven't watched Chainsaw Man yet.
"You don't need to repeat any level" Say that to the person that thought after alterna was unlocked after beating every level with every weapon Hi, that's me
Pretty much agreed on all fronts. Octo just barely beats it out but it’s still fantastic. Really do hope to see more of Deep Cut when the DLC happens. Chainsaw
This was a pretty good breakdown of the pros and cons. For some reason I personally couldn’t get myself to enjoy ROTM anywhere near as much as Octo expansion, but it’s still a pretty solid campaign. I just think it relied way too much on previous mechanics. Like… do we really still need to be doing propeller lift levels in 2022? And I didn’t really like the final boss that much, felt a little too much like a playable cutscene (half of it is literally just a cutscene). I’m glad other people were able to enjoy it, though, and I’m really looking forward to the DLC. I hope they find a way to shake up the formula again, because I agree, we really don’t need Octo expansion 3
To be fair every story mode finally boss (except splat 1) feel like playable cutscenes. I’d say my big problem with the campaign was big man. He was way too easy if you fully upgraded the location ability.
@@explosivegrape I wouldn't say Tartar was a cutscene. Doesn't exactly feel like a boss fight, but was enough of a challenge to feel satisfying to me. Splat 1's Octavio is legitimately my favorite boss fight ever, so it'll be hard to top, but honestly I don't think they've even come close. And yeah, Big man was fun the first time because of the cool reference, but is probably the worst boss in the series overall
i know what you mean by feeling like a playable cutscene. i liked the individual ideas but the final section wasn't repeating a previously introduced mechanic so it felt out of nowhere
@Weston Floyd pretty sure the only one that didnt come back were the octoseekers, they were also only in one escape phase of OE and I think Nintendo forgot about them. But some of them like the Tentacooks and Octoballers only appear in like one level
"What's next" World tour, its going to be a world tour. Peices of evidence that support this include: 1: Marina and Pearl are on a world tour, which was revealed in a SRL post, and they where both used to tease it in the direct 2: cuttlefishes dialogue after you beat the campaign, being "being a hero, well... it's a real trip. A voyage if you will. Some kinda tour... where you go places", and in 2's campaign they hinted towards octo expansion with tartar in Marie's shack, so it's not like that would be the first time they've done that. 3: no that's pretty much it
Yeah you’re totally right honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it was some sort of inverse where we take the trains above and visit different old locations. They didn’t just make the map for no reason
When you go back to alterna after you've 100% it there's a little sheldrone that you can pay 999 power eggs to fly off and get you something each day. In my experience it's mostly been things for your locker but I did get some ability chucks one time.
Not into multiplayer so Splat falls off on me, but can I just say I LIT UP when I saw the clip of big man going into the ground and seeing that puddle colour. The the name and what he did after. So glad they referenced that. It was chainsaw good.
*revs chainsaw* Great video cap! I haven't completed all the levels in Story Mode (real life also demanded I spread it out over the course of a week) but I will say I did enjoy the overall story itself. The build up to it being Grizz was done well, even if his actual design was a meme. I was kinda hoping he'd be some kind of Grizzly-Tardigrade hybrid seeing as the latter is well, a water bear! I also liked the final stretch of levels (and in OE as well for the same reason) since they actually seemed to have a connected personality? They reminded me a fair amount of the test chambers in Aperture Science, honestly. One of the gripes I had with it though, very little commentary from Octavio about his people/soldiers now being used by someone else! Kind of the downside to getting separated from him after that initial encounter, I feel like he could've really benefited from being a part of the campaign in some way. Hopefully with Marina being who she is, he'll get some proper character development in the DLC.
Honestly, a level i really like for the name and dialogue alone is "octohoppers dont have a sense of humor (and they hate puns)". The diolague is literally just callie and marie making puns the whole time DESPITE IT MAKING THE OCTOHOPPERS MAD AND IT DOES NOT HELP 3 IN THIS SITUATION!! I like to think the octoballer level canonically comes after that one since they continue to make puns in it
Hot take: The alternative theory of Mr.Grizz being an inkling would've totally ruined the rest of story mode for me. The Alterna logs conclude with the reveal that it was the hopes and dreams of humanity that gave the people of splatoon 'souls'. Having the game end with an inkling being the grand world ending villain would just show that inklings and the like are doomed to make the same mistakes humanity did - proving Tartar right. I think that difference in motivate between those two and Octavio is very important. Octavio embodied that human desire to perseve, not wipe out all life.
That part where it suddenly goes evil dead on us with your ink/octoling losing a hand but replacing it with a chainsaw was out of left field. But I still love it
“Angle shooting” is a term that refers to playing underhandedly while still within the rules. I’m not sure where it came from, but it’s thrown around in competitive Magic the Gathering a lot Edit: the term comes from poker
To be fair, it's kinda obvious that Splatoon 2's Hero Mode is basically a retread of the first game's due to the original game being on the Wii U and Nintendo obviously wanted to onboard anyone who hadn't played the original, since the Switch turned out to be way, way more successful. I honestly like it for what it was.
