Do you ever realised that the surroundings of Inkopolis seems to be ruins and desert? You can see it from the Last Boss UFO. The game is much darker than you may think. I even consider that the Turf War and Ranked modes and so on are nothing more than training methods to deal with...what ever is outside of Inkipolis.

"I'm sure the screams are people missing the train and are frustrated..." Now for the dark shit, "I'm sure those are screams of tortured souls who lost everything to sate the hunger of the monsters" or something...

Maybe Splatoon has an even darker story than we thought. Maybe somehow you're hearing what the Earth sounded like as it flooded, screaming noises, alarms etc.

You know I think that the goggles on the octolings are mind controlling devices and those screams are the screams of the octolings crying for mercy crying for help as the devices are being forcefully put on them... Yup

The theory I heard was that it's the octolings are escaping and getting on trains to escape because they know if the boss losses they will lose all power and become incapable of leaving!That is the theory I heard!

So, we have three main options to what these sounds are. #1. Is that monsters are roaming in the areas outside Inkopolis, and the 'fun' turf wars are just practice for war. #2. Is it's the sound of the Octarians in pain and dying, because YOU, The Player, are taking their one and only power source. It's quite tragic, when you put it in a different perspective. #3. It's just a octarian train station below. I am personally with #2, because the noises start up again after you beat the final boss, as you're about their very last Power Source, and they will die without it. Reply to me what your thoughts are!

I have a theory. SPOILER ALERT!!! This involves lore from Splatoon 1 and Splatoon 2. In Splatoon 2, one of the Newscasters is an Octoling. When I first saw her, I was confused at first, because the Single Player campaign in Splatoon (1) was all about how Octarians were evil, and Octolings we also evil. Why would Inkopolis welcome her with open arms, especially after the Great War? In Splatoon 2’s Sunken Scrolls, it shows the “Concert” when DJ Octavio was fighting with Agent 3, in Splatoon 1. You can see Marina in the background, and you can see Agent Three. Obviously, Marina was sided with Octavio for some time, but why did she stop? Take a look at Splatoon 2’s Octolings. They have glasses on that look eerily similar with Callie’s Shades that brainwashed her. See what I’m getting at? In One of the Sunken Scrolls in Splatoon 2, Marina can be seen in the center of the crowd, holding a pair of glasses in her hand. When Callie was performing, she was brainwashed by the Shades. Maybe that’s what happened to Marina, but she was able to take the glasses off. Maybe all Octolings are not evil, but hypnotized. What I think the noises are is that they are Octolings being Brainwashed.

Alternate theory: The noises are from the giant robotic octoling monsters shutting down and the kid like screams come from a number of octolings running for their live to escape the collapsing mechanisms.One thing I hope for though, in the sequel it's round two.

I haven't played the games but I hear that the zapfishes are essential for maintaining power, could it be that everything is electronic and obtaining the last fish with underground rail cars going off electrical tracks(you here bells and distance train in a sub way) others are dying....................hmm Can someone help me recall, when did Splatoon come out?

It sounds like Octarians and Octolings getting crushed and killed by platforms.

I heard the train noises when I played before but not the screaming.. very unsettling.. good find! I wonder if it will ever be explained or forever a mystery?

I do have a theory to the sounds, but its a bit far fetch to say the least. In short I'll try to explain my idea. Firstly, why are the female octolings the only one that have a kid form/human like form? The other enemies in game don't have a kid/human appearance. Also in the scrolls we do see that the normal octarians enemies can be female (I don't re-call which scroll, but it shows one with lipstick so lets "assume" its female). The theory I am suggesting is that maybe its possible the octarians took some of inklings, capture or whatever as experiments and turned them into ocoto human hybrids, explaining why the ocotolings can take on a human appearance. It could explain the weird sounds, the sounds of inklings in pain. Again, its far fetch and its probably not the reason, but I thought it could be a fun idea to play on the sounds and why the other octarians might be different from one another.

Maybe it could be that everytime your collecting the Zapfishes, The Octarians are screaming in agony because they need power for living underground but there slowly dying when you save the Zapfishes.

It might be a beast that is trying to get revenge on The Inklings... But... Theres gas coming out of the crater your Inkling is in the middle in... That must mean that SOMETHING, or someONE is breathing at you... IT COULD Be the great Zapfish's dad! Trying to get revenge on the inklings as using the great Zapfish as there source of Power... Poor Octolings...

when I looked this up to find out what it ment, I heard that some of the octoling are either getting smashed by something big, turcherd, getting blended into that weird blender thing on Spatoon 2. They also said that it might be a train, but, you don't hear people screaming in pain by a train. This is also strange, the dev said that he had know idea where this sound even came from?

