Honestly. I think most people who understand history and the way the world has historically worked develops a sense of cynicism- but unlike the rest of us, His character had the power to actually do something about it without having to be as apologetic as the average warmongering politician. If he hadn’t let the attacks happen, he would’ve been a good guy
I think the thing is people are waking up to the shithole the world is now . All of this start making sense because those are facts . The only problem is , no one doing anything.
@@Erin-ce5gs Claire and Frank would have had a war and it would’ve ended with them both killing each other. It would’ve signified the rise and fall of the underwood’s as the series intended
@@rarescevei8268 Well genetic weapon. It needs specific people’s DNA to exclude them from the frets, and kills everyone else. You can’t exactly exclude an entire race through it unless you programmed every specific exclusion.
@zeehero7280 Power is always temporary. it just matters how long you maintain it either by fear or affection. Nobody is at the elm of anything forever.
@@nathanmason3501 to be fair it was a accusation and all of those were dropped now that said until further evidence I can neither be on Kevin Spacey society or not be on his side but I like him as a actor cuz I like r Kelly as a singer but I literally hate and despise him as a human being
Irons is an amazing villain for several reasons, but mainly because he appeals to what people think is right and wrong. The reason his betrayal works so well is because the player so far has only seen the positives of a person who doesn't need any kind of governmental approval and is doing what is "right" by their standards. Then the player is given a cold hard look at the reality of a person who doesn't care about rules and regulations and wields absolute power, Irons does what he believes is right even if by everyone else's standards it's monstrous. Advanced Warfare teaches the player a lesson about giving 1 person complete control over everything and expecting them to be a great person as well.
It was extremely meh for me. It wasn’t bad, just… not really memorable or compelling. All the Modern Warfares, Black Ops 1/2/Cold War, and Infinite Warfare (the campaign for it, at least) all had leagues better campaigns in my opinion. I really only remember this campaign for Kevin Spacey, press F to pay respects, and that one awesome house invasion level. Oh, and people incessantly saying MITCHELL! But, if you really like it, I can’t stop you. It’s certainly better than Vanguard.
14:46 “they wielded the biggest stick” After shepherd from MW2 saying “Sure it matters the biggest stick, but it matters a hell of a lot more of who’s swinging it” It makes a lot more sense of what shepherd was referring to
the graphics in these cutscenes were absolutely unreal. The motion and tiny movements in the face are so fluid and realistic it's lifelike. It's crazy how good this game was yet it was still shat on by the cod fanbase.
9:54 I love the cinematography in this scene. The fear and concern in the man’s voice. Irons’s “no” which makes the characters freeze, but Irons eases the concern into reassurance when he says they will “tell everyone”. Then when the audience feels he’s going to stop the attacks, he turns around and shoots him. Along with the camera angle where your character is standing, Irons walks around the man and pats his shoulder, where you can’t see his face. Not seeing his appearance anymore creates this feeling that the meeting is over and he is going to sort out the situation. So when he does turn around and shoot him, his face reveals the true layer under his character. And Gideon’s shocked “fuck me!” reaction coincides with the audience’s shocked reaction. It makes the kill and his character reveal more intense. The campaign really does feel like a cinematic thriller (and action) movie.
@@TheBlobik Yea the attacks had happened, but it’s only revealed in this scene that Irons knew the attacks were going to take place but chose not to do anything.
It is still kinda funny how the hologram drops real blood (in the moment the holo dissapears the blood does too but you know what i meant lol) but quite a good point my guy
i never played that game but i actively watched the videos about its campaign story. to be frank that is maybe one of the best story i ever saw in a game. endearing characters, cool villain with good intentions but with bad executions, effective plot, interesting political and militarized themes... it's just a big shame this is actually in a COD game. if only this story would be in a separated game. or in a good movie.
Damn Irons was such a high quality villain, I'd look the other way when that woman showed the video of him killing Hades and remain within Atlas. That's how charismatic he was.
Irons is such a duality of writing. He can sometimes boldly spit out facts about this world....and then become the most eye-rolling corporate bad guy with fascist undertones in the next scene, hitting every possible cliche along the way. That last scene, "I won't kill you, I'm not a monster". Oh goody, my eyes could not have rolled further into my head.
I think the scene you refer to ("I'm not a monster") is actually great, it shows how someone like Irons is convicted in his cause, and how deeply it shows he believes himself to be acting with good intentions, that he is doing the "right" thing by sparing Mitchell. Actually is a pretty well developed character, and the story as a whole, of course, has an allegorical exploration of the failings of partisanship and American bureaucracy to effectively govern itself, and all of this is contrasted with the, as you aptly put it, dark fascist undertones. So while Irons makes seemingly good arguments, his presumption that man "doesn’t want freedom" wants to "have rules" and a leader that "can keep chaos at bay," is a straw man argument. Any of his arguments really are straw man arguments. -- even if he is persuasive, he is logically flawed and amoral. Because his logic is flawed, he doesn’t recognize that morality is a part of being human. When Iron states "because of all the worldviews, nothing gets done."(pp) While also saying that he is right; he is asserting himself as a moral authority. He gives no consideration to being wrong, but also believes ending thousands of lives via Manticore wasn't morally correct, but rather logically sound. Yet proudly asserts that he's not a monster by "sparing" one life. I think the narrative is overall sound for conveying the depth of a character, albeit clunky in the overly opinionated parts, I agree with you, I think overall it still does a pretty good job of conveying the story while engaging the audience in a deeper narrative, and ultimately I think that's what media is really for. To watch something you can enjoy the action of, while similarly considering the more thematic elements and how they may apply to our lives. Btw, I have never actually played this game but I love a compelling story! And this was a vidya game from a decade ago!
