The sad thing about Splatoon's ost is that it is so varied that you could make an entire video on the single-player soundtrack alone, but overall I also love the “sporty” atmosphere of the multiplayer songs, even if the campaign has some of the weirdest, grooviest tracks.
4:33 the reason now or never is only 1 minute long is because it was designed to play at the one minute left mark in turf wars to make the last stretch more hype
“It’s just a bunch of sounds” she doesn’t know it’s made by underground civilizations almost forgotten by the surface inklings and is meant to give a alien-unknown vibe
for a bit of context the game features two distinct "cultures" one of the squids and one of the octopus (inklings and octolings). Music from the squids is very much rock and punk inspired while Octopus music is very electronic and chock full of samples, the line between the two cultures is blurred in splatoon 2 leading to more variaty in music and almost completly erased in splatoon 3 give it a super chaotic mix of the two and many completly new sounds and styles.
4:25 fun fact! Now or Never has been used in every game, this version is specifically the one for Splatfests in 1, there’s also the normal version for 1’s turf wars and then 2 and 3 also have different covers for normal and splatfest matches. It’s so cool to hear them all and see the growth. (Also double fun fact: the normal 3 ver of NoN plays at a faster tempo if I remember right so it repeats some parts to keep with the 1 minute limit.)
Octoweaponry is a boss theme against extremely wacky bosses. Such as a box with barbie doll legs or a shark on the line of cute and ugly while also looking like a microphone. Basically the song changes between themes (atleast i think so i havent played splatoon 1)
What I love about Splatoon series' music is that the three major cultures are the overworld civilization culture dominated by inklings, which is responsible for most of the Splatoon music (battle, menu hub themes) then there's the underground Octarian civilization who has a much more strange, alien feeling musical style (like Octoweaponry in this video; their music are in the Story Mode levels where you are invading Octarian bases to Octarian music) and then in Splatoon 2 and 3, there are the Salmonid clans, which are another entirely different culture, more tribal and with a completely different set of moral principles and way of life etc, so doing Grizzco shifts in the shores where the Salmonid are you'll play to their very discordant and almost nonsensical music as you fight them off
Daily reminder that the Octarian's invented a new music genre called Octatronica. The Salmonid basically did as well but it doesn't have an official name so most people just call it Salmoncore
Everybody's saying Tentacular Circus is even weirder than Octoweaponry but may I also suggest: Octoling Rendezvous (fun fact, this is the one song that's stayed the same throughout all 3 games!)
"Ink Or Sink", "Kraken Up" and "seaskape" were all made by the same band! That's kind of the reason as to why they sounded similar! :3 (If you want more of the excellent weirdness that is splatoon music, then i recommend for "Salmon Run music" and you'll see why lol)
Octoweaponry plays at the boss battles of the story mode. Each boss has three phases and the song changes whenever u beat on of their phases. Honestly the best way to experiment the music of Splatoon is by playing the games cause context really really matters for the songs lol
I would really appreciate it if you did a video reacting to the 5 new songs in splatoon 3 that came out over the past 4 months. Believe me, you will be blown away. Edit: It would also be amazing to see a reaction to some of Dedf1sh's music from Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion. A couple that I have in mind are: #8 regret, #1 progress, and #9 party
Interesting that you chose to listen to the splatfest version of now or never, you should give the original a listen too though! PS: Octoweaponry plays during single player boss fights, which has a different mix for each phase (which is why the song sounds different as it progresses).
There is SO MUCH to the music in Splatoon, there’s just no good way to do it in comments, so you should do more with the game, but, octoweaponry plays in hero mode boss battles, hero mode is underground. Other music is made by surface dwelling bands, mostly inklings, while hero mode is mostly from Turquoise October.
1:22 all of those "little dudes singing" are voiced by actual people with lots of effects layered over their voices, such as a low pass filter constantly changing the frequency filtered.