I showed this to my sister who is a vet tech and works with farm animals all day, she said it sounds like a cow slaughter house with the "mooing" and slamming doors and bell noises

2 ideas. 1: its things falling apart, because I don't see holding up a secret underground area being easy, or 2: these are echoes of the sounds sounds of the earth being flodded (people screaming, trains attempting to escape, what sounds like it might be alarms going off...)

i say that the screaming noises are the octolings getting extinct and the weird climbing noises are their structures collapsing #stopoctolingabuse

Its not really an easter egg for game devs to put in creepy sound effects to make the boss fight feel a little more intimidating. its just ambiance.

I think that they're alive. When you finish the singleplayer, in the credits, we see squids and octarians talking to each others. May we have used the Octo Valley to be a place for them to stay because they cant be in the city? And have we pardon them and came friends again? Maybe. And maybe we share power now.

based on TVTropes, the sounds are several pieces of the octoling homes falling apart due to them being poorly mantained. As the octolings lack the power sources of the inklings (that they lost in the original turf war that created the anymosity between both races in the first place), so the octarians have to steal the zapfish out of desperation to save their home than evil purposes. then octavio, of course, with his petty revenge comes and ruin everything just to get back at the inklings.

This isn't new nintendo is known for doing stuff like this for example lavender town the three figures in Mario galaxy 2 and more. So no surprise to me 😒

so in splatoon 2 octo expansion it's pretty much a giant subway taking you to the stages and stuff, and there's a blender that blended up 10,007 octolings, which means that the screams must have been octolings being blended.

Now, heres my theory of these sounds. One theory (theres gonna be lots) The sounds are coming from the octolings... (trying to escape via trains which is why you hear clashing and banging..) Theory Two Maybe its the octolings attacking the places and the sound's aren't coming from them. Their coming from the screams of people being killed. Theory three The trains are banging into things (I.E being tossed out of the trails.) And the screams aren't screams, Now. you're very far away from the place down below. So, it actually could not be a scream. But in fact, Its the trains. Theory four. The trains are being attacked by the octolings.. BUT karma fucks them in the back and they get killed by (maybe) their own attack, (or) The trains bang into the octolings. (and kill them slowly.. which is why you can hear them scream maybe) Theory Five The place (where theres purple water) Is the sounds (if you listen carefully, headphones are a good thing to use) Is something drowning... Now, it would not be drowning, Since all water has to go somewhere? Right... So, its going down. The "circle" can't hold water, It has holes in it... Which means the water will go down... Since you're heavier than water, You'd go down faster.. Which means. they could actually survive, but then fall down. (and die) Theory Six The army (of inkopolis) is trying to fight back but they get killed, But some of them do kill (or badly injure) the octolings, Which Is why they scream! (or it a guy wanting their war face and then they scream so loud that you can hear it from up there.) Theory Seven Its explosions.. As i said on theory three the "Now. you're very far away from the place down below. So, it actually could not be a scream. But in fact, its the trains" Now, many explosions can make sounds... even in real life. But, wait a minute! What if the octolings were inside that explosion! (I.E a grenade) Then thats why they scream! Their on fire and running around trying to get it off. Theory eight Its demons... Now, it actually sounds like demons.. But, it could be anything. It could be your old doll (don't get scared. its only a joke) or it could be jason's axe, thats screaming to kill something. But seriously, The game has some creepy easter eggs. (Like you can hear laughing in one of the places statue's in the game.) Theory Nine Its the octolings (robots) being shutdown... Cause you're taking their zapfish! The zapfish Aren't only good for their taste (Don't take it seriously) but they can power stuff! And when you take zapfish, The robot octolings Shut down, Then the people (octolings) are running away screaming and all the banging and clashing are the robots body hitting he ground. Last therory you're having a big bad giant (sleepless) nightmare... Who knows, you could be dead and you're dreaming about this stuff.

First off, idk what's up with the sounds in the forth boss battle cuz it sounds like an eriee, (I think I spelt that wrong) whistle or cry. Second, those sounds many people think it's the falling of the octlings, but what if those sounds don't involve the zapfish at all? What if it's the sound the last remaining humans on earth, fighting for their lives or WHAT IF, this ones a long shot, deep below the surface, those sounds are the echoes of our squid ancestors killing the octlings, way back during the great turf war, their screams reminding us of the damage we caused as well as making it a warning to us squids that the power we would soon take from them will cause us inklings to be control by massive amounts of power, resulting in overpowering the world. Callie and Marie becomes the rulers and turns their backs on us inklings and making us their slaves, after whipping out the octlings, there is no one else they can control but us. The two squids who sing and dance for us all, will soon be the devilish rulers, working the inklings to death. While DJ Octavio plans to take his revenge, resulting in what coule be Splatoon 2, who knows? But it just a theory, a GAME THEORY!!

I think its the sound of new octarian weapons being made, I mean the bosses Attack pattern is very weird, maybe its the sound of an octarian being forced into the machine, after all, there are tentacles inside the bosses that you shoot to harm the boss.

Here’s what I think. So at some time there was a bell ringing right? So maybe the bell is a sign of evacuation for the Octolings to leave. Maybe the inklings got back their zapfish back and the octolings power storage went out and starting to evacuate the place because mabye buildings are falling. The sound are very creepy and disturbing for me.

