As much hate as this game gets, the campaign was criminally underrated. This was the last CoD I remember where I actually enjoyed the campaign. From the performances to the missions, it was phenomenal.
Tbh one thing i learn from this game is that when Jonathan irons mention about democracy he's right about it because people don't want freedom they want money, power protection from foreign invaders just like that second is if you remember cutscenes where jonathan irons mention about why he attack united states.
@@bernardo4628 makes sense, because he is not from the us born, he’s rich, has corporations, and has views that must be brought out… that is not capable from a years on politician
This is like that Norm Macdonald joke about Germany: "I don't know if you guys are history buffs, but in the early part of the last century Germany decided to go to war. And who did they go to war with... the World (It had never been tried before). And you'd figure that would take about 5 seconds for the World to win, but no, it was actually close."
Germany was close to taking Europe, but not even close to taking the world. Had they somehow managed to take Britain they still would have needed to conquer the soviets and the entire continental united states. It was always a pipe dream and was proven to be when the allies breezed through Normandy and marched easily into berlin.
@104327505932336363507 Shame on such an ending. Let's hope they will make second game, and there will be Spacey as well. Very slim chance, but I still have my hopes, because he is great actor, and his character was outstanding.
His atlas force was pretty corrupt and his ultimate weapon was him stepping off a plank, but that being said I still agree with him on a lot of what he says.
@@Deathmare235 mercenaries with morals? Yea right it's like saying a pirate had a code to not steal stuff, like the point of being a mercenary in the first place is to earn money whilst giving those who are paying you in return your service, the only exception to mercenaries having morals is Federico montefeltro, but even he charge thrice the amount
@Vlad von Carstein Mercenaries are mercenaries, they’re literally doing their own thing they are not dictated by any state whatsoever, unless of course they are employed by said state to their bidding, like what sort of mercenary that would literally give himself or his men without any sort of exchange?, that aint a mercenary anymore that’s more of a volunteer than a mercenary
@@zenohawk1788 some pirates did have codes, privateers and mercenaries do it for the money they can't have morals unless they wanna get shot some how ever do have policy's.
I love the ideas that AW played with as a campaign. What happens when a private military company gets way, WAY too powerful? How does the world react to it? It’s such an interesting concept that I’m sad we’ll probably never see again in a mainstream title such as COD. I wanna see more of the world that AW is set in and how a “post-ATLAS” world would look.
It was definitely a nice change of pace from Russians/Arabs/communists. The KVA was an interesting concept too, since they were against advanced technology which was so prevalent at that point. Sucks we aren't getting a sequel while MW and BO games are a dime a dozen.
Hello from Russia 2023,where private military company "Wagner" tried to rebel against politicians and to take direct command on the nation. To "solve problems by march of justice". The game wasn't really far from reality.
Very late, but I agree that there should be a sequel to this. I believe that there are individuals in the AW universe that still share the same ideals as Irons.
Irons here shows the world their problems by holding a weapon over their head that would force them to get their act together. Don't see him as a villain, more like a prent who feels sparing the rod will continue to spoil the child that is the members of the UN.
I'm late to the show but could you imagine Spacey in Batman Versus Superman: Dawn of Justice, and with a fleshed out backstory? Hell, even a fucking solo film that precedes BvS? That would have been sick.
That even more skewed moment when your villain character has motivations that the players agree with, politicians are the source of a majority of the world’s problems
@@viswajitbala7924 its not voice acting dude, they use motion capture which means Kevin is in a million dollar suit with cameras all around him so they record his every move, I’m surprised more people aren’t aware of the sheer effort it takes to make games like this
@@Chuked I feel that he's put in more effort into actually talking and expressing the dialogues and voice lines. He's done really well in that part, but at the same time you're right.
@@viswajitbala7924 yes because he is a really, really good actor and it shows.. he though he is surrounded by cameras and in a super clunky suit, he still pulls out one of the best gaming performances ever
Hears rumours of irons making a super crazy wepon The whole world: panic Iorns: weren not making this wepon The whole world: kalm Iorns: because we already have The whole world: panic
Speech been hitting hard since the game released, “a relic from when countries were unique in their ability to solve problems” now it is just bickering while actual war happens.
Also a low key reference that all the leaders of countries around the world are owned by the same globalist enterprise. No unique solutions because everyone is playing their role according to the script.
So you're telling me Irons was all alone there, no security whatsoever, declared war against the UN right in front of them, and admitted to having a weapon that could kill millions.... and they just let him go without having anyone apprehend him then and there
So, he announces his plans upfront to the entire world? wow very strategy much tact very calculations wow Great performance by Kevin Spacey, poorly-written villain.
Wise leaders minimize casualties/damages every chance they get. Even if he manages to conquer everyone, he would still face resistance, which would only increase once he gives his targets time to prepare.
unfortunately, No. If you ask me, I would've joined his forces too, and wiped out all those useless birocrauts, and brainless patriots, whos visions of world, is too narrow, and old fashioned. Irons was the man, that thought of future, not present. Great character, and all respect to Kevin Spacey, for his play.
That is the problem You play a game that is made by big multinational corporation which funds are directly from these Investors So we have to defeat big bad guy to have status quo
The characterisation of this dude was really frustrating. His perspective in laying out his reasoning is interesting setup for an antagonist.....but then one mission later he's set up death camps and is exterminating civilians for absolutely no fucking reason whatsoever.