Splatoon 3 Hero Mode is where the overwhelming majority of my hours went so far. I'm a total beginner to Splatoon; never played 1 or 2. A lot of fun and creative levels, and I'm super glad I didn't have to beat any one level more than three times. Yes, I 100%'d it with *every* weapon option. I think people called this 1000%. I don't think there was a single level in the game besides the bonus postgame level where I couldn't find at least one weapon that could clear it quickly, so it is definitely a beginner-friendly mode. I enjoyed the lore and music a lot, too. The "spiderman" level music as well as the music from the fourth stage of the Rocket level are now on my playlist. There were about 10 levels where I had a huge amount of trouble clearing it with one particular weapon, and the majority of them were ones in which you had to destroy targets in a time-sensitive manner. The 60 balloon mission and the clay-shooting mission, both with the Classic Squiffer, can rot in hell. I spent about 2 hours grinding through each of them like a chainsaw grinding through a tree. As for the Nintendo Treehouse mission that has apparently grown to become infamously hard with the bow, I had a lot of fun working on it until I finally got it right. It definitely felt like the level was designed to be fun with it. The secret bonus level, I found the 1st (platforming) section and the 3rd (puzzle) section rather easy. Only had one death in each. Mostly because I played them very slowly and methodically with no time limits. the 2nd (rail shooting) took me an hour and a half and the 4th (the Octolings) took me nearly 2. So yeah, definitely some very rough patches to push through, but it was all a great time. Feeling like I could take on some Octo-Expansion-like difficult levels and love it. I was thinking it'd be cool to try it myself but Splat 2's still $60 and the DLC still $20. 80 bucks for 80 levels and a dead multiplayer scene is a very hard pill swallow so I hope we get another huge, high-quality single player campaign in upcoming Splat 3 DLC. In case anyone's wondering, I'm only Level 11 and I'm turfing ground in Turf Wars with the Aerospray and Reef-Lux. Trying to figure out ways to get better. People keep saying I should play Motion Controls. Maybe sometime I'll 100% (not 1000%) the story again with motion controls to get comfy with that, too. Great video; thanks for the review.
Honestly a lot of these criticisms just seem like issues you personally had from lack of using specific moves or sub weapons, the angle shooter is perfectly fine, and the squid surge is really easy to use once you use it a handful of times
And you didn’t mention how by completing every level with every weapon you unlock the shell-drone which gives you any items you previously found in alterna, ranging from decorations, tickets, or money
Honestly, I hope the DLC story involves Salmon Run heavily, especially if you can get Grizzco weapons like the blaster or the chainsaw. Maybe the real Mr. Grizz flies back down to earth and learns from his mistakes, and he refines the fuzzy ooze to be removable, so we can get furry ink/octolings as a customization option similar to Octo Expansion unlocking playable Octolings
first of all, great video as always. love your stuff, seriously. and don't be so harsh on your old videos, they're not good, but like, they're not *bad.* i've seen way worse lmao. at least most of them are still funny. my own takes: ough i have quite a few thoughts on splatoon 3 hero mode. preface: i really liked return of the mammalians and 100% agree with your campaign rankings, though im not sure it would be a cloooose second, just second. i do kinda have my own criticisms tho regarding the presence of callie, marie, cuttlefish, and cap 3 (why were they there??) and deep cut (i wanted the game to double down on them being goofy assholes, i think it would've been funny) but i actually loved the story for most of the same reasons you detailed, especially what you said about little buddy. loving the story is kinda a hot take among other splatoon lore nerds because they think it's really dumb, but idk, i don't want splatoon to start taking itself seriously or go full edge, lmao. also i'm still super relieved grizz isn't a human. have a good one!
I'm sorry, but saying "squid surge doesn't work" while showing a moment that was voted #1 Most Skill Issue in the high school yearbook is just a little funny. Otherwise, great review and I overall agree with your take on the game!
4:00 this actually isn't too much of an issue because everything that has actually important stuff is visible the ones that only little buddy can find only include power eggs
1:37 For someone who only started with Splatoon 3, the fake out start was a great way to get used to controls and basic mechanics. Having full gun and armor is cery noob friendly lol. The lil' plastic gun you get in Alterna would have put me in pain
I think my three biggest complaints for the story mode in Splatoon 3 were: 1. A lot of the levels were extremely short. Some shorter than others. 2. A lot of the levels felt compact and closed off compared to the bigger open areas in the first and second game. 3. There are less bosses than the other games and the bosses didn’t feel as surprising since you mostly knew what/who they were going to be after the first boss. I liked reaching a boss in the other two games and being greeted with an ominous silhouette of them before entering the level.
i also did the entire simgle player in one sitting and i had already taken a chainsaw to my sleep schedule and started at midnight. so i was in a constant state of sleep deprivasion the entire time through. fun times
I don't know how I quite feel about the story mode in Splatoon 3. On the one hand you get more character interactions, a great final battle and some cool bosses. But I feel like it was even more of a letdown then Splatoon 2. Probably because the levels feel way to short, too easy and took away the exploration aspect of the first two games. Since they decided to take the Octo expansion pack route of level designing. Of course the DLC is amazing since it was meant to be harder with a lot of variety in it's challenges. But in Splatoon 3 it didn't meet those expectations and it doesn't really match well with it's story. Since there's very little point into going the challenges except for getting the salmon eggs to remove the fuzzy ooze. Which it feels like were wasting our time dragging across the levels instead of having fun in those levels.