I think it's the sound of people missing a train then it derails, I think I can hear someone calling out "mom?" And it is from when the earth flooded, cuz I can hear rushing water on the first boss room, then the second one is way farther into the flood, the rest making it the noises farther into the flood, also on the fourth room, it is commander tartar just being activated, and the rooms echo with the noises forever, tormenting the octolings, then the last boss is the octo expansion's trains, and the octolings screeching as if they missed the train,

I believe it’s ghost octolings crying in certain places of where they died, take the purple liquid level as an example, I forgot the name but you can hear some form of creature crying underwater as if it’s drowning.

Here’s a dark theory... I think down there it’s where the deep sea metro is at, its probably the sounds of other Octoling test subjects and once agent 3 defeated dj octavio they heard the sounds in an instant and decided to check it out and that’s where agent 8 comes in she meets capn’ cuttlefish and... also in the final boss in splatoon has Callie and Marie singing the calamari inkantation agent 8 however is humming the calamari inkantation the sound from the song is coming below aswell and you can just hear the Other Octoling test subjects failing the job and marina was in dj Octavio’s flying machine thing so maybe marina also felt the same pain and since her voice is beutiful and loud you can hear her suffering and wanting to get out of there... so it’s kinda of a mix of splatoon 1 and the octo expansion and so there’s another theory of witch, was marina also a test subject for the deep sea metro? Bc she rlly knows how to handle these kinda dark octo stuff...🐙

They actually asked developers about the noise and I believe the director stated that he wasn't aware they were in there, and that someone might have added them last minute

In the final boss stage maybe all those huge tentacles are connected to one MASSIVE robot octopus and the noises are octarians working on it as a plan to wipe out inklings

Though I don't have this game, I believe that siren noise is a warning for all of the octolings and the other noises are falling buildings and screams

what it sounds like to me is a Death by train cause the screaming and someone must have fallen down there and died by the train hitting them and also running them over and killing them. thus is so dark and I have something for splatoon 2 too

I heard these creepy sounds in Splatoon 2 when i was at the Octo Samurai's arena.

These sounds from what i hear are: a rail road crossing going off creaking screaming and something i can't make it out. (Look at a certain scroll it has a human skeleton buried with a gamepad a disc and a wii controller connected to another controller) so could it be spirits and echoes that lasted for a huge amount of time being heard?

I think its the sound of the octlings being tortured for letting them gaurd the zapfish but the end up dieing and then being sent back to teir base which is the boss fight takes place

It's the structure of the octarians' homes falling apart inside the dome. The octarians are screaming while the inside is collapsing

The 3rd boss stage sounds like deamonic clanging and banging metal sounds

The scrolls say the kettles are forms of underground transport, but they need electricity. Once you take the zap fish, the kettles start to fail. People in the kettles fall to their deaths once the power goes out. (The banging/groaning/screaming) the bells may be signs of warning

It sounds like a monster and chains and screams , i have a theorie what if the monsters and singleplayer mode is just a setup for agent three and they have the monsters caged in the background

In the 4th one, (you may need headphones) you can hear a higher-pitched noise that sounds like a part of the creepy noises in the others.

I have heard a lot of comments which were mostly about the trains falling and crushing couplings because the inkling took the last zapfish. From my point of view, that can't be true because it happens at all of the bosses. (which is before we get the last zapfish) My theory is that those sounds are either the water rising (secret scrolls) during the war or the sounds are how the humans got extinct in the game. I don't know. Maybe it was just a creepy easter egg that doesn't even mean anything. Who knows? :/

From the sounds of things I would say something along the lines of trains drills and maybe screams but not so much torture as people have agreed on but maybe octolings yelling at each other because we know that they have their own..."language"

I think it's supposed to be the sound of all the people who were attacked by the great octoweapons. And now the sound of those who suffered haunt the boss area. Maybe there asking you to avenge them?

I think it's because DJ Octavio is watching you, and getting his tunes ready. It also depends on your surrounding though, if there are trains around you, there will be train noises.

I dont understand why some people think that inklings are dying or some humans , this is about inklings and octolings , the whole think is about war from before and how octolings took zapfish , but did you even realise how do squids looks, the town is great , everything is just normal , and everyone is calm as for octolings , they have some strange places and strange look , as well there place is falling apart when inklings took there zapfish , and that strange sounds are more like train who start falling and slide and then you can hear screams , maybe they are actually octolings , i mean they are more look like humanoids or what else, but damn this game freaked me out now . As well no one noticed that zapfish is back , expect marie callie and the player, 3 agents . idk anymore , this game is creepy and i wish there was a really story about this stange sounds.

Option #1: All of the vehicles and machinery are stopping and everyone is mad. Option #2: There is a huge rabid grizzly bear down there, terrorizing everyone. Option #3: [Insert really dark theory involving torturing inklings and/or octolings.]

The noises are prob from the octolings trying to escape from the battle scene or they're empire falling down because they don't have the electricity inklings do without the zap fish
