as crazy as pitch 2 is, it honestly sounds like the most entertaining of the failed pitches and I sorta hope it gets brought back and reworked in some way. not sure how I feel about the humans being included in it, though. as funny as it would be to see nic cage fight alongside spongebob, i feel like that’s just overkill when put alongside the alien cat/dolphin/snails-

I feel the biggest issue with the Cat pitch is its overcomplication. When you think about it the idea of Cats against sea life just writes itself: Maybe you coild have simply have it them going through planetd because they wanna eat all the sea life cause the whole "cats like sea food" steriotype rather than go with all the political stuff or Gary being the chosen one.

In retrospect, considering most Gary episodes aren’t too great, theming Sponge on the Run around Gary (despite being based off of his best episode by far) kinda made it doomed from the start. And yes, the whole adopted from the pound thing *was* retconned by Kamp Koral; there truly was nothing sacred

As interesting as the alien cat pitch was I think there was too much going on, a spongebob arc/Gary backstory/human involvement seems more like three different plots were put together. Respect to the storyboard artists for wanting to try something new but I can see why that plot was scrapped

Once again, Nicktendo has knocked it out of the ballpark again. There are lots of live action movie retrospective people like Oliver Harper who dig deep into their respective movies, and I feel like you are one of the animation equivalents. I feel like without you, stuff like the making of the last 2 Spongebob movies wouldn't have a well organized video explaining it all. We'd have to sleuth it all ourselves via the Spongebob wiki. A correction that I don't wanna ignore, as an animation student who's taken a preproduction management class and done their own research into how concept art works @ 1:54 The more 3D-esque image seems to just be the artist having a stronger skillset of making their concept art 3D compared to the more 2D digital painting, especially after scrolling through their artstation page (Jared Krichevsky) The 2D artist who drew a similar sequence seemed to be just doing a digital painting with the approach being intended for 3D/CG, especially when comparing Sponge Out Of Water's concept art, looks very similar to the concept art of the characters in the real world and not when they're only in Bikini Bottom/across time and space. I think it's safe to assume Spongebob 3 would've always been 3D/CG...or maybe just like Klaus??? But again, good as heck video (I wonder what we'll see in the future of this channel?)

I actually really like the ideas behind the cat aliens version of the story, minus the real life celebrities, politics, and slightly contrived "Garry is an alien prince from another planet that was destroyed" thing. I wouldn't have minded if they maybe worked on that pitch and shaved it down to something simpler that still had Spongebob dealing with his nature as a pushover and the callbacks to earlier plot points and everything. That, and the it's a wonderful life tribute/parody seemed like they could have made for some really entertaining spongebob films, as apposed to what we ended up with.

ATTENTION Around the 41:18 mark in Garfield: A Tail of Two Kittes, Garfield DOES say that he hates Mondays... BUT only in the DVD-exclusive extended edition. The theatrical cut (as seen on HBO and other digital platforms) does NOT have Garfield mentioning Mondays

These would’ve been great and much better than what we got, the alien cat one would’ve been awesome. Also, the Sponge on the Run Novelization which came out back in 2020 right when covid hit and the movie was delayed was based on an earlier script of the movie and followed the format of starting the movie at Camp Coral and also referenced the “Things Go Better with Friends” song. The scene of SpongeBob and Patrick dressing up was also described in that book. Also, the ending is completely different from the final movie and SpongeBob and the gang escape Poseidon and there’s no resolution to his character like in the movie.

I absolutely adore content like this, cancelled/scrapped versions of movies, animatics, behind the scenes info, great job putting all the work into this! One day we’ll hopefully get more lost media from Spongebob found, including reels for this film like you mentioned. Just the other day a 20 year old Got Milk commercial featuring Spongebob and Patrick was found and you never know what could pop up!

I swear to god, we better get that goddamn space cat film one of these days, it’s something actually creative and interesting from the SpongeBob crew and it feels like a legitimate sequel to sponge out of water, and a very cool way to give Gary an origin story. Severely missed opportunity.

12:58 - 13:03 I'm pretty sure Garfield 2: A Tail of Two Kitties actually DID mention Monday at one point. Basically, in one scene, the animals at the castle need Garfield (who was unknowingly substituting for Prince and believed he's actual royalty) to come up with a plan to take out the duke (who's about to do anything to make sure Prince is dead in turn for him to inherit the will) before it's too late... but Garfield announces he takes the day off because it's Monday.

My problem with these pitches that I felt no one had a real strong premise and had to overcompensate constantly, lol. That second pitch was just ideas upon of ideas. I fail to see how that would make for a great movie If anything, I would've used the first one as the basis and took elements from the second pitch, such as Spongebob's character arc. Maybe even make these Atlanteans as the aliens that crash landed into Bikini Bottom and they need to used special snail energy to leave. It still has that wackiness from the second concept, but it's not to the point of being pure nonsense lol