It’d be so fun to see you react to splatoon’s salmon run music! Salmon run is a separate online game mode where you work under a shady probably illegal company called grizzco to go and steal eggs from salmon creatures. The music is disorienting, odd, frantic, rough, and extremely unique. It’s all canonically made by a fictional band of salmonids that goes by the name of omega-3
List of bangers from the top of my head. (That are yet to be listened to Calamari Inkantation Nasty Majesty Big Betrayal City of Colours Daybreaker Anthem Maritime Memory Shark Bytes Tidal rush
I would really like to see her reacting to bottom feeders and omega 3 and off the hook's new songs. I think dedfish tracks also has this weird vibe feeling. Their version of splattack is probably the best of them all. Alterna's ost is really fun but not as weird as Octo expansion
Ahh, the memories of playing this game when I was still young and innocent, years and years ago… Seriously to teens, young adults and over this music is very nostalgic 💗
Okay very very long paragraph to provide context and info up ahead Splattack, kraken up and seaskape were all written by the same in game band, hence why they feel so similar to eachother. Every song in game has a fictional band with fictional band members attached too it with their own style of music and specific vocals, the band that made those songs is called squid squad btw. Related but not super important to that is the song split & splat was made by a band called the chirpy chips, they've appeared in every game and their main thing is that they incorporate alot of chiptune into their songs The song octo weaponry plays during regular boss fights (aka all except the final boss) and it doesn't play out exactly like you hear it, rather the boss has multiple phases and every time you enter a new phase it adds an instrument to the song. So when you start the fight it sounds like the first bit of the song but by the final phase it has all the instruments and sounds like the final part of the song. The song now or never plays in the last 1 minute of an online game(hence it being 1 minute long) and it appears in every game being covered and remixed by different in game artists. The one you listened too actually isn't the original, it's a special variant that played during splatfests, which are a limited time mode that happens once every month. It's worth looking into now or never in other forms and in other games as it can be cool to see how the game's music style has evolved over time
So a bit of context for Splattack. Yes, the one in this is the ORIGINAL version. Whereas every other song afterwards has been a cover of it and all made by different artists in the world of Splatoon, Octo Expansion had a cover by DEDF1SH which was more glitched and corrupted while using samples of the original. And in Splatoon 3 there is a cover by the band C-Side which is the same song but entirely new instruments and vocals. And then a remix in Smash Ultimate's ost
I hope you do touhou music in the future. The entirety of the series help caused the creation of undertale and all of its music. As a plus the creator of the series is very lax with the copyright for his characters and music which allows for anyone to create derivative works of touhou from song remixes to selling your own games. For some song suggestions they are Gensokyo the Gods Loved, Broken Moon, Maiden's Capprico, Love Colored Master Spark, Flowering Night, Hartman's Yokai Girl, and U.N. Owen Was Her.
Don't forget Theme of Eastern Story, Entrusting This World to Idols ~ Idolatrize World, Memento of the Avaricious Beast, Memento of All Organisms ~ Memory of Fossil Energy, History of the Moon ~ Gensokyo Millenium, Solar Sect of Mystic Wisdom ~ Nuclear Fusion, Unlocated Hell, Strawberry Crisis, etc.
Nice to see you listen to Splatoon music. But i would recommend listening to the songs made by the idols. Also known as the Squid Sisters, Off the hook and Deep cut
There are actually 7 official splatoon versions of now or never. The one you listened to was the second version. The original was on splatoon 1 as well, but the one you listened to only played during special events called splatfests. The original played all the other times. There are splatfests in every game, so two versions of now or never in every game, except Splatoon 3 has a third version that plays during the last three turns of a card game called table turf battle. The original now or never was by Squid Squad, the second one, the one you listened to was by the Squid sisters, the third in Splatoon 2 was by Wet Floor, the fourth that played during splatfests in 2 was by Off The Hook, the fourth that plays in Splatoon 3 is by C-Side, the fifth that plays during splatfests in 3 is by Deep Cut, and the last one that plays during table turf is by Ancho-V games.
you missed rating my favorite Splatoon 1 band. Hightide Era. You should not look Splatoon as a soundtrack, but every music in the game has an in game band and rate the band accordingly.
Back again for more context on Splatoon music. Almost all of the songs you chose this time are battle themes, so the high energy is here. Ink or Sink is one of the most common songs to hear in Splatoon. It's also made by Squid Squad, the most popular band from the first game Kraken Up is featured in both Splatoon and Splatoon 2 Now Or Never, a fan favorite. This song plays only in the last minute of a turf war - but this specific version of the song is a splatfest cover of the original Now Or Never. The version you listened to is a teen pop cover performed by the very first idol group in the splatoon series. Nothing in particular to say about Seaskape, it's just a bop Split And Splat is one of my personal favorites, but still nothing in particular for me to say there again Octoweaponry is the area boss theme of Splatoon's story mode. Four bosses play this before you reach the final boss, who has his own unique theme Splattack is the poster child of Splatoon music. It was the first song we heard in its initial reveal in E3 2014. It made a return in Splatoon 2's dlc, Octo Expansion, featured as a remix and the boss theme of Agent 3 (the character YOU played in the first game.) It also gets remixed again in Splatoon 3, having been used again to announce the game in the 2021 February Nintendo direct. It's the most well known battle theme in the series. In every game it was performed by incredibly noteworthy bands; in Splatoon 1 it was performed by Squid Squad, the most popular band of that game. In Splatoon 2 it was performed by Dedf1sh, the DJ behind the music of Octo Expansion. In Splatoon 3 it was performed by C-Side, the most popular band in that game. It has a reputation of being THE representative of Splatoon music for a good reason
I would love to see a dead cells video, but just so you know those themes are usually five minutes long if not more. Also some sort of Pikmin video would be amazing too. Love the work!👍
Someone needs to have you listen to just the story mode tracks because Turquiose October has so many absolute bangers and you didn't get anywhere near a taste of it from these 3 videos.
you should listen to the splatoon 3 hero mode songs, would be cool to see your reaction to them, i recommend the music that plays for each of the areas hubs
HEY!!! I really enjoy your content! Im here because I have a suggestion that i think would be right up your alley, Risk of Rain 2! It has a very atmospheric OST, and while it's high energy in a lot of places given the nature of the game, it still feels very ethereal and otherworldly. If you choose to react to those, I and quite a few others would be very happy. Thank you!
