Amidst the sea of racing titles lost to time, there is one that I simply can't get enough of. Split/Second (or Split/Second: Velocity in Europe) brought an incredibly explosive twist to the world of arcade racing, and there's a lot to love about a game that few really talk about.
If you were one of the few to play it, you already know why this game deserves more attention. If not, sit back, relax, and let me regale to you why using a collapsing building to flatten the car in front of you is adrenaline-fueled fun.

I'll NEVER forgive Disney for shutting down the people who made that amazing game meant for racing game fans who are also action movie fanatics.

Why? Disney Interactive had lost $800 MILLION by that point. It's not like they had much choice in the matter by that point. Plus with the pivot to mobile instead of console/PC all their studios were on the chopping block.

I still can't believe more people didn't play this game. It was a blast to play and I actually got all 1000 gamerscore on it. I played it so much. Total fail by the gaming community. I could only imagine how amazing a sequel would've been. It could've been next level kind of stuff.

Phenomenal video! Its criminal how poorly this game did sales wise, its such a gem. Sadly, in recent time most of the racing game market is flooded with sim racers, with arcade racers forced to the backseat. I hope that someday there will be a resurgence for arcade racers.

Nostalgia got the best of me and i was crying through this video... So many great memories of lan parties. Persons chanting "CALL THE BOAT!!!!!!!" Favorite comment ever was "Wait.... is that a plane? That's a f*cking PLANE!!!!!!!" before the majority of the lobby got wiped.

I'm back again to watch this video, and i have to admit, I'm sad no one really touches on the visual representation of progression in this game through decals. Each Sticker on the vehicle marks an accomplishment, both on and offline. My favorite is giant slayer, winning a race as the lowest rated racer in a lobby. Gives me goosebumps every time.

First played this as a demo and fell in love with it. I bought it for PS3 and still have it! Split/Second, Ridge Racer R4, and Wipeout XL are top three all time racers for me.

Oh, I've played this game. I've played it more times than I've hugged my own mother. It had been in the back of my mind since I saw the commercial for it back in 2010, and when I finally got it 6 years later (finally got that 360 set up), you COULD NOT peel me away from it. I even got to beat it twice thanks to my Xbox wiping all my save files for no reason (still won't forgive it for however it did that)! I've played a lot of racing games in my lifetime, but none were as spectacular, as explosive, as thrilling to the max as Split/Second.

I'm with you! This is still my all-time fav racing game ever! Everyone I show it to nowadays is like "WHAT is that game!??? 👀" I sadly played it on pc back when it first came out - and yes even with using keyboard controls I still had so much fun with this game! Such a shame the rights haven't been picked up for a sequal. It blows my mind nobody's even tried to attempt imitating this!

wow...somebody else knows of the magnitude of this game...ive been an arcade racer head forever, this game stands with ridge racer type 4, outrun 2006, sega rally imo.

Great video my friend. The same company made another racing game a few years before this, it was called Pure and it was just as fun as this game. Wish more people were into these games because they were phenomenal! Both Pure and Split Second were getting sequels when the studio shut down, which is a bummer I still haven’t gotten over to this day. If I ever get the money, you can bet I’ll be buying the rights and creating the sequels myself lmao

I remember playing the demo for this game as it came in an Xbox Magazine issue i bought. Hands down my favorite demo ever played. Now i was able to get it and it was quite an experience. Definitely this game deserved way better

Loved the concept, loved the music, loved the graphics… But the difficulty killed this game for me. Still wish someone makes an spiritual successor of Split/Second someday.

Yeah, the AI for this game after episode 3 or so, just kills the fun factor after awhile. I mean don't get me wrong the entire game is a blast all the way through, but the AI learning from how you play and how much you win, it gets way to aggressive and ruins it to some degree. Also, sorry for being a year late on this one lol