@@lucca3113 If he's supposed to represent Hitler, then absolutely nothing about his character suggests that beyond starting a world war. Nothing about his backstory, his societal position, his motivations, etc Irons was pissed off with pointless warfare and wanted to consolidate power in himself. Hitler was raised with Catholic anti-semitism, and used various societal groups as scapegoats for the ills of the country. He built upon the previous war, the Versailles treaty, the depression and hyperinflation - none of which have any parallel in Irons. Irons was directly concerned with institutions and nations, and expressed nor encouraged any hatred for any particular civilian group, so when he's suddenly committing genocide out of nowhere within days it's completely insane and isn't borne out in any way by his character or the rhetoric.
@@silvershocknicktail6638 adolf hitler wanted a world war, "total war", to end all wars and consolidate the aryan race. that is what every politician's policy in war of such a scale is. of course, said politicians are also misguided in their thought: you cannot fight fire with fire, or the whole world goes up aflame. once he realized people are resisting, (because, frankly, no one wants to he under a power-freak CEO) irons also realized the most efficient option was to just liquidate the opposition. parallels can be drawn not only with hitler, but napoleon, mussolini, and even stalin. he is every bit like hitler. different times, same man.
Irons had the right idea. I can't wait for his version to show up. Started working for Raytheon two years ago, SpaceX is the most likely to attain this power.
He does for a point similar Senator Armstrong, his points is that our wars would leave the world further into chaos and even today we are still bitterly divided that we have our issues here
If you want polliticians to solve any problem, just remember, that they're just those who care only about money and power. If they didn't get enough votes, they'd be criminals.
What was it that the great Niccolo Machiavelli wrote... "The Ends Justify The Means" In my opinion, if we were allowed to choose which side to pick, I wouldn't be able to hit that 'Bad Guys' button quick enough. Irons had a grand plan with actual good intentions, he just couldn't stand up to a player character... I honestly think this world, the COD world that is, would've been better off in the long run if Atlas had won. Sure there would be hundreds upon thousands of lives lost within a matter of days, but in a matter of years there would hundreds upon thousands more saved, I guarantee ya that.
anfernee jones Diabolical now is it... Do you honestly think its a good thing to have these arbitrary boundaries between races and culture? Because I don't. ...And all I'm saying is, name one super-futuristic video game/movie/or otherwise, like space-age humanity kind of futuristic where Earth is still divided into countries. In Halo all of Earth is united to fight the covenant, everyone gets to keep their cultural differences and there's no need to fight over who's better because there are aliens to fight. In Mass Effect a single council of 3 people decides how all of the Earth's armed forces are mobilized, they may have their differences, but giving them all that power means that once they do agree there's no delay on the order, they get shit done. In the Mechwarrior Universe no-one bats an eye when an entire world shifts allegiance from Davion to Steiner or vice-versa, because having a divided world means that one of the 2 factions is going to have to send an invasionary force to kill a helluva lotta people and probably ravage the landscape in doing so. It can only hurt a world to be divided. I'll admit what Irons is trying to do is a bit harsh, but how else could he achieve world unity? As a great man once said "You must first bathe the world in blood, before there can be peace."
The Dawg He was angered that his son died fighting in Korea, and wanted revenge on the united states.... The way he was going out of seeking unification was bbasically a holocaust.... Besides the UN is basically a world government, with almost every country in it....
anfernee jones Honestly I don't think his son's death meant much to him at all, like I said, to Irons its all just a means to an end. Having his son die was the kickstarter for his personal crusade against the rest of the world, but he didn't even seem to like his son, just like his son didn't like him. The only reason he attacked the US first was because they were the biggest threat to him, being the world's most heavily armed nation. Which isn't even to mention the player-character who he was upset with, now working with the US, against him... ...And also like I said about means and ends, if Irons succeeds then hundreds of thousands die now in his righteous war for dominance. Whereas if Irons fails, not only do several thousand people still die to his war, they continue dying in their own nation's wars against other nations. Sure there'll never be world peace, I believe that much is true, but at least a singular military would keep global conflict to a minimum. As it stands the UN is just a facade, what they decide never seems to matter when someone important enough disagrees with them. The only real power for good on the Earth right now, like I said earlier, is the United States Armed Forces. They have the guns and the manpower to physically remove any threat to the world within days of bombing runs... It's too bad their leaders are a bunch of cowards & morons, otherwise we might actually have a decent setup for world peace...
...by starting another war. that's the problem with politicians, none of them want war, but they always think you need war to achieve that. this guy is literally a politician, but worse. he's a CEO. the root of all evil
"did you know you have rights? The constitution says you do, and so do I, I believe that untill prooven guilty every men woman and child of this country is innocent, and that's why i fight for you Albuquerque"
Funny thing is, minus the melodrama of obvious-villain-being-villainous, he's probably right. Politicians are in it for profit. Why not let people who are open about it try their hand? It's a pretty twisted idea, but if politicians didn't exist and someone described how politics worked, do you think you'd pick that? I've often wondered what it would be like if a private defense contractor got nukes (probably on subs for this thought experiment) Any nation could pay that contractor for nuclear insurance. A yearly subscription to MAD. What nation wouldn't pay for their own version of Trident (UK MAD program)? MAD has prevented large scale war for almost 80 years. What if the whole world had it? World peace for a few trillion dollars a year. (thank you for coming to my villain Ted talk)
As the son of a private defense contractor, you and I both know what would happen if they acquired nukes, and it wouldn’t be good. That being said, I want to be a politician not focused on profit but policy. I don’t care if I have to overturn every stone in America’s roads to do it, I will help this country somehow. Not in a way of making the country great, or of illiberal neoliberalism, but something else.
Irons seems smarter to instantlly go up there and be like "thank you for inviting me into your club now I'm going to take it over". He would totally show his intentions later.
One detail I like is when Irons says he's changing from profits to policy (1:13) you can see the flag for South Korea behind him. South Korea, where his son died. Fighting the UN's wars.