7:50 I recently got and started playing XenobladeDE so needless to say that line was the funniest shit to me Now I can't help but imagine the final boss but MetalFace double-teams on Grizz alongside Hugefry, which needless to say, its hilarious both as a mental image, and imagining what MetalFace would be like in that situation
Chainsaw. Also this about something mentioned in the spoiler section. . . . . . . This has been mentioned elsewhere but in addition to everything else you pointed out about Lil Jud, if you play him in Tableturf all his cards are salmonid cards and his card sleeve is salmon run themed.
6:29 You also get access to the Sheldrone which will find and send a random item to the lobby for you to pick up once a day if you pay the drone 999 power eggs.
Also by 100% completing the map in alterna you unlock a drone that gives you stuff (mostly decorations)! It's just a way to spend power eggs but neat nonetheless
During the credits you actually see mr Grizz alive floating in space so I think he’s still running Salmon Run and we were supposed to take his dialogue as him saying he’s done with the evil plans and just doing salmon run for fun now?
Chainsaw please, Ser; I need a Captain to sail me through the moonless nights so I can live again, and I trust you to be a true Captain for my FriendShip, please. Take it and don't give it back away ever again, please.
I can’t wait for the Splatoon 3 DLC story where we must defeat Liquid Judd and his Metal Gear because he believes himself to be the inferior clone to Lil Judd.
i just started playing when 3 came out and wow i am obsessed. this is my first shooter and i finally beat the story mode just to find the extra level. i NEED to beat it for my sanity but i'm 200+ attempts in at this point. when you said it took you 50 minutes i almost cried lol chainsaw
just out of curiosity for your ranking do you think octo & 3 or 1 & 2 would be ranked differently if the order was reversed (2 before 1, or 3 before octo)? and if so is it mostly the "been there done that" that ranks the second of each type lower?
if you look at the hidden log you see mr grizz's younger self and his original form per se. I think its pretty safe to assume that when we shooted the fuzzy ooze out of him, he just shrank. the ooze was making him furrier and bigger. what makes me think this is the fact that the after alterna grizz statue is just a small average bear, but now featuring big buddy (i dont remember his name in english)
4:05 You actually don't need that ability to locate treasure on binoculars! In fact the binocular sensor was the reason I wanted the sensor ability 😅 I thought I'd be able to find the treasure with the sensor normally... I was so disappointed
ROTM SPOILERS - . . . . . . While I REALLY liked the stage design of ROTM, tbh I felt like the ending, while good, was a bit… lackluster? The whole rocket section felt copy pasted structurally from Octo Expansion, the final boss was just… too obvious. Mr. Grizz being an actual mammalian bear felt lame and kinda dumb, and it didn’t help that his motivations were the exact same as Tartar’s. The whole Hugefry thing I will consider dumb unless they add an actual explanation for it instead of just “power of friendship” nonsense (like maybe Hugefry being another King Salmonid type like Cohuzuna?) The lore stuff we got from the Alterna Logs was really good though - it cleared up my biggest gripe with Splatoon lore (how did everything evolve so fast).
Chainsaw My biggest complaints are the lack of content (20 fewer levels than Octo Expansion without being better.) and the fact you can straight up skip most of it. Also the fact that secrets in levels are now bonus eggs rather than scrolls, but instead of a substantial 200-1000, it's like, 20. While this had the best overworld of any Splatoon game, the lack of worthwhile in level collectables while also being longer levels than Octo Expansion made them feel less substantial.
I have to say three story mode was really good, the best in the franchise in my opinion as it took what worked from octo expansion. Octo Expansion has the best missions and levels that where challenging and not easy like three and the previous instalments. The Wii U campaign is a great start and I enjoyed it. Wii U and octo expansion are the only two campaign that I fully completed twice in the franchise. Two story is just a water down version of the Wii U and I personally just heavily dislike two as a whole. The new chain saw weapon is neat and I found it enjoyable in three's story.
4-5 hours on story mode?? Tbf I am a major completionist so of course I had to do everything (right now I'm completing all levels with all weapons) and it took me a solid week all in all. Rail shooters are my biggest enemy
To be Fair, Splatoon 2’s Hero Mode ended up the way it is because not only was the Wii U’s sales poor but not many have even played Splatoon 1 at all. Plus Splatoon 2 was also rushed in addition because Nintendo needed games to go alongside the Switch’s Launch. So can you really blame them for re-using the same story under another strict time limit again?
