I agree. Alien 3 for the Genesis is another of of these. It basically a really good game ruined by extremely tight time limits.

For what it's worth, the original Japanese version has a more generous time limit.

My theory is that the Terror Mask must kill the original host first by transferring part of its energy onto a new dead host. It happened with the Hell Chaos at the end of the first game, it happened again in the third game. Never trust the Terror Mask.

There are plenty of reasons to emulate something. Not everyone does it just to be a scumbag. A lot of games like these don’t get produced anymore or don’t get re-released so it’s already impossible to support the developers/ companies involved. Most stores don’t carry the game or few options exist online for purchase. Those you can buy will be from third party suppliers that can charge whatever they want and there is no guarantee that it’ll even work. Piracy is preservation in a lot of these cases.

It's 180 or more for Splatter house 2. Splatter house 3 is around 80 or more

Remake is needed

Well 1&2 aren't true beat'um ups and you'll need to beat the the reboot on the 360 to complete the series. But I think you'll find these games are well worth your time.

Google for the full story, but the game is set in Rick's own mansion. The monsters are trying to abduct David (Rick and Jennifer's son) because he's the key to unlocking some kind of doomsday event/resurrection of something evil. Basically, you're fighting to save Rick's family. *Spoilers* It turns out that the Terror Mask has planned this all along and is the real villain of the game.

Extra Lives, and lots of them.

On the Japanese version you simply press up and jump in the mutant form while grabbing an enemy to do the upper off-screen slam. To do the tentacle attack as you call it simply press attack + jump. The US version is different. Can't remember how to do it but it's complicated compared to the Japanese version. I think it's up down up then attack for the former and forward back forward then attack for the latter. Weird, I know. I recommend getting the Japanese version.

And my acquaintance with the series just began with the third part, and only with the advent of the Internet I was able to play the first and second parts.

It's kind of whack. In theory, Jennifer dies at the 2 minute mark and becomes a zombie at the 0 minute mark. But the game can only trigger the appropriate cutscenes when going through doors, so apparently entering the level boss with more than 2 minutes then beating him with more than 0 minutes still counts as saving her

I agree - I think this was a misstep for the franchise. It's not like it's a particularly good beat em up 😐

@@AL82RetrogamingLongplays I think if they could have made the combat a little deeper and more involved, it would have been fine. But as it was, it demanded a little too much of the player without giving any payoff to keep them involved.

This was an ambitious sequel and clearly a lot of effort and care went into it. I think the change to a FF/SoR style beat em up + the time limits and multiple routes was a little too ambitious. I would rather they had just focused on the gameplay aspects. The main problem is that the enemies take too many hits to kill which makes the gameplay a tedious grind. If it has been more or less a reskinned SoR 2 it would have been much better.