@@ATP2555ify this whole character is a parody, it embodies the US foreign policy to perfection, both the good and the bad, this god complex that allows them, and the character by extension, to see themselves as the saviors of mankind yet they're the sole reason behind its suffering. When I said I'd gladly fight for him I meant I'd gladly fight for the idea he put forward of dismantling this modern-day imperialist mindset that brought nothing to the world but assassinations, toppling of governments, funding of terrorists, wars, more wars and way more wars.
@@ColKlenk-id1yu facts. The government didn't realize how devastating the attack would be, they just wanted an excuse to rally the citizens to enter the war
Controversies aside, this actor is the reason I still think about and remember this game all these years later and to this day it’s still my favorite campaign.
If this game had been made by anybody else or named something other than call of duty critics and gamers would hail it as one of the all time greats. So much effort put into these games and nobody really gives them credit because it's a throw away game with a one year life cycle.
It's amazing this game came out in 2014, it was a great game. Call of duty is stuck in the past and nothing like this game came after. Nomore wow games
The problem that big franchises like COD face is that they can never seem to make everyone happy. People didn't like the future games so now they're going back to WWII.
Futurists concentrate in sci-fi, these are the accurate, not precise, predictions of our best and brightest. Much of it is muddled by atheism and fanatic social demagoguery, but this is the future.
Probably because the right things always come with sacrifice, even if that means lives are involved. But the heroes obviously do not tolerate that, so they always focus on lives rather than the right causes
Because the devil always plays it logically and realistically. It is charismatic and compelling. However, these are half truths and half lies. It is a prevalent narrative all throughout myths and stories of the past.
I don't know why but for some reason I remember the "press f to pay respects" meme blowing up when I was a kid, but it started here, and I was not a kid when it started
I think no one here would argue with the fact that Jonathan Irons is the exact answer to the question of who would Frank Underwood have been if he continued his career in the private sector. Thanks to Activision for giving us a second chance to see Spacey reprise such a character.
11:42 my god this just keep getting closer and closer to the actual world's politics. This game sucks but the campaign was freaking incredible in concept, however the plot is rather stupid and forced. The only thing I enjoyed was Kevin Spacey and the gosh-darn magnificent cutscenes.
Looking back at what Underwood was planning to do after his stint at the White House in House of Cards, this seems to be the closest we can get to a continuation from Season 5. Underwood was looking beyond politics at that point, and was looking to shift his focus into the private sector in an attempt to control Claire and the White House. Definitely a better alternative than the mildly interesting Season 6 they gave us. I was only there for Stamper lol
This is my favorite kind of villain. Even though you know he's evil, you also realize that he's not exactly wrong. It's what drew me (and many like me) to Heath Ledger's Joker
How to take over the world: Step 1. Come in as their saviors. Step 2. Give them security and protection. Step 3. Work with the people and allow them to choose their own government, whatever it might be. Step 4. Once you have supported them enough establish a permanent connection so that they will be your allies and provide resources. Step 5. Enjoy the power.
The jump from Ghosts to Advanced Warfare in graphics is mesmerizing. I seriously wouldn’t believe these two games came out in the same decade if I wasn’t a fan of the franchise.
He lacks the spiritual virtues of the Christian faith, the pragmatism of a true Machiavellian, and the nuances of a great charecter, but he had some solid points. 7/10 libertarians
I always wondered. How did Irons find out about Ilona, Gideon, and Mitchell watching the recording when Ilona had a scrambler? Did the scrambler not actually work like it was supposed to?
Hes in control of everything including his own skeletons. You think he will relinquish power to a simple scrambler meeting by his own cooperation on an action he did? He's maintained powers , monitoring, and was actually the definition of a real man in charge who knew everything that was going on in his company every step of the way which is why ATLAS was so successful due to good management.
Irons: No one can know I let those power plants explode! Gideon: Why not?! Irons: Because I’m about to tell them myself and you’d only ruin the surprise!
Brother is too damn on point about everything to be a villain His scene saying that "dying for what you believe aint worth it" reminds me of the scene from Chernobyl when the head of the KGB locks lagasoc in a room and tells him "WHEN THE BULLET HITS YOUR SKULL, DOES OT REALLY MATTER WHY??"
